I'm probably going to cause confusion for changing the thread name, but I figured maybe a little change is needed to get things moving. If anyone wants to join in we'd love to have you!

Happy New Year!

I started this morning measuring myself & recording on the Cathe calendar. Total wake up call on the weight (gained 4 pounds last month), but my waist and hip measurements are still down so I'm very happy about that. My right thigh is a full inch larger than the left, while my left bicep is a half inch larger than the right. Today was STS D22 (I managed 6 pushups on my toes!) and the first premix from Tabatacize. Wow, that core routine was super difficult, I couldn't even do the banana thingies! My resolution for this year is to get my waist size down to 32", that will require 2.25" reduction. So I need to do a much better job of eating clean and I will be doing core work 3x per week. Wish me luck! I also logged into myfitnesspal today to get back to logging food.

Tina have you tried any more of the xtrain workouts? I was so tempted today to ditch STS for xtrain, but I restrained myself :) Are you in love with your new trainer?

Hello to everyone else! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season, would love to hear how you're all doing! :)

Thanks for starting a new thread Sue, I'll follow you anywhere! : ) Happy New Year! Loving your motivation. I do not dare to even pass by a scale. I'm giving myself one week and will weigh in on Monday. Keep sticking to your STS guns, you are so close now. My first time through, I thought about stopping after Meso 2, and I posted my thoughts and Cathe (gulp) actually responded and asked me to finish the program as intended. I'm so happy I did, made me a total believer in heavy weights. I have three weeks left, and can't wait to have three STS rounds done in one year.

I'm really enjoying the new trainer and have done five spin workouts since Thursday. DH has had some time off, so we've been working out together. I'm dying to try some other Xtrain cardio's, so I'm sort of happy he's back to work tomorrow. I'm planning on STS plyo legs, followed by Xtrain Legs premix #6 in the morning.

I still haven't buckled down on the food intake, we're still trying to finish up New Year's left overs. I'm looking forward to getting back to some structure. One thing I have started today is a positive jar. I saw it suggested somewhere on the internet and loved the idea. Everyday you write down something good (positive, funny, enlightening) that happened. My cookie jar no longer holds cookies. : )

Foolishly I added on the full Xtrain Legs + barre work, after STS plyo legs. DH and I did Yoga Relax tonight, because it is WAY too cold to walk outside. I fell asleep watching a movie and just came downstairs to power down the house and OMG the DOMS, ouchiewaawaa. At least I stopped at 40 on the 100 rep hip thrust challenge. I hope I can walk in the morning!

How are your Xtrain workouts going Sue? What's been your favorite so far?

Wow Tina! I think your legs will thank you for the yoga relax after those workouts! I definitely want to hear how you feel tomorrow. How was your eating today?

Back to work for me today and I procrastinated on working out until after 9pm, so just went for a 3 mile walk with my tunes. I didn't want to get too riled up before bedtime. I've only tried Tabatacize and hard strikes (because they're short), Tabatacize wins so far but they both are great workouts. I will try low impact hiit over the weekend, I have a feeling I'll like that one too. Two days in a row for me eating within plan :)

More tomorrow, I have to hit the sack!

Hey Tina I think I forgot to tell you I think that positive jar idea is great! I may steal it, what a great use for a cookie jar :) I hope you took a rest day today, seems like your legs would have needed it!

I just re-read my original post in this thread & I mistyped my waistline goal, I'm shooting for 30" waist, it's 32.25 right now. I watch a lot of Dr. Oz and one thing he keeps mentioning is that your waist measurement should be less than half your height to avoid an increase risk of heart disease, etc. I'm usually pretty squeamish when it comes to blood/body stuff, but I can watch him lay out a large piece of visceral fat and explain how bad it is for your body. So that's the back story on my waist goal. Of course it would be nice to have a better figure - I'm pretty flat-chested so I really should be flat-bellied too :)

So today's workout was D23, legs. Yup, my knee complained. This time on the 2nd exercise (wall squats). Never had problems with squats before so I started to freak out a little (and the lazy girl in me thought about giving up). I proceeded gingerly, did not use any weights on the wall squats, and went a little more shallow. For the rest of the workout I paid strict attention to my form and had discomfort throughout but no more pain.

3rd day eating on plan :) Let's see how long I can go without breaking that chain!

Have a good night/morning!

