FreeStyle Training Question

Cathlete
For those of you who do Freestyle training, how do you incorperate
workouts like Cardio and weights, Bootcamp, and HSTA in to your rotation?

Thanks,
Elaine:)

Hi Elaine...

I am just bumping this up for you.
Although I do freestyle training, the only DVD I have of cathe's at this time is HASTA, but I haven't used it yet.....
but Beverly/run4run probably has used all of them in her rotation.
The only ones I ever used in my rotation were legs&glutes, power hour, pyramids, MIS, Pure Strength.....

I don't do the freestyle training but know what it is. I used to train like this with the thought in mind that men who do heavy labor everyday seem to have a lot of muscle, so why wouldn't it work in training. I would think you could do the premix cardio and lower on HSTA or just the lower, lower premix only from bootcamp or do this with the cardio, as for Cardio & Weights I would use it for an upper body day. Maybe someone who does it can help.

I use these circuit style workouts as my cardio workouts. I can do strength training the following day. For the weight work in the circuits, I don't go as heavy as I usually go for strength training. For example, I do about 40 lbs for the squats in gauntlet and Step, Jump and Pump but go up heavier if I am only doing weight work, and much heavier if I am doing a Slow and Heavy Workout.

Hi Elaine,

I count HSTA as doing legs for that day and also getting upper body. It is nice to add on abs to this and a short run if you want some extra cardio for that day. Bootcamp can be counted as a leg day too, but you may want to add on the floor work from L&G, PS L&A or, PLB. I would do one of these workouts in a week. Either HSTA or Bootcamp.

Cardio and Weights is more upper body. I like to use the upper body premix from this.

A great premix for freestyle training is the KPC and L&G 82 min premix. It is great. All the premixes on this DVD are great!

I hope I helped a little.

Thanks for all your answers. One more question.

Beverly,

When you use a workout like CW,Hsta and BC do you seperate out the weight portion? For example: do you do the weight protion first then do the cardio? Or do you do them the way they were made?

I am really interested in training like this but I only own one DVD (HSTA) and the rest of my workouts are vhs. I have done some of the KPC and L&G Premixes by switching my tapes in and out. A little time consuming but worth the effort.

Thanks,

Elaine:)

Elaine,

HSTA and BC I would do as is, but I only did one of them once a week. With C&W I usually just did the weight and ab portion and a run. The cardio in that one does not do much for me. It is fun, but I'd rather do a run, but I love the upper body and abs in C&W.

It was a lot of trial and error with me getting in all the leg work, but I really get positive changes and results.

Have you got a rotation figured out? I'd love to see it.

Beverly

I did FreeStyle for about 2 months, and loved the results, then quit. WHY???? I don't know. Anywho, I just finished a month of Cathe's August 2004 rotation(I missed 2 workouts), and I weighed and measured this morning. I lost 3/4" everywhere in my body, except my stomach, I lost 1". I am never giving this up again!!! I did legs 3-4 times a week. I consider kickboxing a leg workout, so I would do KPC every week. The days I devoted to UB, I would do a hill walk on my treadmill for a 1/2 an hour to get my butt and hips. I am REALLY happy with my results. I also lost 5.5 lbs. coounting my Points while doing this.

Hi Beverly,

The rotation I came up with is a version of the one you posted last week. I have been doing legs about twice a week, so I think I better start slow so I don't get burned out. I don't run or own a treadmill. I usually do Cathe step or Kickbox. I also have a time constraint to about 60-75 min. 75 is the max. The little people in my house need attention.

Here is what I came up with. Tell me what you think.

Monday: PLB up, Abs, All Step

Tuesday: PLB Floor work, PUB up including abs. & Step Intervals

Wednesday:L&G/KPC Standing premix (I think it is number 14 on the premixes)

Thursday:L&G Floor work, Abs, part of Rythmic Step (depending on how much time I have)

Friday: I was thinking HSTA plus Abs

Saturday: Maybe CTX upper body and a nice stretch.

I don't always get to work out on Sat. So I didn't want to count on this day for a leg routine.
Well that is it. What do you think?

Lori,

Hi! Good job on your success this month!!! That is great.. Yes, I believe freestyle is definetely the way to go if you are pear shaped..

Beverly

Beverly- The funny thing is, I am not pear-shaped, and I really am not an apple-shaped either. I can gain weight from the trop of my head, to the tips of my toes. I do tend to gain it most in my waist, hips, and thighs, but I am kinda square. That sounds horrid!!!! Cedie, that is me. I am so shaped like her!!!!

It sounds like you have the same body type I do. Do you gain weight mostly on your inner thigh vs. your outer thigh? I think i look more like Cedie, too. I think Cedie is an apple shape. Am I wrong?

Namita

No, I think you are probably right. The only thing that deters me from saying I am an apple shape is I do not have thin legs and arms. But, I do tend to gain square in the middle, and my waist is thicker.
