Foxy Fusionistas in September!

Hi!! :)

I went to Crossfit on Monday and Tuesday. Monday we ran 300 meters, did a variety of stretches, a clean/squat/jerk as our skill, front squats (my 3 rep max was 85#) and the WOD, which consisted of 2 rounds of the following: 25 deadlifts (85# bar), 30 pullups (band assisted, of course), and 200 jump ropes. Overall, a good class. Tuesday wasn't that great for me. We ran 400 meters, stretched, and then did a "snatch" which basically consists of cleaning up the bar, and pushing it straight up over your head while you squat low. Let's just say I fell on my azz, and embarrased the crap out of myself.:mad::mad: Anyway, the WOD yesterday consisted of 5 rounds. Each round was 3 minutes long (1 minute break in between) and you did as many sets of the following as you could during that 3 minutes: 3 overhead squats, 6 box jumps (20 inch box), and 9 situps. I could usually get 3 sets done per round. I HATED the overhead squats. HATED them. I could barely use any weight (I think I did 25# and it was too much for me). Anyway, I was so upset with myself for crappy performance at Crossfit that after class I ran 1 mile, did the 72 push-up drop set from Gym Styles, and did 4, 1 minute side planks.

This morning I decided I needed a Cathe day, so I did HiiT Pyramid, 2 side planks (1 minute each), XTrain Shoulders (just 6 exercises - leaning lateral raises, overhead press, shoulder circles, rear delt drop sets with a really light weight, double arm upright row, and W press), and 4 rounds of XTrain Bis and Tris. Feeling much better now. :D

Wendy: How are you feeling?!?! Better, I hope. Germs really need to stay out of your way for awhile. You've had your fair share already this fall! ;) I LOL at your "last minute" workout because it still sounds so intense. Nice job getting it done! I also noticed you worked out this morning. Still going to the gym with your hubby this evening??

Wiggie: Nice job with JNL's Lean Legs!! Making it harder - spoken like a true Cathlete! ;) I'm determined to get better at jumping rope, so i'm definitely going to check out ZRopes!! Jumping rope is hard. :D :D I'm glad you found a way to use your new "toy". :p Crossfit went...okay. I thought about quitting after yesterday's debacle, but my sister talked me into finishing out the month. I enjoy some workouts more than others. We'll see!

Hello Ladies!!

I had a soccer game Tuesday so all I did when I got home at 930 was my 100 squats. Wednesday's workout was JNL's Shoulder Shredder, I made it longer by jumping rope for the cardio(1 min intervals instead of 30 sec) & I added more upper body moves. After that I did my 100 squats.

Katie: I am so sorry about the crossfit incident, & very glad you didn't get hurt. Don't feel bad, I'm sure you're not the only one that's happened to. I don't think I could handle CrossFit at all, in my humble opinion, you rock!!:D

Wendy: How are you feeling, I hope this isn't a relapse!!:( Did you & DH make it to the gym? As usual very impressed with the workouts you come up with Ms Personal Trainer!!;)

3 x thru circuit 1:

10 split stance chop w/squat R then L
10 ips meat slicers R then L

and then

3x thru circuit 2:
10 Box push up (alternating sides)
10 Squat curl
10 Barbell row (alternating grips)
10 Squat press

Hi girls!!

I haven't actually worked out (yet) today, but I still wanted to pop in and say hello. I'm going to try Crossfit again today. I think my sister ratted me out to the instructor (just that I was embarrassed and upset after Tuesday's disaster), because the instructor texted me last night with several encouraging words, thoughts, and comments. I'll let you know how it goes!

Wiggie: I love soccer!! I played soccer when I was in elementary school (4 times State Champs :D) and in high school (we stunk). :p Are you playing with a work league or local league? How fun!! I'm impressed you did your squats after the game. I know how tiring a game of soccer can be. Thanks for your encouraging words re: Crossfit. I think it's just taking me out of my comfort zone, which I know is really a good thing. I'm just being a big baby about the whole thing. :p;)

Wendy: Great job this morning with your workout!! It looks like you're on the mend. YAY!! Being sick is no fun at all!

Hola Chicas bonitas!!;)

Thursday's workout was Limitless Legs from the Kettlebell Kickboxing Body Series. This is the preorder I told you about in August. I did the beginners workout first since I'm not that familiar with kettlebells. Turns out I was doing my swings incorrectly, I was doing more of a squat. Speaking of squats I did my 100 squats for my challenge.

