Feeling bad about Insanity

Hey Ladies, I know this may sound stupid but, I have only done insanity about 6 times and even though I finish them and feel good after words, I'm feeling really like a failure lately. I have one more week of STS 6 month rotation left have really seen results and love STS. I thought I was in really good shape until I did insanity. I really just feel alot of dread factor when I try to do the workouts and have not done it for a couple of weeks and it really makes me feel like a failure. I don't know how to get past it and just feel good about my progress otherwise. Thanks for letting me vent. Lori

Lori,
First of all {hugs}.
Secondly anyone finishing up a 6 month rotation of STS is certainly NOT a failure.
It doesn't sound like you feel like a failure during the workouts, you just don't pull them out to do them. When I do my next rotation of STS, I'm not sure if I'll be up to doing Insanity workouts during non STS days either, and I'm 3 weeks away from completing an Insanity rotation.

After you finish STS, you can try and start up with just one or two Insanity workouts a week, or try a full blown rotation if you like, but remember not doing Insanity workouts doesn't make anyone a failure, it just makes them well SANE. :D

So Chin up.

Not every workout is for everyone. I didn't even buy Insanity--just knew it wasn't for me and really I don't feel guilty at all. The important thing is to do something for strength and cardio that works for you. If you have a dread factor and don't want to do it that is OK. You did the STS rotation and loved it. Concentrate on your success. Life is too short to beat yourself up over some workout you think you should love. I absolutely refuse to be plagued by the dread factor and prefer to concentrate on the workouts that I actually will use.

i am enjoying in insanity very much. i'm on the second week first month not doing any other dvdds/vhs. i am able and willing to give it my all and only focus on insanity, nothing else.

You do not sound like a failure in the least. You completed STS and that is success in and of itself. Congratulations! I am in my second month of Insanity and really, really loving it. On one occasion I did have a dread factor but I just pressed the play button and went for it. That day I was a little tired. Insanity is a very tough workout even for the most fit. Sometimes when I am feeling the same as you, I come back to a workout later. Perhaps wait a while and try again or maybe Insanity is just not for you. Don't feel bad I think that all of us have workouts that are just not for us.

don't feel like a failure! i did about 2 weeks of insanity and quite and haven't done it since. It just wasn't for me and made me dread working out. I have yet to complete a rotation for STS so you have done a huge accomplishment from doing that! Feel proud!

I agree with one of the posts that mentioned your dread of insanity may be linked to the fact that you are still doing STS and have been doing it for 6 months. This is an incredible accomplishment and probably doing insanity for the first time coupled with the first time of a SIX month STS rotation is a little bit too much. Perhaps once you finish STS and give your body a rest, then you can start up on Insanity and just concentrate on Insanity. That seems to be fair to you and to Insanity. Just my $0.02.

But I do have to reiterate, you are NOT a failure. You are amazing! And I hope you come to feel really proud of your accomplishment! Wow, 6 month rotation of STS is definitely impressive!

Oh Ladies, you are all just the sweetest women. Thank you so much for your encouraging words. I can't tell you how much better I feel. It's always nice to have a little encouragement! Thanks so much, Lori

Lori,

I agree with everything the PP's have already said. I just want to add one more thing: if you feel like you need to be able to do an entire Insanity workout without resting or breaks, or that you need to keep up with Shaun's pace, then you're setting your expectations too high. If you watch the videos, you'll see every member of the crew, *including Shaun* taking breaks and pauses constantly. The point of an Insanity workout is NOT to do it "perfectly".....the point is to *just do it, as best as you can, that day!* Frankly, if you can get through an entire Insanity workout without taking breaks, then you're pacing yourself too much, and you need to crank up the intensity. The point is to take you out of your comfort zone and shock the system to take it to a new level. If you can accept being uncomfortable for 40-60mins, then you'll see progress.

Having said all that, if the style of the workout just isn't something that works for you, then congratulate yourself for having tried something new, and move on. Do what you love; love what you do.

Congratulations on finishing a 6mth STS rotation!!:D:eek::D

What about only doing 1 or 2 per week? Seems like many of Cathe's rotations include only one HIIT of the 3 cardio days per week. Maybe that would help ease you away from the dread factor if it was not quite as often?

I am mid week #2 of month 1 and they do seem very similar. I like pushing myself so they work for me at this point. We'll see if I feel the same later in the month or in month 2 . . .

I do know that regardless of whether I finish this as planned (and I am planning on finishing) that I will use these workouts when I am looking for a good HIIT that is short but not sweet. I really love the feeling after I am finished. Today it seemed to go quite quickly - now when Pure Cardio goes quickly I'll really be pleased ! ;)

I have ordered STS Cardio and am looking forward to those also. Can't wait for the time I can put both STS workouts to use at the same time and see the results !
