FitnessFreak (raises hand, over here!)

Hi Debbie - sorry to bother you. You actually helped me over a year ago as I started out on this journey towards physical happiness :) You pointed me in the right direction with my fitness goals and I've made great progress. However, I've been stuck in a rut and getting very frustrated. I've put on a few pounds over the last few months and I'm very unhappy - I've been under a ton of stress (i.e. - living with the in laws while waiting for our closing to go thru which feels like it will NEVER happen, unsuccessful at trying to get pregant, etc...) and dipping into the sweets more than I should. My diet is clean all week long and then the weekend hits and I lose it. So, I was wondering if you could help me shake things up and recommend a new calorie range for me. I'm 5'2", :gulp: approx. 136-137 pounds although I could be wrong but if I get on the scale now I might flush myself down the toilet! At approx. 130-132 I felt great and looked great- I have a very athletic figure. I do exercise daily for approx an hour at a time and quite intensely. I do upper body twice a week, lower once a week and I try to sneak in a full body weight workout once a week. The rest of the week is some type of cardio. I typically burn between 450 - 550 calories each session. I've been averaging 1500 calories a day and that seems to work well for me satisfaction wise - I don't feel famished at the end of the day as I did before when I was sticking to 1400/day. I'm not a fan of low-carb as it really does leave me drained although I'm trying to average about 150 grams daily. I get enough protein and all that but I just thought you could offer some words of wisdom. I think you know already how valuable and appreciated you are around here. Thanks so much for your help. I'm excited to see what you have to say ;)

Tamara,
If you want to maintain your current weight you should be eating about 2186 calories a day. To lose weight you need to be eating between 1530-1749 a day.

Stress reaks havoc on our bodies so that may be one reason you can't lose weight. I've lived with my in-laws before and I know that can be difficult. My in-laws are the nicest people on the planet but I was stressed when I lived with them.

Hope this helps!

I'm not Debbie

But, would you be willing to switch out the whole body wo for a yoga workout? Maybe something a little more advanced since you seem to be in really good shape already. You might try some of the free classes on Yoga Today. I found that my body weight shifted best when I do yoga. That may help undo the damage of the stress of living with in laws. Good luck (I hope you don't mind me chiming in  )

Thank you ladies :) Debbie, what do you think of maybe me changing things up a little bit and inserting a few shorter HIIT workouts in? As it presently stands, I do longer, mostly high intensity workouts during the week so I wonder if doing 1 or 2 shorter bouts of cardio would benefit me at all. (I keep a log of my daily workouts - it's not pretty haha) I have been resting one day a week because all of the high impact was starting to take a toll on my knees so I feel a lot better. Again, thank you immensely..I know your time is valuable and I appreciate your input.

Alisha, thanks so much for the pointer. For a while I was doing a Denise Austin pilates/yoga dvd and I was not crazy about it - maybe it was just her, haha. But I need to find one that works for me because I agree it did relax me a lot. Any suggestions??

I would suggest doing steady state cardio or a more lower intensity cardio. Your body can't tolerate all that high intensity all the time. Even if you add in some walks in the evenings on a daily basis, that will help tremendously. So instead of HIIT all the time, change it up a bit. The body need change.
