EMBARASSING HEALTH QUESTION

This is a little embarassing to ask, but I've been a little concerned. I've noticed that for the last couple of months about 2 weeks before I get my period and then the first few days after I get it I have alot of gas.

No matter what over the counter medications I take or how I eat, it doesn't seem to help. I really didn't have this problem until recently. First it was on and off and now it's almost always every period I have.

I work in a small area and I'm afraid of offending my co-workers. :(

Has anyone experienced this at all? I feel like it's only happening to me. x(

Do you get constipated before your period? If you do--I sure do, than I know that can cause gassiness. I take acidophilus-quite sure I spelled that word wrong, sorry!
But it helps keep your intestinal tract, on "track" so to speak. :) Oh, and so does milk thistle, it is primarily used for liver health, but I have noticed it really helps keep you regular (in a good way.)

No gas, but I get the upset stomach on day one or two, too. It's just enough to make me feel a litte queasy, but never sick. I do notice that after my period starts I have some intestinal discomfort, especially toward the end.

In the past I have experienced very painful gas before my period. This happened about 3 years ago. I had it for 4 months in a row but it came a week or so before my period. It was extremely painful. At first I thought it was my appendix because it was so painful and for a day or so afterwards my stomach hurt. I experienced it for about 4 months and then it just stopped. The last couple of times it happened I took Gas-X and that seemed to do the trick. I haven't experienced it since. It was very weird but since I'm in my 40's I chalked it up to pre-menopause symptons.

RE: EMBARRASSING HEALTH QUESTION

I've had this happen before and my doctor found a black cyst on my ovary. They just watched it and eventually it went away on its own, along with the other issue. I'd have it checked if it continues over the next few months. Better safe than sorry.

Do you have IBS? Women with IBS tend to have more problems during the second half of their cycle and also during their period.

Thanks to everyone for their help. I did have IBS diagnosed quite a few years ago, and I do think it may be related, as I've read the same thing. I made an appointment with a GI doctor.

The only bad thing is one of my co-workers made a remark that they smelled something "funny" in the office and then looked right at mex(

Hopefully, the doctor will be able to help me.

Thanks again.

I don't get any more 'gassy' than I usually am (due to clean eating), but I do, however, get looser stool 1-2 days before I start.

I tend to get a bit "stopped up" then gassy then everything goes back to normal. Mine's kinda a bloaty - gassy where it won't come out on its own. Tends to take some movement or exercise/ab work. Gross, I know. Its why I w/o alone, esp at that time of the month. Plus my office can be very open and sometimes unprofessional, esp when there are no customers around. So if someone belches or toots we have a chuckle and move on. Your ears would burn if you could hear some of the conversations we have in there. If no one from corporate is there or no customers are around, pretty much anything goes.

Eating clean can sometimes make me a little gassy!!!!! :)

I won't stop eating my greens and veggies and fruits though, even if I do get a little stinky from time to time!

ha ha!

This is a worse case possiblity, so please don't get scared.

Please, please, please see your GYN and tell her/him about this gas problem.

A feeling of abdominal fullness and gas can be an early warning of ovarian cancer.

I am not trying to scare you, but I'd have it checked out just in case.

Ovarian cancer???

Never heard of gas being a symptom!

Interesting!

For me, I notice certain foods make me gassy. I know what can trigger it. I think this is important to recognize as a person.

I have IBS also and find taking a scoop full of citrucel every morning has helped me enormously. I took a class at a hospital recently and the gastroentolgist recommended citrucel and phasyne (spelling) or gas-x in the morning. She also used beano for gassy foods like beans. I keep pepto-bismal tablets in my purse which eliminates the "funny" smell. Increasing your fiber intake and drinking plenty of water will help. I also take acidopholus every day. You might find it helpful to keep a food journal to see what food triggers gas and bloating.
Hope you feel better!
