Hello, a couple of months ago I posted a message explaing how I am very thin but have a lot of body fat and I can't do cardio because I get skinnier, and I want to build my legs and arms up some ect.....
I got a lot of feedback and ideas, thank all of you, there were a few messages suggesting that I get checked for diabetes and stuff.well...I'm healthy,I just eat more sugar and fat than what I thought.I want to know if anyone has ever tried fatburners?I'm looking at hydroxycut,it's suppose to burn fat and not burn muscle tissue....since I'm small and don't want to burn muscle and too much cardio makes me too skinny I thought this might work...does anyone know anything about it? I search for stuff on the web but of coarse the promotors say it's wonderful and safe as long as you follow the instruction,it contains ephedra and something else..muhaung..I think...
well...just let me know! thanks:)

Hi, Cin, I have not tried fat burners and I hope you won't mind if I pop in to say you shouldn't either. There's no magic bullet when it comes to fitness and some of the supplements can be dangerous. They increase your blood pressure and make you jittery and that's not the way to live life.

I am 5', 7" and wiegh 125, my arms and legs are slim, my face is narrow and I have no butt, but I have what I call the "slab of flab" om my ab area, which is where my fat is. When I drop weight I lose it from all the places I don't want it to leave first. That isn't to say that I am not still trying to lose that belly fat, I am always trying. I am focusing on weight training. I also do cardio 4-5 times per week.

You might focus on strength work to gain lean body mass. You sound like a perfect candidate for Body For Life which requires only 3 20 minute cardio sessions per week.

But the bottom line is you know what you need to do to get fit. It isn't a pill that'll do the trick and you may have to live with the fact that you carry a little body fat if your body doesn't want to yield it's fat stores. Love your body. Bodies are amazing. It's just unfortunate that we get bombarded with images of women who are 25% smaller and 3 inches taller than the average woman and that we are told that that's what beautiful is. Liars! Clean up your diet, work out and know that you are a beautiful strong woman whether you carry a little extra body fat or not.

Hi Cin! Hydroxycut is very bad for you. For that matter all fatburners are bad for you. Yes, they'll do the job by cutting the body fat but you can only stay on them for 2 weeks at a time and then you need to go off them for one week. If you stop taking them altogether, the weight will creep back on and you haven't learned a thing. Please do yourself a really big favor and DON'T TAKE THEM! I just finished reading a wonderful book titled "Eat Right Play Hard" by Liz Applegate. She states everything you want to know about proper nutrition and what to eat before, during or after exercising. Check it out at your local library or purchase it. It's worth it. Also check out the thread we had a couple of days ago called "What do you eat?" by saralh. Quite informative and a lot of good ideas were in there about what we all eat. This will give you an insight as to what you should be eating each day. Good luck! Kathy

Hi Bobbi, thanks for your input, sounds like you are a lot like me!do you find that doing that much cardio keeps you from gaining muscle? I have the p.s. series and s/h although I have only done that one once!but thank you again for your opinion,I do have to clean up my diet, thought I did real good til I started writing it down!

KathyH,Hi! thanks for the book title,I will definately purchase it,it is a way of life...not a diet, sometimes you get fed up and want "quick fixes",everytime I thought about hydroxycut little red flags went up in the back of my head warning me..but I wanted to get an opinion from someone on the outside...you know what I mean?not a seller a gnc or the makers of hydroxycut! I really don't understand fatburners......how they work and all.but anyway...I will steer clear of them,I love the ideas and help and this site!

Hi, Cin,

Yes, I have a hard time gaining muscle. I am an ectomorph. I have been running for about 8 years. It was actually the first time I ever had any leg muscles! My legs used to be so skinny! I have been training very faithfully and I am getting little "cuts"! I'll never have big muscles but I am looking pretty toned. It's slow going but I am delighted. Next week I am doing Slow and Heavy one body part per week. I love cardio though and do as much as possible:)

I ordered Liz Applesgate's book yesterday. The diet is key. I have been a little obsessive about mine lately. All in all, I look pretty good. No one can see my belly under my clothes after all. The term "skinny fat" certainly applies to me and it ain't pretty, LOL! I know I tend to feel quite a bit fatter than I am. I never stop trying to get rid of that belly! I am just trying to pump iron, run and have fun and, hopefully, the fat loss will follow!

Hydroxycut

Cin,

At the risk of beating a dead horse, I just wanted to point out the dangers of Hydroxycut & similar Ephedra/caffeine products. The Canadian government has banned their sale. Because it's an "herbal" product, the U.S. has not acted. It has been linked to many health problems & deaths. The NFL & Northwestern football players that died last year were users of ephedra/caffeine products.

Please don't risk your health in a quest for a certain physical look.