Sue, great job sticking it out with STS legs. You're more than 2/3 through the program! : ) I am going to start measuring next week. I haven't done that in years. I wish I did before I started STS. I lost 7 pounds from it, but I think I lost more in inches (or so all my coats tell me). Congratulations on sticking to the eating plan. I've been adding in lots of fruits, but Monday the serious journaling starts, back to Myfitnesspal.

Yesterday I did Hard Strikes premix #2. It reminded me of Susan Chung's Rapid Fire III. Very similar format. This morning I'm doing M3D33 and All Out Hiit. Tomorrow is a scheduled day off.

I forgot to mention, while doing Yoga Relax the other night, DH and I were both getting horrible charlie horses. I can't imagine what it sounded like from upstairs. We are definitely getting old!

Hi Tina! How are xtrain workouts meshing w/ STS? I think the hard strikes premix you did includes weights, is it heavy weights or cardio intensity weights? I looked at my calendar and my last rest day was Friday so I made today a rest day as well. I woke up famished, it was hard to stick within calorie allotment, but I did it. I can see how people would overtrain, more workouts = more eats!

I wasn't finished!

when you get back on MFP look me up, I'm suethepooh over there too. You probably already know this, but Charlie horses mean you need more potassium. There's a line from It's a Wonderful Life, "Youth is wasted on the young!" - ain't that the truth!!!

This weekend will be STS back/bis and x-aoli, how did you like your workout today?

have a good weekend!

Sue, I wish I had your motivation for your nutrition plan. Great job sticking to it! I finally stood on the scale, I've gained 5 pounds in the last two months. (My smiley says confused, but I know how it got there) I will be looking you up on MFP this week, thanks for the invite. : )

I have the weekend off, which I didn't know about until last night, so I'm going to do a spin workout and then scrub my house for the rest of the day.

Thanks for the potassium tip. I'm going to add in some bananas this week.

Yesterday was M3D33, All Out Hiit and STS Yoga Abs. Your question on the conditioning portion of HS, I would call it more endurance/cardio based weight work. It hits each muscle group with a light weight just once.

What is x-aoli?

Tina I'm not motivated, I'm obstinate! I put my plan together and I'm sticking to it even if I hate every minute. Not quite, I know myself and I know I'll blow & start eating with abandon at some point. So I need to keep an eye out and schedule myself a high calorie day before that happens. My family had fast food & ice cream last night. I was dejected, but made myself pizza with garlic bread & mozzarella cheese. Not exactly "clean" but much better than fast food. I'm on track to stay within plan 5 days in a row... woot!

Today was D24, back & bis - last day of M2!!!! Plus XTrain All Out Low Impact HiiT (x-aoli was my cute attempt to abbreviate). I really wanted to like this one, and if my knee wasn't so wonky I probably would have. But on all lunge-type (there were a lot!) I had to go shallow, had tons of discomfort. I think next week I'll make myself a premix of all the exercises that don't bother my knee and give that a whirl. I really liked the running mans, those rocked & didn't bother me at all! My supermans were not-even-mildly-impressive-mans :)

You are rocking the STS! Just one week to go right? Are you going to take a rest week then start on XTrain, or go right into it? Congrats on getting on the scale, it is what it is. I think I'm going to focus more on tape measurements than on the scale. Of course I'll weigh myself but I won't tie my mood to that number :) I can't wait to see you on MFP! I'm really liking the app - especially the friends portion of if. Really helps to hold me accountable and stay w/in goals (so far).

Gotta run, tomorrow I think I'll do hard strikes all the way through!

Sue

Sue, nice job not caving to the junk food everyone else was eating. That's the hardest part for me, when sticking to a plan. If everyone else is eating cake, I want a slice too. I guess I never thought to ask, but do you have children? Love your "not-even-mildly-impressive-mans" comment! : )

One more week of STS. I will take a week off from lifting, and start the Xtrain 30 day+Ride rotation the following week. I'm working on a six month STS/Xtrain/Circuit undulating rotation that will go something like this:
Week 1: Circuits MWF
Week 2: Total Body Weight (like MM and ME) MWF
Week 3: STS M1Week1
Week 4: STS M2Week1
Week 5: STS M2Week1
Week 6: Cardio only
...and then repeat the cycle but change the STS to week 2 and keep repeating until the last week of STS. This should take 6 months. I'm still playing with it, and alot depends on how Xtrain works out, but I'd like to try STS from another angle. On alternate days of the rotation, I'll be adding one day of classic step, one kickbox or Hiit, and cycle on the weekend.

