Fitness Freak - Can I bother you for a question

I am trying to find the best time to work out. I'm currently laid off from work so it's less of a factor, but I'm looking so hope to find work soon.

Question is, when is it better to workout? My choices are: before the chickens wake up around 5:30am or after the rugrats go to bed around 9pm.

Problem with PM workouts isn't that I can't go to sleep after - I actually have no problem falling asleep after a shower. But the problem is I am STARVING after and I hate to eat that late.

Problem with AM workouts - Do I eat first? If so, would I need to get up earlier than 5:30 to allow my food time to digest? I am afraid I will run out of juice in the am.

Not Fitness Freak, but... I would workout at whichever time you will have more energy!

Sounds to me like 530 am is going to fit your life better. I workout at 530, and never eat anything before my workout, but I know that some ladies do have something small beforehand.

Good luck to you!

I would say the early a.m. workout is better. That way you have all the energy you need to get through the workouts and less of a chance to come up with reasons not to workout. When 9 p.m. comes around and you've had a hard day with work and family, who the heck wants to workout? I don't. But that's just me. I like to get it out of the way and then the day is mine. I workout around 6:15 every morning and I like it that way.

If you workout in the evening there is nothing wrong with having a protein shake afterwards. Actually, it is encouraged.

If you workout in the morning, have a protein shake about a half hour before your weight training workouts and another one right after. With cardio, just have one right after the workout.
