feel like an elephant, want to be butterfly

Cathlete
Cathe, any suggestions for someone who feels "heavy" on their feet doing step routines and some exercises like jacks, etc? I feel like my whole house is shaking...:) I really want to be "light" on my feet. Thanks

Not Cathe, but what type of gym shoe are your wearing. I try to wear only lightweight gym shoes when I do step because it doesn't make so much noise and I can pick up my feet faster.

I have Rykas, they are light weight, I am not:) I have trouble w/ "fast feet", things like that. I'm looking on the blog, and see a lot of feet movements, like jumping over dumb bells etc. I'll muddle thru.:)

Sometimes, just thinking "LAND SOFTLY" will help. Also, soften your knees when you land, don't lock your legs out. That helps to soften the noise. I think it's easier to become more "graceful" after you know a routine and know what is coming. Just a few ideas to possibly help...have FUN! We like elephants too! :7

Not Cathe, but just wanted to add that, interestingly, having a strong core can help you control how lightly--or not--you land in jumping moves. I think it has to do with the idea that core strength
helps you stabilize your body while your moving through space and if you can control that effort, you can get better control of how fast and high you go and, to some extent, how you land on your feet.

So maybe increasing your core work will help transform you into a butterfly! Probably couldn't hurt, right?:)

I agree with everyone who responded. I felt massive when first started working out, like I couldn't move fast enough because there was so much of me to drag around. I felt that way because I was that way. I'm halfway to where i want to be so it's still somewhat of a struggle but nowhere near like when I started and was REALLY obese. Persistance pays off. Just remember, one of the beautiful things about working out at home is you don't have to worry about making a fool of yourself in a room full of much more coordinated, much more fit people. I mean, please, who among us hasn't chased a stability ball around the dining room? Just say to yourself "whatever" and keep trying. Everything takes awhile to "get." Do that and there will come a time when you won't believe you ever had trouble with that move or felt cumbersome and "heavy." Follow the really good suggestions here (like "think light" which really works) and you'll be a butterfly in good time. Just don't give up.

Thanks everyone:) I'll keep trying (and laughing at myself:)) I do agree that it takes awhile to get "it", I'll not give up. I do love the fact that I can work out at home, then no one can comment on my form (except my cat, but she ain't sayin' nothing;-) ).. Kay