I'm also working on a menu plan, I'll look for you tomorrow. : )

Tina

Hi Tina! Your 6 month rotation looks intriguing and ambitious! Do you have a new cycling goal for this year? When you get on MFP you may see the sticky thread for beginners that tells you to eat your exercise calories. There were a lot of replies from some confused people, and I remember Melanie not being sure if she should eat her exercise calories. So I poked around in settings and found the usual "what's your activity level" question. it occurs to me that many people might consider their average exercise level when answering that question. But if you included your exercise in your activity level and also ate back your calories, you'd be double dipping and really slow down your weight loss (if not stall completely). Sorry if you already knew this, but I had to put on my thinking cap on this one!

Today I did the timesaver premix on hard strikes. I was going to do the whole workout but my muscles are a little tight from yesterday so I thought I'd give them an easier time. This is my 2nd time and I kept my gloves on the whole workout (only made it 20 min 1st time). I have the week off from STS and I don't have any workouts scheduled, I'll be flying by the seat of my pants! 6 days staying in my calorie limit :)

Woot Sue! Six days on plan is fantastic! I know when I stay on plan, I feel so much better. I usually love rest weeks, but this next one for me will be difficult. I'm so eager to try the Xtrain weight workouts. I might have to sneak Super Cuts in at the end of next week. I'll be heading over to MFP in the afternoon, I'll re-visit the activity level page.

I was off on my rotation plan, it will take 7 1/2 months to complete. I was really happy with my cycling miles last year, so I just want to end up at roughly the same milage as this past year. I don't enjoy riding on the roads by myself any longer, so I'll stick to the weekend rides with DH and the occassional night rides during the summer.

Yesterday I did Cardio Leg Blast with the added core premix. This went to the top of my favorites pile. It kicked my butt, but was so much fun. Have you done this one yet?

Hi Tina, I'm going to do cardio leg blast tomorrow for the first time, wish me luck :). I think I'll have then done all the xtrain cardio. Today was the 1st tabata and yoga relax. I'm impressed with everyone who can jump in and do all the tabatas, they're rough! I stayed on plan today but it took some renegotiating, and I had to skip my bedtime cocoa. I know you're not supposed to drink your calories, but it's the only chocolate in my life (protein powder DOES NOT count!), I look forward to it all day and it's only 110 calories. Other than alcohol (which I'm not including in my diet right now), cocoa is the only calorie drink I have. It's all black coffee, unsweetened tea and water. Nice justifying huh? :)

How was your day? It's Monday so probably STS + extra cardio? Any progress on your mealplan? I only plan dinners in advance right now. After looking at my macros and micros for the past week though I will need to put some forethought into the other meals.

Sue

Sue, sorry I haven't gotten over to MFP. I need a full hour to do it, and I haven't had a free slot yet. (Plus yesterday we made chocolate covered pretzels, and MFP probably doesn't count that high) Great job on the plain tea and coffee. I have to drink my coffee as a light blond, no murky skim milk even. I use Land O Lakes low fat half and half, yummy! I do limit it to two tablespoons a day. When I gave up cranapple juice last year, and went to only water, I lost weight pretty quickly. I'm not ready to give up my coffee.
One of my favorite desserts is a hot cocoa and an orange. They go really well together.

Yesterday was STS M3D34 and stability ball abs. Then I gorged on choc. pretzels last night and felt the need to burn some calories, so I did Tabatacise. Loved it, but I won't do it right before bed next time, I had a hard time getting to sleep (ya, I'm sure it wasn't all the chocolate). This morning I did Ride, still loving it!

