Favorite Wii Games

Today I bought a Wii for DH and DDs for Christmas. I'd like to buy them games for it but I'm not sure what to get.

DH likes boxing video games, 007-style games, and racing ones.
DDs that will be playing are 5 & 7.

Anybody have any recommendations on what to buy them?

Thanks so much!

My boys like the Wii Fit (the one with the balance board). I'm actually asking for Shaun White's Snowboarding game that uses the balance board as a snow board.....yes I AM ASKING FOR IT, not the kids! :p

I heard Punch Out was a good boxing game. The problem with the Wii though is that the calibration for the boxing games is kind of off. The system doesn't pick up the movements accurately, so it's kind of hard.

I love Mario Kart. It's a go-kart racing game that DH and DS's can play together and it is so much fun! My dad even loves it, haha.

Thanks for the ideas! I was looking at the PunchOut game online thinking that it might be a good one for DH. And you can't go wrong with Mario for the kids! Or the adults! :D

Our family really likes the Sports Resort--a lot of variety and something for everyone. My husband and I stay up late and have some friendly competition and my 11 year old loves it when we play for family night. However I am getting the Wii Fit Plus for Christmas!

Super. Smash. Bros. Brawl.

(does it use the Wii's functionality that much, no, but its awesome if you can play it)

Oh and Legend of Zelda and Mario Galaxy. Don't forget to save the world! :)

My kids LOVE that Smash Bros Brawl, but for the life of ME, I can't figure out what it's all about other than tumbling and stuff! LOL The characters just seem to flip and flop all over the screen! But the kids LOVE IT!

And YES on the Mario Kart Racing. My one DS likes to use the regular Wii remote for it, but my older DS and I prefer the steering wheel where you snap the Wii controller into the wheel and 'drive' with that. That's an awesome game.

Now I HAVE to make sure my kids get me Shaun White's Snowboarding! LOL (they're going shopping for me this weekend, with my mom! LOL)

Gayle,

The Shaun White's Snowboarding game is awesome with the Balance Board!! It takes a bit to get use to and it's challenging. I think it's the best game for the balance board hands down! I wonder if the new Tony Hawk game will support the balance board?

My favorite Wii games are:

Zelda
Mario Party
Mario Galaxy

I have played the New Boy and his Blob because that game was a favorite of mine as a child however I thought it was a little childish for me but for your kids that are 5 & 7 it would be great! The graphics are good and there is lots of hints to tell you what to do next.

Good Luck!

Merry Christmas!!

From what I can tell and have heard -MarioKart is THE racing game to have. My boys (10 and 12 love it).

I heard that the Golds Gym cardio game is all boxing but don't have it.

My boys love the Shaun White skateboarding too.

They are asking for Wii sports resort and Mario Winter Olympics (they have Summer Olympics and really like it).

Other favorites - Raving Rabbids, any of the lego games (star wars, indiana jones, batman).

My daughter is 12 - she likes smooth moves and animal crossing - these are appropriate for younger kids.

We all also love all the Guitar Hero and Rock Band games. SUPER FUN!

Wow! I saw Jerry's post about the Gold's Gym program and didn't know that I'd find even more info here today!!! :D

We're just getting one this year as our family gift for Christmas and I have NO IDEA what to get, or if any of the bundles are really great deals or not...

Besides games, are there any basic recs for things to definitely get or definitely not waste our money on? Kids are 2-7, focus is fitness and family style games. I'm thinking the Wii Fit (that's the balance board, right?) would be good for the adults, but what's the difference between Wii Fit and Wii Fit plus?

Anyone have any opinion on Wii Cheer? Thats' one that my oldest was talking about, but I'm not sure what it is - game or fitness? Or both?

What are the controllers and nunchucks, or are they the same thing? (See, I'm TOTALLY Wii ignorant.. ) Are there different types of accessories that we have to use for different games, or can you use the basic one for most?

Thanks so much for any help!! And keep up the reviews/reports!! I'm taking notes :D

We all love Mario Kart - my 7yo beats me every time! We have the steering wheels for this game, but they are not needed. My dd uses one, but I don't.

