Flat stomach

My biggest problem is my lower stomach. I do cardio 6 days a week for 40 minutes (elliptical/step) and total body weights 3 days a week. But still I have my flabby stomach. What can I do?

I have the same problem too - no matter how much I exercise and diet, I have always had a pooch. I have had a pooch since I was a pre-teen. Very disappointing.

Some forum members maintain that it's mostly in the diet, with exercise of course, but others believe it to be part genetics, part diet/exercise. Some of us will always have a "problem" body part, no matter what we do.

Believe it or not, someone had posted about some strange technique of pinching your stomach to tighten up your loose skin. I thought it was a joke, but this poster said it worked. Isn't that strange?

Perhaps one of the educated crowd better at computer stuff than me could find the link.

Good Luck!

It's true.........diet, diet, diet. Whenever I gain weight I gain it first in my stomach. To keep my six pack I stay on a very strict (low carb) diet.

Diet diet diet for me too. Especially after I turned about 32. I could fake it quite a bit before then but not now. I think the hardest thing is finding what type of diet works best for each individual. There are so many good plans to choose from it can be overwhelming. Low carb has worked for me in the past but due to IBS had to quit years ago plus I had to workout twice as much as I do now. For me, I find BFL works great.

Before I had kids, all I had to do is go running regularly/swim laps/stairmaster/weights etc. I didn't do situps very often and my stomach looked great. When I had my first c-section, the dr kept exclaiming "great skin tone, great muscle tone!" I've had 3 kids (and c-sections). I can do situps all day but if I don't watch my diet SERIOUSLY my tummy bulges. Forget that 6 pack--unless I give up all junk food, refined carbs, etc. I succeed at it, but not year round. I love my workouts, no problem working out hard for me but clean eating is always a challenge. It's my challenge for the(each!) day, as Cathe says in her workouts! ;) /karen

Diet was always my problem too as I love doing ab work, but when I eat crappy it doesn't matter. It seems to be even harder after 40! I recently went vegetarian so I actually eat ALOT of carbs....but good ones. At the same time I started a P90X rotation. I lost the weight I needed to and then some (21lbs) and finally got the six-pack abs I was looking for...:)...Carole

Hi, I was just reading in my fitness magazine on ABS and this lady says and I will type it word for word....
Alot of women want abs that are visible and palpable, but that comes more from diet and cardio than simply exercising your abs.
To that end, try jumping rope for cardio.
I have found that it helps tighten my core in a way that other cardio doesn't.
Great abs aren't created soley by hard work; you must constantly alter your routine to keep the muscles stimulated.

This is from the new Muscle & Fitness HERS.... by a lady name Alicia starting on page 64..... Hope this helps....... Rhonda

For me -- low sugar, practically no starch and no alcohol at all (1 drink a month) and more then just 10 min abs at the end of the wo. I love to do just cardio on certain days and 30 min abs. I do have a very flat stomach after 2 kids and one was a c section.
