feelin guilty

Cathlete
so i have the flu:( it started monday afternoon and was full force by yesterday morning. I stuck out work on Tuesday but today I couldn't do and had to call in sick. I called in not only for myself but also for the patients (geriatric population). I have no voice at all and a fever. Yet despite feeling so crummy, i feel SOOOOOOO GUILTY for calling in. Does anybody else feel like this when they call in or am I just weird?

I also feel guilty when I call out BUT You need to put it in perspective. If you go in, you not only work at a lower capacity but you also risk infecting everyone else with your ailment. You sound like you need to be home and resting, so lay down and rest!

I always feel bad when calling out no matter how sick I am, but just remind yourself how bad you would feel if you hauled your sick self in there and then caused one of your patients to get sick or worse. You did the responsible thing.

You shouldn't feel guilty.

Honestly, it really pi$$es me off when people come in knowing they're sick AND contagious! (especially when we have a very generous sick day package)

I'd rather pick up a co-workers slack at work for a few days than get their flu cooties! ;)

I hope you feel better soon!! It's no fun being sick :(

Yes, I get the guilts too when calling in sick particulary since I work for an attorney and I'm his only employee  When I'm not at work my work just does not get done and it is waiting for me when I return

No guilt here! I get so upset and angry when people come in to work sick ... I just assume they would feel the same way about me.

I always feel guilty calling in but I have to remind myself sick days are in place for a reason. I won't call in for a cold but if I'm sick with a fever, I definitely call in!! There is one person who thinks he is a martyr and comes in no matter how sick he is and it annoys me to no end!!! In the end, how harmful is it to call out for a couple of days? You get better, you don't bring the sickness into work with you to sideline your coworkers, and you're way more productive when you're well than when you're feeling crappy.

I was thinking about this last week when I called in due to my major sinus infection. It's kind of sad that those of us who are hard workers are made to feel guilty when we call out, meanwhile you have people that call out because they sneezed once!

I had to call out on friday due to stomach issues and a fever. I felt totally awful b/c this is a brand new job and I don't get sick days until I am here 90 days. It's only been about a month. :( I agonized over it but there was nothing else I could do. Going in would have been stupid and worthless. I would have done no good being there in the shape I was in.

I get that guilty feeling, too and I almost am never out sick! It's my mother's fault for instilling a very strong work ethic in me early on!

When it comes to things like the flu, you can't work with a fever and expose the rest of your co-workers, and in your case, a very vulnerable population to the illness. I got the flu last November for the first time in over 30 years, and felt horribly guilty about being out, especially since I was going to be on vacation the following week! You do what you have to, though!

Get well soon!

I have felt that way. But, think of it like this, you don't need to feel guilty for not killing people because the elderly are one of the populations most likely to die from an encounter with the flu. Hugs! I hope you feel better soon.

I called in sick one day last week because I had bronchitis. I felt terrible but really knew I could not make it thru the day.

Then early this week, my boss had the never to come up and ask me to do a presentation for her, as she was so behind on paperwork - insinuating that it was because of all of MY work that she did last week. I almost lost it:mad:

I have over 200 hours of sick leave banked - guess it's time to get pregnant so I can use it for maternity leave;)

I sure wish that the cashier who just checked me out at the grocery store had called in sick today. After sneezing and coughing all over me and my food she explained that she thought she might be fighting the "crud". WHAT?? I don't know what it is, but keep it off my dinner please!!
