Flab Blaster checkin 1/7

Cathlete
Good Morning everyone- Lori H. welcome!
I did end up doing Super Body Sculpt yesterday w/my new risers (I think there are 8? I have to count) and heavied up on the upper body. Every time I do it I feel like I didn't workout but the next morning... ow. My glutes are sore!

Pinky, instead of KPC I think I may do Boot Camp since I haven't done that in a long time which will give me a little cardio and weights mixed together. Hope your son is feeling much better- believe me, I empathize!! By the way, you're a total savage w/the weights- Nice work:)

I tried a few dresses on yesterday to see what was in my wardrobe for my event coming up on the 17th- the one dress is strapless and looks good except for that little part of flesh that doesn't want to go away right before your armpit. I'm going to have to really work on chest to see if that will go away eventually. Know what I'm talking about? ugh.

Hope everyone has a great workout and great day- I'll check in later tonight if I get a minute.

Brenda

Hi everyone, as I said in yesterday's check-in, today will be KPC for me. I still have some chores to check off my list before I get to do it -- and I have to power up with some oatmeal and protein powder before I do the workout. I haven't tried it yet, but it looks fierce!}(

Brenda, I know what you mean. I once watched an episode of TLC's "What Not To Wear" when the much-feared, sassy Wayne Lucas (he could be more than sassy -- rude and inconsiderate would be a better description) was still one of the critics and designers. He called that body part "chicken cutlet", for cryin' out loud. Anyway, try doing more cardio, and if that doesn't help, let out your clothes at that area so it doesn't dig in and push out that part of flesh.

Am editing this post to welcome lorihart. Lorihart, I hope I don't confuse you with lorisax.:) We're not following any particular rotation, and feel free to post your rotations. Even though I plan my own workouts, I read the various rotations on this forum to give me ideas on how to vary my workouts. Checking in is very helpful to me, especially on days when all my motivation is gone.

Talk to you all later,
Pinky

eating before exercise

Pinky,

I hope you guys don't mind me sneaking in here. I had seen the various check-in threads before, but hadn't ever looked at any. They're a great idea, for motivation.

I have a question for you. You mentioned that you would have to "power up with oatmeal and protein powder" before the workout. How long do you wait after eating before you workout? I used to be able to get up at 5:30 and immediately start working out and eat afterwards, but since I've been doing Cathe's workouts almost exclusively, it seems like I need something in the morning before exercising. Depending on when I manage to drag myself out of bed, I have at most 30 minutes after having a bowl of cereal before I start the workout. Somedays, this morning included, I have as little as 10 minutes.

I read recently, in Shape I think, that the worst time to exercise is within one hour of eating. The reason they gave was that blood flow is diverted from the muscles during digestion, and that you may experience cramping. This has not been a problem for me. I feel like I'm in a catch-22, because if I don't eat first, I don't think I'll have the energy to exercise, but if I don't exercise in the morning it won't happen, and I just can't get up before 5, because then I won't get enough sleep. Anyway, I was curious how long you were waiting after eating.

Thanks!

RE: eating before exercise

Hello everyone!!!! Today I did Step Heat. I have never done it before. I needed an easier workout. My knees have been bothering me, plus I have been hitting it hard. It is still snowing here, we must have gotten a foot!!!! Well, I am off to mop my floors, yuck. Talk to everyone tomorrow.
Lori

I managed to squeeze in Step, Jump & Pump even though I was babysitting my friends' two kids, plus dealing with my own. I put everyone down for naptime and put the fear of god into them if they got up early! This was my first time with SJP and I had mixed feelings about it... I loved the step part, but I am not super-crazy about hi/lo, and I felt like the last two circuits were not getting my heart rate up there.
Tomorrow is Rythmic Step which I also have never done before (I guess one good thing about following this rotation is that it is forcing me to try all of the workouts I have been avoiding). I feel this first week of the Jan. rotation is really cardio-heavy - if the entire month feels like this I may end up tweaking it a little bit because I have been itching to lift. Pinky- I am in awe of you and the weight you are lifting! You must have some serious arms! I am a big believer in rewarding myself when I achieve my goals, and one of my goals is to drop 5 lbs. which have crept up on me in the past few months. I think I might reward myself with purchasing Slow & Heavy - it is the one dvd I don't have that I am really dying to get.
Have a great day everyone and stay warm! (it's cold here on the east coast)

RE: eating before exercise

Hi gals,
Thanks for the welcome.
I had a good morning.I did intervals 5-10 in interval max and I did 50 min run on the treadmill, then I did PLB.I was pretty tired after that.I made the mistake of not eating before I worked out.Normally I do, but I wasn't hungry so I never bothered.I didn't realize how draining that workout was gonna be.I had to have a couple of crackers between the workout.
Tomorrow is just cardio.I am not even sure that I am going to get it in b/c I have to work both jobs tomorrow.I have a 2 hour break before I go to my second job,so if I go to bed early tonight I should be able to do it.If not I may nap instead and workout tomorrow night.
Alrighty,I must go see whats happening with dinner.Chat to ya soon,
Lori:)

Finally got a chance to checkin here but did not workout due to high time restraints.
Hopefully tommorrow will be bodymax or some other total body from Cathe...this gal is finally going to bed - see ya'll manana.

