feel the burn....

Cathlete
Cathe, on your Butts and Guts DVD, when I do the one legged squats(sweating all the way), I feel the burn in my thigh muscle of the leg on the step, not in my butt muscle of the leg on the floor. I am pushing up thru the heel of the foot on the floor...Am I doing something wrong? I do have an all over "good" hurt the next day:). How many days/week would you reccomend this DVD? Thanks, Kay

Not Cathe here, but I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. I always hated one legged squats on the step. But I've been doing Butts and Guts more and more now and as I do them more often I'm "training" my muscles to work properly. It's hard to explain, but I try to relax the leg that is on the step and focus all of my attention on the hamstring muscle below the glute. I find as I do it more and more that I can actually feel it working in the glute area. Not to say that I don't feel the thigh muscle of the leg on the step anymore, but I just focus thoroughly on that glute. For me it's practice and patience...lol.

Hopefully Cathe can give better advice, but that's what has helped me along so far.

Good luck!

Hi Kay! You don't need to do B&G more than once or twice a week tops. As for feeling it in the glutes, try lowering your step height so that your back leg isn't quite as high. This will give you a bit better balance and then perhaps you'll be able to focus more on pressing up through the heel of the front leg so that you can find that glute better. Or you could also try just lowering down and holding your body in the semi squat without actually doing the reps. While in this contraction try to hone in on the glute muscle and really squeeze it for 15 to 20 seconds before releasing. Good Luck!
