Well boo hoo! I went to the Octane website and did a search for a local retailer only to discover there are none in my area. That effectively rules out the Octane for me because I don't have a way to even try one out. It seems every road leads back to the Precor--lol!
My DH also prefers the treadmill but I don't like them at all. If you want to punish me for some reason, just put me on a treadmill with no way to get off--lol! For someone like me who truly hates to do cardio, I need a machine that has a fun factor. I've always used Precor ellipticals in the gym and really liked them.
I wish I knew more about the arc trainers. I was on one for about 3 minutes at the store and it seemed all right--it had a smooth, even glide. It seemed more like a ski machine than an elliptical, though. I guess what I like about the elliptical is that you can go bacwards and work a different set of muscles which helps to break the monotony. I know some people feel they don't get a good cardio workout on the elliptical but I always did. Maybe that's because cardio is not my strongsuit so it doesn't take as much for me to get a good workout. I would sure be disappointed if I spent a lot of money on a cross training machine and I didn't get a good workout from it.
I really appreciate all the input I've gotten. It's truly been a big help.
