Frozen nuts

August

Sooo freezing raw almonds will keep them for a year.

What happens to them after a year? Are they then bad for you? Have they lost all their nutrients and good stuff? They should be dumped?

Ok, my dirty mind was at work with the title:rolleyes: I was thinking....it's not winter YET!

When I was freezer shopping, Sears salesmen told me that I shouldn't keep anything longer than a year in a freezer you need to defrost(the kind that develops frost on the sides), and 6 months in a frost free fridge.

I think it has to do with the taste and freshness of the food.
My mother grew up during the depression so she refused to throw food out. She just couldn't do it. Well, none of us would eat anything out of her freezer because it was so old, it tasted BAD!

Thanks for the answers.

Hmm. These ol' almonds don't taste bad at all. I wonder if that means they're just old but all right, or if I just have a bad palate. LOL.

I freeze my sliced almonds, walnuts, coffee, brown rice, and whole wheat flour. I don't remember why. I think I saw it on the Food Network somewhere. I usually end up eating it all before a year though.

When we were cleaning out my husbands' grandma's freezer my father in law insisted that I take her frozen pecans. Trust me if they are to old to eat you will be able to tell. If you have ever had a bad nut you will know;)