We are getting We Cheer 2 for Christmas - I heard it's better than We Cheer 1, but both are supposed to be great. I think you need two remotes per person, but not sure. We have three remotes and are getting a 4th sometime.

My kids (7-18) LOVE Super Smash Brothers, but I've never played.

I really enjoy Gold's Gym and my 7yo dd has been playing, too. I'm trying to get my teens to play...we'll see.

GraceNote - The controller looks like a remote control and is referred to as a wiimote (not sure on the spelling). The nunchuck is the little hand thingie that has a joystick like button at the top and a trigger button on the front. It plugs into the other controller. A lot of games use both, but not all.

Grace - Wii Fit Plus is just the new version of Wii Fit. If you don't have either - get Wii Fit Plus with the balance board (not the standalone game). Wii Fit Plus has all that Wii Fit has PLUS more games and options. So you don't need both.

I've heard Wii Cheer is a lot of fun but don't have it.

I would say though that Wii Fit Plus is a lot of fun but not a hard workout. It can get you to break a sweat but it's beginner level stuff. The games are a lot of fun for anyone.

Besides the console and the balance board (if you are getting Wii Fit Plus) I would get additional remotes and nunchucks. Some games you take turns so you pass the remote/nunchuck back and forth, but other games you play side by side so you need two remotes and possibly two nunchucks if the game requires it. We have 4 remotes and 2 nunchucks. Rock Band only uses remotes but if you want a 4 person band you have to have 4 remotes.

Rock band is MAJOR FAMILY FUN!

One other thing - a hot game right now is Wii Sports Resort and it comes with another attachment (some type of enhanced motion sensor?) - if you get that, one comes with the game, but you need to by another one if you want to have two players play at the same time.

I wouldn't bother with the sport equipment add ons to make remote more like a tennis racket or a golf club - they aren't necessary.

OH - if you get MarioKart - the Wheel accessory makes it easier to play - again you need 2 (I think 1 comes with the game) if you want to race side by side with another player.

I had never bought any game system before. I bought the Wii specifically for Rock Band/Guitar Hero World Tour. LOVE THEM!

We also love the sports games. The Sports Resort uses the new controller add-on (comes with the game) that is a big improvement on accuracy. My son (17yo) loves the sword games on Sports Resort. I (52yo) love the boxing.

I also have EA sports. I like that I can combine my own workouts on that one. There are a few Wii fit things I like but mostly I don't find them challenging. Except the balance ones. I'm a klutz.

I bought the Wii so my children and their spouses or SO's would have something to do when they come for visits. We mostly rent games like Mario Bros. and racing games. I also bought Guitar Hero which they love.

We have We Cheer and Santa is bringing We Cheer 2 for DD this year (even though she is 22). DD loves We Cheer and I am starting to get the hang of it.

You can get by on 2 remotes - 1 for each person if you choose that option - you just designate who is the right hand and who is the left hand and follow the appropriate arrows.

I have heard that We Cheer 2 has a beginner option which might be appropriate for younger (or in my case, older) players. DD has unlocked all the songs on the intermediate level and half the songs at the advanced level of the original. I, playing alone, have only beaten 2 songs.

I think it is a combination of fun and exercise. DD got carried away on Thanksgiving break and played it for well over an hour. She was complaining loudly about sore arms and torso the next day. (Her only exercise right now is walking long distances with a full backpack so her arms don't get a lot of exercise normally.) I have never been sore from playing the game, but I have worked up a bit of a sweat a few times and turned on the fan while we were playing.

I think it would be a great choice for your daughters.

I bit the bullet (because I really am a cheapskate!) and purchase a Wii because I LOVE me some Beatles and wanted Beatles Rockband. It is the best game ever. I love it so much!!! I don't play the drums, bass, or guitar, but my husband and brothers do and they love it too.

And the other day I got my first 100% on expert level. Woo hoo!!!

I highly recommend Rockband 2 and Beatles Rockband. Sooooo much fun!!!
