Cathlete
Hi Cathletes!

So, I'm still pretty much a FB newb. I am getting updates on people I don't really associate with anymore. How do I un-friend them? or remove them?

Thanks!
Pam

On your page click on the "friends" block of pictures towards the top if your page. You will then see a list of all your friends. You have to go one by one and click on the "friends" box next to the person you want to unfriend. Then click on "unfriend". hope this helps you get started.

You really don't need to unfriend them though...you could just block their updates. That is generally what I do....

Pam,

I'm pretty new to FB....I don't much about it, but wanted to share this with you.:D
10 Reasons Why We Hate Facebook - YouTube

I hate Facebook for all the reason's mentioned on that youtube link, except for the baby pics (I love those!) and yet I cannot bring it upon myself to delete my account. Everyday I ponder deleting my page, only to be convinced by the little devil on my shoulder that I NEED FACEBOOK. It is truly a love/hate relationship :).

Same here!:) I deleted an account a few years ago, and then signed back up to view photos of my dogs playing at daycare.
My sister and her 3 children are really into FB and convinced me to befriend them (trying to get over 100 friends). I cannot believe how many messages I get from their 4 accounts and emails from FB asking me if I know this person they befriended.:confused:
Seriously?!!.... "F*** YOU MIKE! I WILL NOT JOIN YOUR CULT!" LOL:p:p

I just deactivated my FB account 2 days ago. I will truly miss being connected to my Cathe friends esp, but I think social media, even with all of its good things, also contributes to an attitude of "I can say anything I want behind this cloak of anonymity." I made a conscious decision not to be a part of that on that scale any more. I'll go check out that you tube vid now. Thanks.

I was not able to view the YT vid on my iPad. I got a message saying the vid was unavailable. I will try on my PC later though. I joined FB long before it became so popular. I almost never post status updates now, and I find the people who post their every move on FB rather irritating. Because I am connected to Bon Jovi fans all over the world on FB, (YES, I HEART BON JOVI!!! :p) I would never give up my account. I do beadwork for fun, and am connected to beaders everywhere through FB. I appreciate Cathe's updates of course, :D as well as learning of breaking news stories. I like following the activity of companies whose products I use. I do wish I had separate accounts though.....one for Bon Jovi and beader peeps, and one for family, but no way am I going to manage two FB accounts! I had a Pinterest account and deleted it when the intellectual property controversy took place early on. I am glad I did. Pinterest has fabulous eye candy, but what a sit-on-your-butt time waster!

It's so funny because before I had my daughter, I refused to set-up an account. Everyone would look at me in dismay when I told them that I did not have a FB page . After I had my daughter, I succumbed to the FB peer pressure, mostly by my 53yr old aunt who is a FB-aholic :rolleyes: (btw, she is one of those really cool, hip, ladies that Tweets and is into all social media. There is NO WAY that woman is invisible ;)). Anyhoo, it was set-up mostly to connect with family/friends who wanted to see pics of my new baby girl. I thought it was a rather good way to keep in touch with relatives with whom I rarely saw due to long distance travel. Fast forward 4 yrs later, and I'm finding it rather irritating sometimes. I try to keep my friends/family limited, and I'm not interested in accepting a "friend" who I rarely know and perhaps made small talk with at the grocery store like 10yrs ago .
Lots of FB friends = lot's of drama. I ain't down with that :D.

Nice to hear, Natasha. ;)

I love Bon Jovi! I have been to 2 of his concerts, and my aunt has been to all of his concerts in Toronto for the past 10yrs.
I actually enjoy getting status updates from famous people and TV series (mostly Showtime & AMC shows :p). I also follow companies/stores I frequently shop at. That's also why I've been hesitant to delete my account.

Keep in mind that if you just block someone from your News Feed, they can still see your posts, if they choose not to block you. If you truly don't want to have any interaction with someone, then unFriending them is the better option.

Also, there are add-on programs, such as Social Fixer, that enable you to customize your FB experience. Included in those customizations is the ability to be notified when someone unFriends you. So it's not necessarily anonymous if you take that action.

I have learned not to take unFriending too personally, especially when it is someone I have maybe not even met and/or have very little interaction with. I also have learned to not feel guilty if I decide, for whatever reason, to unFriend someone. There are times I have let the person know about it ahead of time and why, and others I have just taken the action and let it go.

ETA: I think the FB experience is what you make of it. If you are selective about your Friends, monitor your privacy settings, and are wise in what you post it is a wonderful social tool. I have no affiliation with Social Fixer, but highly recommend its use, as you can customize how you view FB and also additional privacy modifications. I viewed the YouTube video that was posted and thought it was cute, but realized that most of the things that were being complained about are fully in your control to avoid.

You don't need two separate accounts to accomplish this. You can create separate friend lists, and just view the news feeds from those particular lists, one at a time. So you can have your BJ list and your Beader list. :)

Mspina, thank you for your post. Trust me, I have EVERYONE in lists, lol! That is a MUST on FB. It's just that I would much prefer to keep my hobbies separate from my family. Just as I come here to chat with all the fine Cathletes :D, my family is not involved. So, in the same vein, that is why I would prefer my hobbies be separate from my family. ;)