Katie: I don't play soccer, though I would love to learn. Soccer players are such great athletes, they run up & down that field countless times like it's nothing. So you've always been an athlete, I am very impressed. I was working at the soccer game, Ems stands by at most of the games at the local high schools & colleges. I think it was very nice of the instructor to text you.:)

Hi Wendy!

Have a great weekend Ladies!!

Hey Ladies. :)

I must apologize for my lack of personals as of late. :( Sometimes it was a lack of time...sometimes it was a lack of brain power...and sometimes it was just pure laziness....

So I bombarded my post-race cold with 2000 mgs of vitamin C per day and I was pretty much all better w/in 3 days flat! WOOT! Love my C. It works every time!;) I had run out a while prior to getting sick the FIRST time and had never bought more. I bet if I had kept up with it, at the very least, that first ailment would not have been nearly as bad if it happened at all!

This morning's work out was a short one but I am planning to work out at the studio later as well so I'm considering this my warm up! ;)

6 @ 20/30 x 2 of....
Split Stance Squat R
1 Arm Swing R
Split Stance Squat L
1 Arm Swing L
Floor Bridge
Double Arm Swing

Katie:: You are doing some great work outs! Don't let the Crossfit mishap deter you! Get up, brush yourself off and keep going! You know you want to! ITA that it was very nice of the trainer to reach out to you after that. :) So my boss at the studio just threw me for a loop by posting a blog entry stating that he isn't anti-crossfit!!! WHAT? Totally confused. LOL Apparently he doesn't hate Crossfit. He just doesn't agree with some of what they do I guess...I copied and pasted his article if you feel like reading it...

I'm Not Anti-Crossfit

Seriously, I’m not.

It’s more that I am in favor of other things:

1. I am in favor of having a systematic plan and program to follow.

I’ve yet to meet anyone anywhere who disagrees with me on this point. If you do, please stand up. It’s pretty much universally agreed that having a goal, then setting a plan and program to go about getting it is superior to just winging it with a mixed bag of exercises. Performing indiscriminate workouts is unlikely to get you to your goal. Randomness and varied "workouts of the day" with mixed training modalities is NOT the best way to get a lean, strong physique.

2. I am in favor of focusing on the quality of work instead of the quantity.

Again I’ve yet to meet anyone who disagrees with me on this. If you know me you probably know I live with a high school math teacher. I usually use her situation to make an analogy here:

If she had a student who bragged about doing 72 algebra problems in under 3 minutes, we all would probably have the same reaction: there’s a pretty good chance a lot of those problems were done incorrectly, meaning the student probably wasted his/her time. The reason the student would do that is certainly ego driven in some way as we all know doing math in that manner certainly won’t make he or she better at math. Should the student try to move on to trigonometry there surely will be a problem and he or she would probably fail that class, assuming he or she passed algebra in the first place.

The same rationale holds true for exercise: doing 264 barbell snatches and 82 pullups in a short period of time only assures you’re doing some pretty crappy snatches and pullups. You’re certainly not going to get stronger, and you certainly will never be able to move on to more advanced stuff. If you try to progress, you'll probably fail just like the dunce in the aforementioned math class. Except in this case it’s more likely you’ll be injured. Performing workouts and exercises while focusing on quality of movement and exercise is what yields progress.

I’m not anti “crossfit”. I’m anti random workouts like “workout of the day!”, and I’m anti picking an arbitrary number to measure success as opposed to exercise quality.

Having a plan and a program is better than doing random workouts.

Doing high quality work is better than doing high quantity work.

If you need help with those two things, you know where to find us.

PS - the part where he talks about doing random work outs...um yeah....that's me!

Wiggie:: Congrats on the 100 squats! What about doing 100 swings?? ;) Nope, no gym for DH and I this week. He decided to put it on hold b/c he has no time right now. Once football season is over for my DS we are supposed to start going. We'll see about that!

Hi ladies!

