Hi Cathe!
I started running three and half years ago and have run several half-marathons since, but am ready to kick things up a few notches and work on getting faster and building more endurance (I've noticed that I ALWAYS seem to lose steam in the last 3 miles, and this year I'd like to do my first full marathon, so I need to get that endurance up!
). I've read (and please correct this if it's wrong!) that if these are my goals, then I should focus my strength training on more endurance-based workouts, rather than the pure strength-building workouts.
I've been doing 4DS since it came out and have LOVED it, and I've made good strength gains for what seems like the first time in years (I started strength training about 7 years ago, so it's nice to be making progress again
). I want to keep going with those strength gains, but know that if I truly want to improve my running speed and endurance, I'm going to have to shift my focus slightly. Is it possible to do an endurance-based strength rotation that will increase my endurance and agility, but will also allow me to still make strength gains, even if they're smaller strength gains than I was getting with 4DS? Or even just maintaining the strength gains I've made since I started 4DS would be good too... I guess my fear is just that I'll lose the gains I've made (hopefully that's not the case!).
I was thinking of maybe doing PUB/PLB for the next 6-8 weeks to work on my endurance a bit more, but because of the pace, I may be able to still work on increasing my weights as well while I work on endurance? Does that sound like a good plan, or would you recommend something else?
Thanks in advance, Cathe, and Happy New Year (almost
)!!
