Fiber revisited

Thanks Bobbi
I am glad to hear that there is an end in sight!!!:-jumpy My lower abs were killing me and I thought I would have to lower my fiber intake. It is good to know that I just need to hang in there a bit longer.

Thanks again for your help
Kathy

Thanks Honeybunch- I usually just drink water. Sometimes I will have a glass of flavored selzer water with dinner, but that is rare.

Thanks again

Kathy, that pesky gas gives the heading "fiber revisited" new meaning, doesn't it? lol If it remains a problem, cut back and add the additional fiber gradually over a few weeks time. Then your G.I. will have a chance to become accustomed to the additional fiber as it is added. I love this high fiber diet. I feel great and it's really helped me keep my diet clean but satisfying!

Bobbi-
It is amazing how clean I have been eating. I usually do but adding in all the beans and grains(I add all sorts of veggies to the beans and grains) just fills me up so much that I don't eat nearly as much. I do love that aspect of this type of eating. I was a little concerned at first that my protein intake would suffer but according to FITDAY I am still getting anywhere from 25-30% of my calories from protein. It is just great. Also my shoulders, arms and upper abs are definitely showing more definition. I guess I just need to stay away from anything or anyone that breathes for the next couple of weeks(good thing I have two dogs that are normally intestinely challeneged that I can blame it on)!LOL

Thanks
Kathy

We only have cats, but I am darned if they aren't the gassiest cats around! It really does get better!:)

The Gas Problems

I have tried just about all the products on the market for gas and I have found that Phazyme works the best. I discovered it when my daughter was a baby. For her it was in liquid form. Well, one day I thought I will try her gas medicine and I was amazed at how it helped.

So now I buy the adult pill form and I take one after every meal and I don't have the gas problems anymore.

OK, Robin - I seem to be following you around! I'm starting to feel like I'm stalking someone I'd never heard of a week ago. Apparently we're into all the same things - Cathe, the FIRM, the 20/30 diet and T-tapp. Everytime I think I've hit on something new and interesting, there you are! Scary!

I was concerned, too, about protein but it turns out I'm actually getting a lot more protein with a high fiber diet than I was before! I eat a lot of beans and I've had a bit of the gas problem but I've only been doing this for 1.5 weeks now. It does seem better now, though. It actually HURT that first week!

I also don't snack nearly as much - usually I have to remind myself that it's lunch time! Plus, my absolute favorite food is cereal. You can't go wrong with a diet that encourages Frosted Shredded Mini Wheats!

RE: a new cereal

I bought Uncle Sam Cereal at Safeway yesterday. A 1 cup serving has 190 calories, 5 grams of fat, 38 grams CHO, 10 grams fiber, 7 grams protein and 2000 mg of omega-3 fatty acids! It's nutty and good!

RE: a new cereal

10 grams of fiber is really good, although the calorie count is a little high. All Bran has 10 grams of fiber also, but it's hard to eat....gets all sloppy and yukky real quick. But I eat it cause I like all that fiber.

RE: a new cereal

Hi, Honeybunch,

It's actually not too bad since flax seeds contain a bit more fat, the calories are the beneficial omega three kind. I have another cereal which has 190 calories for 2/3 of a cup with 8 grams of fiber,3 grams of fat, 42 grams of CHO and 5 grams of protein. It contains dates, raisins and almond, a bit of added sugar (usually a big no no for me) but is really delicious. Besides, have you ever heard you should eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a queen and dinner like a pauper? I sometimes have high calorie breakfasts and eat less later in the day.

The Uncle Sam cereal has whole wheat kernels, a rarity these days. I also bought Kashi Pilaf; haven't tried it yet. This is making me hungry!

Bobbi:)

RE: a new cereal

Uncle Sam... I think I've seen it. Is it the kind that says it's a natural laxative? Maybe that was the reason I've never bought it- I might get embarrassed! I do need to go to the store in a day or two, so maybe I'll pick some up (ugh, since I usually shop at Super Wal-Mart. Bad time of year for grocery shopping there!)

RE: a new cereal

That's the one! Don't be embarrassed. Just tout the benefits of a high fiber diet and let em know you're a health nut! Or tout the benefits of Omega-3 fatty acids. It boasts 2000 mg per serving!

I took my kids to see Monsters, Inc. at the Mall and it was a zoo! It's going to be like that for awhile. 'Tis the Season! It's right next door to our new Super Walmart. Crazy place but great prices on some things and the produce is good because turns over quickly due to the busy-ness of the place. I had Pumpkin Pie for brakfast and lunch and indulged yesterday in a way I haven't in a long time. I'll be needing all that fiber if I keep this up. I know--more than you need to know! I am going back to my clean diet tomorrow. My in-laws are coming for a visit and my husband will be on vacation so I am going to have to be strong! He's a great cook but doesn't give a hoot about what goes into his body. The holidays can wreak havoc with diet, can't they!?

By the way, Monsters, Inc. was a delight!