Well, Crosffit went MUCH better yesterday. Here's a general breakdown of the workout:

Warm-up:

100 jumping jacks
A bunch of stretches

Skill:

20 back squats (I used 55 pounds, probably should have gone a wee bit heavier)
3 rounds of the following (do all three exercises, then repeat two more times):
- 30 supermans
- 10 situps
- 10 toes to bar (I just did captain chair type leg lifts...if that makes sense)

WOD: (1 time through)
- 500 meter row
- 300 jumping jacks
- 75 hand release pushups
- 50 kettlebell swings (20# KB)
- 25 wall balls (12# ball)

I'm running a charity 3K tonight to raise money for new playground equipment at my nephew's school. I'm actually kinda nervous, lol! My running has been awful lately. Luckily it isn't near as hot today (only around 70) so maybe that will make the run a little more enjoyable.

I'm off to a job interview. BBL for personals! :) :) :)

Hey Ladies.

Leaving for work in 5 (group session at 9), then a short meeting with my boss and then off to do some running in the park with my old running buddy. I just am too tired to drag weights with me today....

The boys are at an early football practice and then they are going to Great Adventure. I've opted out and will stay home and get things done around the house, nap, food shop, nap....get the picture here? :p

Hope everyone has a nice Saturday! BBL!

Friday's workout was Fire 45, Saturday's was System of Sleek Pro workout(45 min) & Sunday's was Kettlebell Kickboxing(KBKB) Perfect Butt, then later 100 swings(per Wendy) & 100 pushups. DGD & I went to my aunt's house for a cookout Saturday. The weather was beautiful, we really had a good time.

Katie: Good job with CrossFit!:) How did the run go?

Wendy: How did your group session & meeting go? Did you get your errands done or did you mostly nap?:p Your version of CrossFit looks pretty intense!!:D How was the park run? Glad you're feeling better.:)

Hi!!

My car is in the shop, so I took the day off. It's nice to have a quiet day at home. Saturday was my rest day, Sunday I did Combat 60 + 4 side planks (75 secs each), and today I did Butts and Guts. I somehow got talked into doing another 5K mud run and it's THIS Saturday. What the heck was I thinking? ;)

Wendy: I agree with many things in your boss's Crossfit article. I often see other participants using less-than-perfect form and it annoys me. Plus the randomness of each workout is challenging, which is why I refuse to go more than 3x per week. Great job with your weekend workouts! BTW - I love your Spartan Race pictures!! You're such a warrior!

Wiggle: Love your recent workout picks!! All goodies. :) And all those pushups. :D It was a gorgeous weekend for a cookout. glad you had a great time! The 3K run went well! I ran it in 17.21 minutes, which made me happy. I'm usually a solid 10 minute mile gal. :)

Good morning!!

Monday's workout was approx. 10 minutes of jump rope, JNL's 10 minute Total Body & 100 swings followed by more Jump rope. It ended up being a 30 minute workout.

Katie: Good job with Combat & those planks! 17:21 is awesome & You have another race? Good luck, with all this activity I know you're looking really buff!!:) Sorry about your car, :( hope it's nothing serious.

Hi Wendy!

Hello! :)

No workout for me...yet. I'm going to Crossfit after work, provided I can walk. My lower body is soooo sore from B&G yesterday. I love it!! :D :D :D

Also, I discovered my next 5K mud run isn't until next Saturday (9/28). I thought it was this Saturday. I'm secretly glad i've got another week to train.

Wiggie: All that jumping rope. Yowza! It's so much harder than I thought it would be. You packed a lot into 30 minutes. WTG!!!! I've been really "in" to 30/45 minute workouts lately. The car was just general maintenance. It's starting to get up there in miles (150,000+) but I really want to keep it running as long as possible. I WISH I was looking buff, lol! :p I'm hoping all this running will provoke a few changes in my body soon. It can only help, right? ;)

Hi Ladies. :)

Y'day was a rest day and today was TF Fire 30. :)

Tmrw will likely be a f/b weight circuit and a short conditioning segment if there is time...

As of today I am putting more cardio into my routine. The scale won't move no matter what I've done lately! The only thing I haven't tried is upping the cardio so that's my next move. It's worked before so hopefully it works again! That being said, there will be lots more where that Turbo Fire work out came from! ;) SHHHH - Keep it under wraps though - if my boss and the clients at the studio find out, I will never hear the end of it! :p I even made it so they can't view my FB work out posts unless it's a "studio-approved" work out! LOL

Wiggie:: Awesome job - 100 swings AND 100 push ups! WOW! You rock, chic!:D The run in the park was tough. I'm not gonna lie. I haven't run in ages so it was a slow one for me and I felt every stride! Gonna try to keep it up though, once a week at the park, as long as the weather permits it, or as long as I can stand it-the weather that is! :p Improving my running will help to improve my Spartan times - hoping that's motivation enough to keep me going for a while!

