Flab Blaster 1/8

Good morning girls:

It's freezing here!!

I keep forgetting to see what the workout of the day is supposed to be... I think I may be doing Power Hour heavy today. My plan right now is to work heavy weights for the next few days and then next week light reps and high cardio.

Pinky, you made me curious to look at my back in the mirror- I think its really looking good, but I'm not sure what it looked like before - how strange? I've been using 20lb bells for the delt raises so that may be what's helped.
The cutlet, however is another story.

Do any of you have this problem? I find the muscle in between my shoulders and neck gets quite developed, which I seem to notice more in serious body builders. I definatly don't want to develop it and I'm wondering if I may be using it when doing things like military presses in which I usually use 12 or 15 lb bells. I wish I knew what the name of this muscle is. If I stand up strait you can't really tell but if I slouch it becomes really noticable. Am I crazy?

Lots of bill paying, laundry and organizing to do this a.m. - I need to clean up my weights and equipment all over the bedroom. My husband swears if he trips over the stability ball one more time he's taking a knife to it.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day planned- check in later.

Brenda

Hi everyone, keep warm wherever you are. In my beloved DFW, it has gone as low as 37 degrees in recent days. I've taken out my gloves and thick coats from the back of the closet.

Today is Leaner Legs, high-rep/low weight for a change. I'm planning on clinching it with ab work from ME, KPC and SJP in that order. It has been a long time since I made my abs work this hard.

Brenda, I've been looking in the mirror and that "cutlet" part (damn TLC!:) ) is, to the best of my observations, between the chest muscles and the anterior delt. So maybe you should be working out both? Like you, I'm not one to look at my back in the mirror because the curvature in my spine is obvious and depresses me. But sometimes, while warming up, I catch a glimpse of my back, where the shoulderblades are and I see tiny muscles that have popped out that weren't there before. Most of my body fat is concentrated in my hips, butt, abductors and lower abs, so it's easier to see progress in my upper body than in my lower.

Are you talking about the trapezius muscle? Shoulder shrugs with heavy weights can develop that. As far as I know, military presses are for the shoulders, although I can see how the trapezius muscle, being so close, can also help with the movement. Maybe you should do more DB front raises, like the last shoulder exercise in PUB. Just a thought...

Alrighty... chores, as usual. Then work out. Then some business matters late in the day. I might check in later before bed. You guys are awesome motivators! Thanks for being there.:7

So last night as I was getting ready for bed I found myself staring into the mirror and examining my "cutlets". And then the more I thought about it the angrier I got at the fact that some stupid comment on a t.v. show has the power to make me feel self-conscious about my body. And then I got beyond my anger when I realized that any comment Mr. Wayne cares to make about anything doesn't hold a lot of weight with me. I mean, here is a guy who looks like a slob, with his stringy long hair, baggy jeans and sweatshirts or army fatigues, and he is making derisive comments to others about how they look?! Incredible!

So anyways, I'm feeling a lot better today about my chicken parts.

I did Rhythmic Step today for the 1st time - I was just as clutzy and inept as I had feared and imagined I would be - but it was a lot of fun. There were times when I just gave up and did jumping jacks because I had no idea what was going on, but I have found that after my 3rd time through, I usually can get what's going on. I followed up with planks and abs from Power Circuit, and then I did the push-ups from the Timesaver #1. That is my personal goal for this year - to be able to do all of that push-up sequence doing real push-ups. So I am going to try and work that into my routine a couple of times a week. I almost did the whole sequence (almost, but it was on my knees!)

tomorrow is Leaner Legs and Imax intervals 1-5 and I can't imagine how I am going to be able to get through both of them. I think my best approach will be to split the day up, and do Imax in the morning and LL later on. any thoughts on this?
Have a great day.
Tracy

Good Afternoon...
It was 75 degrees here over the weekend and now it's 39 ; and it's warmed up since this morning. Yup it's cold out there. Our electric bill will be spiked this month.

This morning I did Timesaver #2. Kept my heartrate up there and I enjoyed knowing that I was working my body good. Love these short workouts for when life throws me some curveballs.

This week has not gone according to my planned rotation since we had a water leak in our kitchen, finding out my dad has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and all sorts of other things that distracted me this week. Oh well tommorrow is another day. At least I did work out sometime during the week.

