what does a typical day look like for you and how many cals are you taking in? i do so much better eating 3 meals a day vs. 4-6 simply because i try to keep my cals at 1500 and when i do mini meals/snacks i always end up over b/c i'm unsatisfied eating so little per meal

I eat a lot of egg whites when I'm trying to lose. This sample is equal to about 1200-1300 calories.

Breakfast (one of the following):

5 egg whites omelet w/salsa
oatmeal
3 egg white fried with Pam on one slice of toast

Lunch:

Grilled Chicken breast + some fruit or veggies

(DH grills a whole week's worth at one time)

Dinner:

Turkey burger (no bun or very small bun)

OR

6 oz tuna salad.

I eat pretty much the same thing. Boring, but it works and not a whole of thinking required.

Thanks for the egg suggestion. I'm going to try this! I need to get more protein into my diet, and this seems like a great way to do it.

I do MUCH better with 3 meals a day, sometimes even 2 meals. I was never satisfied eating 6 times a day, and it was a pain in the neck to plan.

Calories count, no matter when you eat them, and I prefer to eat most of mine later in the day. The "experts" would say I'd gain weight, but I haven't, I've lost. Phooey on the experts, this is what works for me.

I'm eating about 1900 to maintain 133 lbs. Next week I'm going to go down to 1500 cals to drop a few more pounds, but this is a typical day where I save my calories for later in the day (btw, I'm a vegetarian):

"Breakfast" (I am rarely hungry for breakfast)
Coffee with milk
Fruit bowl (around 9-10 am)

Lunch
Bean & veggie soup
Dove Promises (1 or 2) I always have chocolate after lunch!!

Dinner
Cheese tortellini with marinara sauce and toasted pine nuts
Broccoli with a bit of butter
Wine

Dessert not every day though
Another Dove Promises, maybe 1/2 c. real ice cream

When I cycle or stagger the calories down, I eliminate the evening snack, and lighten up ever so slightly on the carbs... I am someone who needs brown complex carbs (rice, potatoes, yams, oats) otherwise I get grumpy.

ETA: Obviously I have more than three meals listed, I responded for two reasons, first - when I am less active or have an off day or two in a row, or traveling, I tend to eat only three meals. Second, to give you an idea that five or six meals can be actual meals - not just six snacks sized meals spread throughout the day.

HTH

thanks ladies. I have to stop thinking that we are all supposed to eat 5-6 meals a day. I just went to my food pyramid's website and it has me clocked in at needing 2200 cals per day to maintain! This seems high but then again i sometimes think i'm not eating nearly enough when trying to consume 1500cals. I'm 27, 5'3, and weigh about 120-122lbs. I workout 5-6 days per week from 60 to 90 minutes. So mabe i could eat a bit more and still stay lean. I'm also one who needs my carbs or i don't feel well at all. I've tried several times to eat low carb and all i want to do is sleep, i'm moody, and i just dream of eating a loaf of bread. LOL!
