favorite wine

I love Riunite D'oro. It's mildly sweet white wine. I can buy in in a gallon jug for about $16 and sip on it for a month or so.

I'm a little late to this thread, but wanted to add my favorites.

I like a sauvignon blanc--in particular a Swiss one called Johanniter Keller Sauvignon Blanc.

I also like Rose wines from the Loire Valley in France. I miss how cheaply we could get these when we lived in Europe.

Another new favorite are wines from the Warwick Valley winery here in New York. I like their Black Dirt Blush and their merlot. http://www.wvwinery.com/index.php?p=wine They sell some of their wines at our local farmer's market in the spring and summer so I always get some there.

Does anyone live some place where you can get wine in the grocery store? When I lived in Europe I would buy my wine while at the grocery store (and they had a wonderful selection), but here in NY they only sell beer at the grocery store. It's so annoying because I don't like taking an extra trip to the liquor store and I'm not comfy bringing kids to the liquor store.

Lainie, here in PA, you can only get wine in a State Store. The selection isn't very good, although it is improving, and the prices are outrageous. The government has to get their cut. We can't order any kind of wine on-line, so you can't join any of the wine clubs, or buy specialty wines. When we take a weekend trip to the Finger Lakes and come home with a case of wine, we are breaking the law!

I hate cardio...I just HATE it! Why do I have to do cardio!? I don't want to do it!...Oh...you said WINE, not WHINE :p

We can buy wine in grocery stores. There's a Kroger near me that even has a sommelier on staff; they have GREAT wines!

I'm in VT and we can buy wine at pretty much every grocery, general, and convenience store around, no matter how small. :)

How 'bout this: Here in CT not only do grocery stores not sell wine but you can't buy ANY liquor after 8pm (although they just changed the law to 9pm--if the individual store chooses to stay open that long) and NO LIQUOR CAN BE PURCHASED AT ALL ON SUNDAYS. What's up with that?!?!?!?! GRRRRR! x( x( x( It annoys the heck out of me!

Try living in Utah, where you cannot buy anything booze on Sunday, plus have to buy a "membership" in order to drink in the bars/clubs.

I live in Vegas now and you can buy wine everywhere! Same thing in California.

YES! My grocery store has a great selection of wines & beers.

And if I can't find what I want, there's a liquor store on every corner.

We booze it up in this part of Texas! :7

Um, wine the grocery store? yup. And Target (not a bad selection, either). And Walmart. And the 7-11. Some gas stations. Everyday of the week. Hours for the liquor dept are just shorter on Sundays. There are a few towns locally who have different laws, but I think as a state, in Illinois, if it sells food/grocery it can sell beer/wine. Target also carries hard liquor, I don't think WalMart does

I'm late to the party, but I'll bring a really nice Golden Eye Pinot Noir (or Paul Hobbs, or Dumal). Unfortunately, I cannot afford to drink these very often, but YUM!!

I love a crisp cool Chardonnay in the summer, a really good Sauvignon Blanc (the Aussies and the New Zealanders have these down really well), and I do like a good nice merlot as well.

If I'm out and don't recognize the wines, I'll get a merlot as most are decent wines. Pinot's are very hit and miss - but when they are good, you cannot beat them for flavor.

I'm lucky in that I live in the Bay Area of California and we just got a condo in Napa that will be available in October. Just in time for the harvest season!

And, don't forget, if you're at a restaurant, and want a wine by the glass, you can always ask for a taste first. (Solves that Pinot Noir doubt--you're so right, while many are good, there are some horrible ones out there, too!).

When I was a waitress, and someone was torn between the wines we were pouring by the glass, I'd suggest that they get a taste to make sure they liked it. With glasses of wine costing $7.00 and up a pop, it's the least a restaurant can do.

I love wine too! My favorite kind is a brand but you can only purchase this wine from the winery. It's Vi Sattui, located in St. Helena, CA & every kind of wine I've had from there, white or red or whatever, has been absolutely wonderful. As far as type of wine, I tend to like reds better than whites & of those, Pinot Noir is my fave but Cabernets & Red Zins come in a close second. As for whites, I really enjoy a rich, creamy, cold Chardonnay in the summertime.
