we took viola to the mall to see santa. with her autism/anxiety it was hard earlier to do so. there wasn't a line nor many ppl in the mall when we went so it was just perfect. she did get her picture taken but we don't have a scanner to show ya online! i have to check with walgreens on printing extras b/c the biggest package was only 8 wallets,4 3x5, and 2 5x7. seem to be a bit short and i wasn't going to pay another $30 for more LOL. just need a few for aunts/uncles.

so proud she did well of course we had to take her on the christmas train afterwards but it was still fun. its so hard to not be able to share the same experiences as "normal"(define normal anyway :p ) families and when we do get that special moment its worth every tough moment to get there!

god bless for the little things

I'm so glad Viola enjoyed herself! What a nice start to the season! You were smart to wait until she was ready. I bet she loves the picture.

DH took my DS (now 11) for exactly one Santa visit when he was around 18 months old. (DS has Aspergers and ADHD) It was a disaster! The picture we purchased shows my DH sitting on Santa's lap while holding our red eyed, very sad and scared looking little guy. :( Not sure how many Santa's get the parents in their lap along with the kid, but this one was a trooper.

Aw. I'm so glad it went well. The visit to Santa always freaked me out as a kid. On the one hand, I felt like I had to do it If I wanted my wishes to be known. On the other hand, after all the childhood warnings about strangers, our parents (who did the warning) would plop us into the lap of a strange man wearing a disguise. Creepy.

Yay for Viola! :) <3 She's braver than I was. I refused to go anywhere near Santa until I was much, much older (and my own Grandpa was behind the beard). In fact, there's not one single picture of me in Santa's lap.

Once I figured out I was getting presents though, I was like, "Make way for the fat man!"

johannah-aw poor thing. i remember when she was 2 or 3 and getting regular pictures we saw the problems. it took nearly 25 min to get her to stop climbing moving and crying. we never did any pictures again. she is maturing a bit more although still behind her age.

stacey/lori-LOL!! i know does seem to confuse a child. she was a little hesitant and then we said remember santa can bring you presents and she was fine. as long as she didn't recite the christmas story(she tends to recite lines from favorite movies at random) we were good! LOL.

i hope dh can scan it at work. it would be nice to get it online.

Kassia, that's great news, I'm glad you all could have that experience.

I've grown to be amused by the term "neuro-typical". Life with special needs kids is always interesting so you have to take the funny where you find it and there's something about that phrase that makes me chuckle - like "normal" people are just ever-so-slightly boring. LOL.

I've gone goofy, I know - sorry!