Will checkin tommorrow

Good afternoon all,

Today is a kind of scheduled day off. I woke up feeling pretty lousy (headache, sinus pressure, achy) and decided to wait to see how I felt in the afternoon to decide whether to workout or not. While the sinuses are presently pressure free and I feel okay, the headache has not let up all day so I have decided to take today off, rest, and do today's workout tomorrow.

Can't believe how cold it is for everyone! I've been complaining that the highs out here have only been in the mid 50's. I'm such a baby:p . Bundle up and cuddle with loved ones ladies.

Shywolf, I'm so sorry to hear about your father. Hopefully the cancer was caught in plenty of time and his treatment won't be that invasive and will be 100% successful.

Take care,

Well, I put flab back on today. I got so discouraged yesterday I started eating, and I let it go on into today. I have to get back on track tomorrow. I just try so hard to drop some weight, and I can't ever do it. I was eating 1800 calories a day, and yesterday I was so hungry I could of eaten wood, and I just lost it. So, today I sulked all day, and ate bad, which REALLY helped. Now, I am getting my reality head back on. I have to come up with a plan tonight if I am going to try to count my calories again, or what. Sorry to whine, just needed to get it off my chest!!!!

Lori- try not to get too down on yourself. we all have days like these. When I have a day like this I tell myself I am calorie-staggering and it will help keep my metabolism from getting into a rut. ha! ha! don't worry, tomorrow is a new day!
Tracy

p.s. I am not trying to make light of your frustrations, just trying to be funny. Can I ask why you have decided on 1800 calories per day? I have found that for myself, I need to try and hold steady at 2000. I know that sounds like a lot, but if I go below that I end up having "binge" days. Maybe your body needs just a little bit more to help keep you satisfied? Just trying to throw out some ideas. I'm sure there are others who have more information or better answers for you.

Lori, Tracy's right- Don't get discouraged! I've had many bad days where by the end of the day I'm opening a box of cookies and start w/out stopping. Have a big glass of water and remember tomorrow is a new start (actually every meal is a new start!). If you find you're that hunrgy by the end of the day you may not be taking in enough calories. I've found if I have more filling snacks (natural peanut butter on 1/2 piece whole grain bread w/some fruit for example) tides me over much better than if I just grab a higher carb snack like pretzels.

I did the same thing Sabine- hope you feel better. I just sat around all day and couldn't get anyone to sleep and there are workmen here and I could name a million other excuses. I couldn't get it done today so unplanned day off- I'll workout Sat. and Sun now which I would have had off.

Shywolf- take it easy and sorry to hear about your father's diagnosis. My thoughts are going your way.

The trapezius muscle is the muscle i think you're talking about. Upright rows, Shrugs, bent over lateral raises,etc... can all work this muscle group. I agree that women probably don't need any specific trapezius work, but saying that i'm sure you are in proportion and look great. If it worries you that much, cut back on some of the exercises that seem to target the trapezius x

Hi Gals,
Hows everyone doing? I did workout yesterday:) but it was only for 30 min:-( I don't mind though.I have had some great workouts this week so I can'r complain.
I am planning on doing Bootcamp today and after each cardio I will do anywhere from 7-10min on the treadmill. So, I should get a great cardio workout in plus bootcamp.
Must go to work, hope evryone has a great day!
Lori:)

I am going to try to up it to 2000 a day. I just find it humiliating that I am starving at 1800 per day!!! So many people lose weight at 1400, and 1500, and I need 2000??? I am not tall and willowy, you know, I do not haver super fast metabolism, but I am still going to try the 2000. Thanks for letting me whine. Sometimes it just feels good.
Lori

Wayne, yes that's what I'm talking about. It may not be as noticable as I think but when I do notice it is just seems to be so much bigger than other women's trapeziuses (trapezii?) I'm going to try to be more aware w/my upper body workouts to make sure I'm not bringing it into play when doing other sets. Thanks!

Sabine and Brenda21 thanks for your words on my father, we don't know what stage his cancer is at until next week when he starts hormone treatments with the oncologist but his lymph nodes are inflammed and look very suspicious. Luckily we know now what is going on and his treatment will begin shortly . It's just a big shock though.

Today I was not able to fit in a workout once again as my carpet has been pulled up in my exercise area and we are waiting for the insurance adjustor for all the water damage to be assesed.
It seems that things must happen for a reason - eh?
I also had to go to see my doctor and found out the pain I've been having in my left heel is due to a bone spur plus I need to see a nuerologist since I also have numbness and tingling in that foot.

Sigh....
This coming week I WILL follow my rotation plan LOL :)
