Flooring

Cathe,

What is the best manufacturer and type of flooring to do your DVD's on: specifically, your Cardio Fusion and other step/combo programs that I do 5 -6 days per week. I want a shock-absorbing floor and am building an aeorbics studio just for this. What do you recommend? I love your DVDS, have so much respect for you and the way in which you work out safely and smartly. I am 42, very active, have exercised for the past 20 years, and want to be able to exercise for the rest of my life. Thus, I am willing to put the very best floor in place for my aerobic-type activities.

I am currently looking at a product that says it absorbs up to 33% of shock/impact. It is a 3/8" vinyl type product.

What do you recommend?

pavi tile

Several Cathe fans have recently purchased Pavi tiles from Kiefer flooring...myself included and I really like it. I have it over puzzle mats I already had and this is MUCH more resilient and sturdy, the pieces do not pull apart and they are not slippery (a few moves however I do use my yoga mat for extra stability, such as side planks). I don't know anything about the other mat...but I know that this company was very fast with shipping and customer service...and the price wasn't bad, they WERE giving a discount to Cathe fans...not sure if they still are. Let me know if you want a link, I believe the salesman was Kevin Walsh (I think!) at kiefer floors. Even my DH likes this floor MUCH better for me and noted immediately how safe and durable it was! At least he cares :)

*I'm not new to Cathe.com or her video or DVDs but this is my first forum posting! This has been my favorite topic to read about in Cathe's forums because I too have problems with injuries and aches/pains from plyo and other high impact workouts....love em' and want to keep doing them!!!

Anyway, I've read about, researched and investigated pricing on many flooring options. I have been using the puzzle mats over cement basement sub floor and not getting much relief.

I looked at the "arobitile" and got a quote - ended up being more than the following website where I just ordered enough tiles for a 10x10 area: this website offers black tiles that seem to be identical to the arobitiles only ship/handling is cheaper and the black tiles are on sale and in stock for immediate order processing.

Check out: shopgreatmats.com - black "cushion" tiles are $2.89 per 12x12 tile - you'll need to request a price quote from their online customer service. You can also order edges and corners at an additional cost. I think these will be great for me because there is no installation other than laying them down, snapping them together and starting up my DVD player! They can be moved or expanded/reduced in size as they require no adhesion to the floor. They're made specifically for high impact studio workouts so am hoping they'll ease the pressure on my joints/tendons!! I'll let you know how I like them!

I have been using puzzle mats over carpet padding on a concrete floor for years. It has been good on my knees, but I can't do any turning movements because my feet "stick" to the mats and twist my knees. I finally got so frustrated that I am installing a floating floor from Stage Step (www.stagestep.com). I just received the blocks so it will be a while until I get the whole floor done. If I could I would get it done this weekend, but the windows and siding are being replaced as we speak and DH is doing all of the inside trim work and outside brickwork. I somehow have to convince him that my floor is more important than working on the rest of the house. While you all understand, he does not quite get it. Anyway I will let you know how it goes.

I'm also looking into buying a floor. I have been looking at both the Pavi tiles and the Aerobotiles and can't decide. Has anybody had the opportunity to try out both of these and can recommend one over the other.
