Fruit Wash

Happy Days are here again with all of the fruit fruit in season. What do you use to wash your fruit with. Last year I bought some of the fruit wash in the stores they were promoting. I read somewhere to use hydrogen peroxide as a wash. Do you think you would need to dilute it somewhat? Spray it on or soak the fruit in it? And then rinse with tap water.

A lady in the grocery store told me once to put a little vinegar in the water. She said she got it from Heloise. That's what I do with all my veggies and fruits.

Ann Gittleman from Fat Flush Plan suggests a Clorox (not the generic or store bought), 1 teaspoon for a gallon. Soak fruits and veggies in up to 30 minutes. I haven't tried it, though.Annette

BioKleen makes a great produce wash with grapefuit see and lime peel.
You can find it at Trader's Joe, Whole Foods or you local co-op.
I am finding I like it better than bleach or hydrogen peroxide.

I second the vinegar and water mixture. I always soak my fruit and veggies in a vinegar/water solution for 20 minutes before using them or preparing them for the week. The vinegar pulls any chemicals off of the produce and vinegar is a strong antiseptic so it will kill any bacteria that may be lurking around. The added benefit of using vinegar is that it is very inexpensive AND it won't harm you if you don't get it completely rinsed off of the produce.
