Excited about the beginner DVD

I know this sounds funny coming from a seasoned exerciser, but I am really looking forward to the beginner DVD! I'm in good shape, but have always been choreographically challenged, or maybe just too impatient to learn a step routine. Although I own almost every Cathe strength workout, I do all my cardio at the gym on machines.

I was really excited today when I read Cathe's post which said that the beginner step workout will be for beginning STEPPERS, not beginning exercisers. If I can learn the routine after 2 or 3 times, maybe I'll be encouraged, learn the moves that Cathe uses, and may someday be able to do some of the other Cathe step workouts! Many of you have extolled to me the virtues of IMAX and IMAX2, and Step Blast looks like a Blast! Okay, I'm getting ahead of myself here...

I'm thinking that although my apartment is way too hot in the winter with all the heat, maybe by the summer, when the DVD actually comes out, I'll be able to do cardio at home if I blast all the A/Cs....

For those who don't have basements, how do you make your home cool enough to do cardio?

I'm really getting excited here!!:D

Hi, Nancy! I am excited too! I look forward to a workout that is more broken down because although I too am well seasoned :). I have had such foot troubles that I want more moderate workouts. Who would have thunk that could ever happen? LOL!

Summer in Tucson is tough so I work out in the wee hours and we do blast that AC. I don't think I have ever been in a house with a basement here in the Southwest. I hate the dry, heated air of winter but it's easy enough to turn if off for workout time and we tend to leave the house at about 65 degrees overnight since we can now expect temps in the 70's by afternoon. Heat can be optional all winter although this one's been cooler than past winters but cannot compare to the temps my family in Michigan has experienced! Such a bitter winter!

I hope that when Cathe's next series comes out, she has mercy on aging, injured boomers and gives us a low impact, high intensity workout! In the meantime, I hope, the beginner intermediate workouts can be done as such!

I'm excited because I'm choreographically challenged too. I've always used a treadmill or bike for cardio. I can just zone out that way but still get a good workout. And I'm a "good dancer"! Took ballet and tap into my thirties! I tried some of Cathe's later step stuff and laughed until I fell on the floor. Starting "from the beginning" is very exciting. Now, if I can't get THOSE steps, then I'll just attribute it to old age and senility. Alexis;-)

I am also choreographically challenged although I have mastered most of Cathe's workouts. Cannot do Rhythmic Step though. I have no rhythm and I can't dance worth beans although, I will. It isn't pretty though! I remember when I started with the Cathe workouts, any move that had her back to me would confound me! Thank heaven, that once you can, you can! Still, I cannot do Rhytmic Step and All Step from CTX. No fun for me at all!

Alexis-
That is so funny that you mention that, because I'm a pretty good dancer too, and have lots of rythmn, but can't learn a step routine. Learning a routine must take a different part of the brain or something. When we get the DVDs, we're going to have to be very patient with ourselves. But we can do it!! :D

Bobbi-
How hot does it get in Tucson in the summer? I haven't been to Arizona yet (I hope to get there soon), but I always thought the weather was pretty great. I guess it gets hot but without the famous humidity we have here in New York? As an aging, injured boomer I'm totally with you on the low impact!

It's usually goes over the "century mark" in May, that is we hit the hundreds, but it varies. It can get as hot as 110 or 112 but that's usually the exception and not the rule. Phoenix is hotter than Tucson by at least 5 degrees. And you are absolutely right, the low humidity makes it much more tolerable. I was in Michigan one summer and it was in the nineties and it was terrible. Late in July and into August it does get muggy when the rainy season hits and we hope for lots of storms and rain. We use an evaporative cooler, or swamp cooler until the monsoon hits, which is just a type of cooling device which pumps moisture into the house. Works great while it's so dry. Once it's humid, it's AC though and my electric bill sky rockets. Our winters are wonderful but those summers are tough! I still think a Michigan winter is harder to take though! I've been here for 17 years so I haven't experienced it in a long time but somehow, it's easier to deal with heat than cold, I think. We go out early or late and avoid the mid-day sun, hit the pool or the mall and I drink enough water to put a camel to shame, LOL! We have had a chilly, wet winter which is really beautiful although I am ashamed to say I am always cold! You can tell the folks who come out from back East and the ones who've been here for awhile. Newbies always wear short sleeves and can't get enough of this weather! The desert is really gorgeous though. I do miss trees and greeness but that's why I go visit my mom every July! And if you are an early riser like myself, exercising is breezy all year long and that's a big plus!

It's definitley worth a visit and if you are ever in Tucson, look me up! I'll take you out for some really great Mexican food! :)

Nancy,
I usually turn on a big fan blowing right at me, and open a sliding glass door that I have in the room I exercise in. It opens to the outside.

Also, since I am a morning exerciser, it is close to the coolest part of the day when I exercise. That is a plus in the summer!