Hello Lorihart and LisaLD and welcome!

Since I had to be at a school to do presentations at the ungodly hour of 7:30 am I had to postpone my usual morning workout until about 4:30 this afternoon. I did Step, Jump and Pump and totally agree with Tracy's comments. I loved the step part of it and the hi/lo sections just weren't doing it for me. I tweaked my knee a bit this afternoon so had to keep everything low impact for the most part. While the hi/lo was easily modified it just wasn't that creative. I think all my Christi Taylor workouts are spoiling me. Tracy, do you think that Cathe purposefully has the intervals going down in intensity because you wind up on the floor for the last set of weight exercises? This was my thought, anyway.

Brenda, about the arm/chest skin thing. I think any woman over the age of 12 who has even a little bit of chest has this 'cutlet' (how rude is that comment, shame on Wayne Lucas). I swear I've had this for as long as I can remember. Anyway, if you find a way to truly banish it let me know!!!

Pinky, glad to hear your little one is on the mend.

Several of you ladies at the check in are weight lifting animals!!!! I'm very jealous and it's definitely giving me something to aspire to.

Still hoping you'll let us know how you're doing Joy and Rhonda!!

Hope I haven't missed anyone. Gotta run and get some dinner.

Oh, has anyone been watching FitTV? In particular, has anyone caught episodes of In Shape with Sharon Mann? There is this one woman who does the high impact modifications and I swear I want to shoot a tranquilizer dart at her!!!!! She is completely out of control!!! As I was doing SJP I thought 'Cathe and crew can do high impact and not look like they're having a seizure of some sort. This other woman should not be allowed to appear on screen if she's going to model such erratic movements. How unsafe is that?!?!?'. Would love to hear other people's impressions.

Take care,

Hi again, I am having lots of fun:7 reading your posts.

Welcome Lisa! Sure, you're free to "sneak" in. I usually wait an hour after a meal to work out. However, since oatmeal is not as "solid" as chicken breast and brown rice, or egg whites and whole wheat bread, I don't have to wait that long. I did read that article you mentioned. My personal rule is, if it feels like the food has "passed on" or when my the fullness in my stomach is gone, then I work out. I normally eat every 3-4 hours and don't have that need to stuff myself so the fullness passes fast.

Tracy, thanks for the good thoughts. I don't have serious arms, although I'd like some.:) I'm actually a tiny person, 5'1", 108 lbs., and I fit better in an XS than an S. When I started Cathe, my heaviest weights were a pair of 12-lb. DB's. And even then those were hard, and I used them mostly for big muscle groups like back, legs and chest. I've reached most of my goals, like use 15's for bicep and shoulder work, and use a 40-lb. BB for leg work. I've surpassed the 40-lb. goal by 5 lbs. My biggest surprise was how strong my back really is, considering that I have scoliosis, and I was told by the PT to use only light weights. I still fit in a size 4/2 even though I'm 10 lbs. heavier than when I started out. I would like to have arms like Cathe's but my body type is more like Lorraine's.

Sabine, my son is well, thank goodness! But his carpet stinks!}( THAT, I'll have to take care of.:) I don't have FitTV. Wish I had, so I can watch Cathe.

Talk to you all tomorrow,
Pinky

Sabine- you're making me laugh. I haven't been able to figure out if we have FitTV or not- I'm not allowed to watch anything but Noggin in the waking hours until now (and we're watching John Stewart and my contacts are about to fall out).

Glad to see all of you here- more motivation to go around:)

Did Boot Camp today and what a difference with the barbell and high risers... My fanny is going to be sore again tomorrow.

Pinky, if the extra chest work doesn't take care of my cutlet I'm not sure what will. My cardio has still been pretty intense! That seems to be the problem- I'm really happy with my definition in my arms, shoulders, chest but then this- yuck.
It's actually probably not that noticable to others, but I'm becoming fixated. That couple on "What Not to Wear" is so rude- they make me furious but don't get me started...

Joy & Rhonda, are you ok??

See you all tomorrow.
