Exercise Mats

normandy

Cathlete
When I do Cathe's dumbbell chest presses, flyes, etc., have been using bed or towel on floor and just got inexpensive mat that isn't too padded and isn't that great. The thick ones I saw at Sports Authority are $79, and I was wondering if anyone knows a place to get a good padded mat (4' to 5' long is sufficient) at a good price? (Maybe this isn't the right forum to ask this?)

Thanks for any help.

Hi Normandy,

I have a 1/2 inch thick dense foam or maybe it's rubber mat by Harbinger. It feels like one of those sticky yoga mats but it's a lot thicker. I remember I didn't pay more than $20 bucks for it maybe $18 or so BUT I'm not sure where I got it. :-(

I do remember it was one of the major chain stores like Modell's or maybe even sports authority. I've had it for a few years. It could have even been Wal Mart or Target. Anyway the mat is about 5 feet long and it rolls up and secures with 2 web straps that have velcro on them and HARBINGER is printed in big gold letters across the top.

Hi Normany,

I got a really nice thick mat from Dick's Sporting Goods and I think I paid around $35-40 for it. They had a cheaper one at about $20, but I liked this one better because it was longer (just under 6') and MUCH thicker. It also has straps attached so you can roll it up and velcro it together when you're done using it - I love it and wouldn't trade it at all for a thinner sticky mat!

Just saw online a Harbinger 2" thick, 2' by 5' vinyl mat that folds, at Fitness Wholesale, and it's $37 compared to over $69 or more at Sports Authority. Will probably end up ordering that. Just want to make sure first that I'm going to follow through with Cathe's weight-lifting tape and two others I have. In the morning I get on my treadmill, and at night I keep getting on these forums!!!!!!

Thanks to all.

Hi Normandy

I got mine at Target on sale from $25 to $20. It is around 6 feet long, black and fold up. It is great. If there is not a Target near you, check online.

Good luck.

SPRI products carries some good mats. I've lost their web address: hopefully someone else can help here. I got their cheapie ($12, I think) It is very basic and not very long (probably 4 ft) It is enough for me. (I actually like it quite a lot) -joy

Hi, Nancy -- Did you say "IF Not a Target near me?" I practically live at that store. I'm around the corner from the huge Aventura Mall, but go there aboout twice a year, and practically live at Target. The checkout guy there said I ought to put on a red shirt and make some money since I'm there so much!

Anyhow, thanks, I'll look there again -- the stock was really low the other night.
