EMS Ab Machines

Hi All,
Please bear with me if this topic has been discussed before, but I am looking for some up-to-date info!!
I am currently 4 months pregnant with my first (due 20th January and can't wait!!). My question is this:
I'd really like to give my abs all the help they can get after the birth and wondered if any of you have any experience of using one of those ab machines - you know, the ones which you stick to your stomach and it sends an electrical current to contract the muscles?
For those of you who have (or haven't) had children, has it helped to tone up this troublesome area? If so, to what degree?
I have always been an avid exerciser (not so much since becoming pregnant due to tiredness/sickness, etc!!), so, for me, exercise will remain an important, positive and enjoyable part of my life. However, if one of these devices will help to whip my (no doubt!) blancmangey stomach muscles back into shape after the birth, I would certainly value the extra help!
Many thanks for any advice!
Kaz.

I don't have one, but I think those 'machines' do not work! Anything that is too good to be true must be... I think they are rip-offs.

I agree with Haslina. There have been a couple of news reports and shows on T.V. about them saying they do NOT work. Just thought I'd pass that on. You'll probably be surprise how well you'll whip back into shape once you get back to your normal routine since exercise will always be an important part of your life.(GOOD for YOU!) I would not waste your money. Just my opinion.

Hi Kaz,

I came across this post while searching through the archives, strangely enough for abs ! And I though I would add my 2 cents for you.
When I tained as a Beauty Therapist this happened to be one of the electrical body treatments we were taught (only the machines are much bigger in the salons). They basically are known as Foradic, whereby the muscles are sent electrical impulses to passively contract and relax. Whereas in exercise you consciously work your muscles. These machines can work. But ( and there is always a but !) only if it is combined with cardio, a clean low fat diet, and physical ab work, they are not miracle machines. I think also you wouldn't be allowed to use the machine until you had your all clear by your midwife.
IMO, stick to your workouts and a clean diet, because you will get much more positive results, and blow the money you would of spent on the machine, on some nice outfits !

Thanks Anna
