favorite wine

Wine is one of my favorite indulgences. After years of drinking white wine and trying to like red, I've recently discovered pinot noir. It's finish is so much cleaner than a merlot. I was wondering what everyone else's favorite wine is?

I like wine, too. I usually drink merlot (Mattie's Perch from Australia is a very cheap, very good wine). I also like Yellow Tail. I have never been impressed with more expensive wines and like my cheaper stuff!

I also like shiraz, or cabernet. That being said, I only drink wine occasionally, with girlfriends, or at a restaurant (which is a rare occasion for me!)

I never liked red wine before, either. One friend talked me into trying it with ice and I liked it very cold. Now I love it and couldn't think of putting ice in it. I like it room temperature.

I'm more of a white kinda gal. I love reisling and gurtwurztermiener (I know that is NOT spelled right). Chardonnay tastes like tree trunks to me and merlot tastes like cigarette ashes, and I've tried many kinds of each. I do however like shiraz and pinot noir. I've also discovered I like some of the blended varieties where there are 3 (or more) kinds of red or white in the bottle. I like the merlot and chardonnay blends. All in all, I like most of it, but I prefer sweeter over drier. I don't like the feel of drinking a liquid and then having a dry mouth. Too weird.

My favorite red is a wine called "menage a tois" ( I'm not sure if I spelled that right though) it is a blend of several reds.

Hi Nan,

I had to post a response to your response because I felt like I could have written it!! :7 Reisling is my favorite wine!! One of my favorite labels is Relax, but I haven't tried very many--- YET! :9

Fun thread!

:)

My favorite inexpensive red is Château Pesquié Les Terrasses 2003. I loved that year, but, it's all gone now. The 2006 is pretty good...it's a wine that you need to drink young; it doesn't get better with age. It runs about $14.00.

But my absolute favorites are Italian reds: Brunello, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Barolo, Barbaresco. YUM!

<<I love reisling and gurtwurztermiener (I know that is NOT spelled right). >>

HAHAHAHA!! The only reason I know how to spell it because I have it right here! It's my new fav. I'm so proud because I learned how to pronounce it last weekend: guh-VOORTS-truh-meener.

I usually drink Chardonnay, and I never met one I didn't like. I just can't get into red wine except for port...I love a glass of Ruby Port for dessert.

Right now I'm into Pinot Noir and Shiraz/Syrah. But I also like Cab. Sauv, Cab. Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese, Malbec . . . . . . and any good dry red I can get my hands on! ;)

For you Reisling lovers, check out some Finger Lakes wineries (in NY)!!!

I love Cabernet Sauvignon. It's what I usually order at happy hour. Barefoot Cellars makes a cheap yet decent bottle. Redeye- I'm totally with you. Ruby port is amazing. Now if I could only keep wine from making my face all flushed (and that's just after one)!

I also like Beaujolais and for whites, Santa Margharita Pino Grigio.

Hi Lauralea,

You might also try a good Old Vine Zinfandel (NOT the same a sicky sweet white zinfandel...blech).

Pepperwood produces a decent one that isn't too pricey or hard to find.

Yay for Gayle. I was just going to post that no one seemed to like my own personal favorite evening sipping wine - Zinfandel. I like Sutter Home - not too pricey, not to complicated. I can't afford some of more expensive Zins, but like Rancho Zabaco too. And if I'm celebrating something I love, love, love a sparkling white wine from Dr Frank's winery in the Finger Lakes region of NY - Blanc de Blanc or Blanc de Noir - both are superb.

Seriously. Why does it cost that much? It's hard to be a graduate student! :) I only get it on special occasions. I've tried to find another grigio I like, but have been disappointed. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't drink wine very often but when I do it's pinot grigio. I LOVE it!! The expensive stuff always tastes the best.
