Hello All!

Recently I find myself reading up a lot on the differences between strength and endurance training. Please chime in and help me understand.

If I am working a muscle to complete failure during an endurance workout like CTX Upper Body for example, am I causing hypertrophy in my muscles? In other words, if I am lifting a weight that is heavy enough to challenge me, while keeping with Cathe's rep speed and fail completely by my last rep, have I caused the micro tears in my muscles to encourage muscle growth?

Thanks! I look forward to your insights :)

If you are working to failure with ANY of Cathe's weight workouts, you will be encouraging muscle growth.

The following link gives a lot of really great information on hypertrophy specific training...

If you are looking for a rotation that will encourage hypertrophy, try Marlene123's Tank Top Rotation--found on the public rotations drop down on this link...

I've used it to build really nice arms & lift my butt!

Oh, one more really great site for information...

Thank you! That helps a lot :)

I have another question along the same lines. During an endurance workout, should your goal be to gradually increase your weight so that you can lift heavier and heavier over time with the same rep speed? Is it safe to do so? I know that in strength workouts like S&H the reps are slow enough for one to be able to gradually increase the weight load but does that also apply to endurance workouts?

Thanks again ;-)

Yes, the same principles apply to both endurance & strength workouts. You want to increase your weight when you feel strong or when the workout is no longer challenging.

So what about non-weight bearing workouts? Specifically, I'm thinking of those plyo-jacks (interval 9) in IMAX2 or ice breakers in BC that have my quads frying up...