Only two more discs left!! I hope you have a great day. : )

Edit to add: remember my cookie jar idea? I found a slip of paper from DD in there this morning that reads, "mom forgets to write in her jar, AKA the New Year's resolution". Now there are two slips of paper in there. : /

Hi Tina, no worries on MFP, it's a bit of a time commitment and an extra distraction. I'm going to stick with it because it seems to be keeping me honest. And the nutrition reporting is better than the app I was using before. Did you make homemade pretzels and put chocolate on that, or store-bought? I use a soft pretzel recipe that tastes just like mall pretzels, I'll send you the link if you're interested. Oh wait, maybe that's the wrong kind of encouragement? I realized today that I lied about the sugary drinks, I have the occasional glass of cranberry juice (no sugar/HFC added). When I used creamer in my coffee it was full sugar, full fat. That was the first thing to go when I first started modifying my diet, it accounted for an extra 250 calories every day! okay, I'm making myself hungry, gotta stop :)

Nice job on the STS, tabata & ride! Your daughter seems spunky :) I can imagine you two writing notes to one another in the jar :)

I never got around to working out today (but still hit goal - yeah!), so I'll have to report on xtrain cardio leg blast tomorrow.

g'night!

Hi Sue, I tried to find you over at MFP, but I'm not sure how to do it. It asks for an email address. I'm Fembot40 over there too, so if you can find me, that would be awesome. I couldn't for the life of me find where I can change my sugar limits, cause I was over the limit after my morning oatmeal, and that is enough to scare me away.

Today was my last STS leg workout. Getting pumped for the last disc, I can see Xtrain on the horizon. I hope you liked Cardio Leg Blast. I think it's my favorite so far that I've tried from the Xtrain set, so much fun!

DH has the flu, so I'm off to go deal with the "man cold". Wish me luck.

Hi Tina! What did you write in the cookie jar today? he he he :)

I sent you a friend request on MFP - their user interface is not the greatest, I was confused at first on how to enter friends. You can enter a username in the email address field. The iPhone app has links that are really small and hard to hit, it's a bit frustrating. I'm not completely versed on how the limits work, but I think the sugar limit is automatically calculated based on your carbs. To tell the truth I ignore the sugar limit, I think it's too low, I exceed it every day. I tried changing my macros but I must have done something wrong because the change didn't stick. I'm concentrating on being slightly under calories each day while having energy all day long and not being hungry all the time. After I have calories conquered I'll worry about macro ratios and micronutrients. I'm totally in "one thing at a time" mode.

I bet you'll be having some separate anxiety from STS! I'm itching to get going on M3. Initially I didn't love cardio leg blast today (cardio only premix). I kept thinking I like tabata better, then right about the 9th round something clicked and I started loving it. maybe all the sweat. So Tabata & leg blast are tied for my favorite right now, followed closely by hard strikes with hiit being a distant last place. I'll be trying the hiit workout again but if I keep having knee discomfort I'll have to dump it.

You get to be a hero while your hubby's sick, enjoy it!

More tomorrow :)

Hi Sue, do you have a rest week coming up too? I'm really getting excited to start the Xtrain weight work. One more STS disc, woot! Today I did an old steady state 60 minute step workout. Last night, after DH feel into his Nyquil stupor, I hustled downstairs and squeezed in Xtaolih (is that how you put it last time?) to burn off a few extra calories. I'm planning a day off on Saturday, and we may possibly get outside on Sunday for a bike ride. The weatherman said possibly 50 by then. : )

Just a word of warning about STS Meso 3. A few of us on this board have noticed that for whatever reason, M3 seems to increase the appetite. I'm sure it doesn't happen to everyone, but there are a few of us that have noticed a BIG increase. I guess that's why I'm not too eager to log into MFP right now. I know now that it's very temporary, and I'll be back to better eating next week.

I miss not being able to look back a the last few post, while typing a reply. There are now three pieces of paper in my jar, the latest says "my daughter cracks me up everyday".

I'll check in with you tomorrow. Have a great one! : )

Tina

Hi Tina! I'm on a rest week right now... back to STS on Sunday, can't wait. I tried to go back to an old workout yesterday and couldn't do it. I did hard strikes cardio only. Today I'm going to blend up the step only sections of tabatacize and do that. Have fun on your day off! Isn't the weather wonky? I hope it works out for your ride - tell hubby to get well so you can go :)

Thank you for the info on M3 & hunger. I'll be sure to have low calorie high fiber options on hand. TBH, if it's a choice between losing weight and not being hungry, i choose not being hungry. For me hungry is just a tiptoe away from angry. Tell me how your hunger levels are when you start the XTrain rotation. It's so nice being a beat behind you - I can't even express how helpful your STS tips have been :)

I haven't noticed a change in forum software - what device/browser are you using? If I scroll down past "additional options" I can see the last few posts.

I gotta get back to my to do list... check in tonight tomorrow!