Katie:: I can't wait to hear about your 5k obstacle course race once you've done it! OMG - Crossfit post-B&G!? Are you freakin' INSANE!?!?:eek::eek: Obviously you are! :p Hope you enjoyed your day off. I was quite jealous! Would've loved to sleep in (even more then I already did!) and stay home y'day! So I gotta wonder...are Crossfit work outs TRULY random or is there a "method to the madness" that we just don't know about?? I think you should find out! ;)

BBL!

Good morning!!

I had a nice Crossfit workout yesterday. We did the following:

400 meter run + stretches
Deadlifts - 3 sets, 5 reps each, 115 pounds
Handstand hold - I lasted 1:20 before my arms started to tingle. :D
WOD: We did the following for time (it took me approx. 8 minutes):
- 21 reps of each exercise
*burpee box jumps (20 inch box)
*kettlebell swings (25#)
- 16 reps of each exercise (same as above)
- 9 reps of each exercise (same as above)

After Crossfit I went on a 1.5 mile run/walk with my dog (ran 1.25 and walked the last .25 as my cooldown).

Wendy: Great job with TF! IKWYM re: needing cardio to move the scale. Whenever I cut back on cardio my body (and the scale) rebels. I'll make sure to keep it quiet that you are doing extra cardio. ;) Hmmm, I do feel like many of the Crossfit workouts are just random. I haven't noticed a pattern yet. They do try to hit the major lift moves at least once a week (clean, jerk, snatch, squat, deadlift, .... i'm sure there are others). The workouts also vary in intensity (yesterday wasn't that hard, which is why I added on the run) and there is a little too much standing around for me. I don't know if i'll stick with it forever.

Wendy: What type/brand gloves did you wear during your Spartan Race? I'm thinking about wearing gloves during my upcoming 5K mud run. I struggled a few times during the Warrior Dash to maintain my grip because my hands were so wet and muddy. I thought gloves might help this time around.

Good Morning.

This morning I did a sandbag circuit...

21@20/35...
Clean and Squat
Uneven Push Up
Shoulder Squat
Bent Over Row
Shoulder Squat
Rotational Lunge
Overhead Press

BBL for personals!

Good morning.

This morning's scheduled workout was Drill Max: Cardio and Upper Body premix. I did about 2/3 of the workout before I rolled my ankle hard.:mad::mad: Not cool, ankle, not cool. It's still hurting and very tender. I iced it for about 10 minutes this morning and i'm going to ice it again now that i'm at work. Tomorrow is my rest day so hopefully it will be better by this weekend. I've been trying so hard NOT to get hurt lately and look what happens.:confused::rolleyes: Can you tell i'm a wee bit bitchy this morning? :p

Wendy: Nice sandbag circuit, girlie! Explain your 21@20/35 to me again? If you don't mind. :) I realize I should know this by now, but my brain is on vacation. :p

Hi Ladies. :)

So I am working at the studio tonight - group training session - and tmrw after work I will probably go there to work out on my own since the work outs are new as of this past Monday! :) Right now, Fridays are a great evening for me to get there b/c DS is at football practice and DH is at bowling. Saturday I am working another group session and then hitting the park with my friend for another run. I would love to be able to try out my new kicks but I doubt that they will arrive in time. Oh booh. :( Not much else goin' on really...

Katie:: Filled with questions lately I see! :)

21=21 rounds
@= at
20= rest period in seconds
35= work period in seconds
So given that there were 7 exercises in the work outs I did the circuit 3x through and it was killer! I got the idea from a work out posted online but then tweaked it slightly. This is a link to the original work out I found....

In the Bag: Sandbag Training - Reps

And as for the gloves I used for my last Spartan? Just the oldest pair of weight lifting gloves I had on hand coz they went right in the garbage when I was done! :p
So very sorry about your ankle! :( RICE RICE RICE! I hope it feels better soon!
So are the CF workouts you've been doing something you'd feel comfortable doing on your own at home when the mood struck if you aren't looking to pay for a CF membership long term??

Hi Wiggie! :)

PS - I joined ZGym today. I couldn't resist any longer! :)

Yeah, it was not my intention but I started the video over again by accident when I was about 2 mins away from finishing so I took my lumps and it did it all over again!
