Effective Pimple Treatment

Hi All,

I wanted to post this question here b/c I know all of you give the best advice My 12 yr old son started getting some breakouts on his forehead a few months ago. I've gotten him a couple different OTC pimple creams and they may be helping a little, but not much. He is so embarrassed, especially when he is going to be in a social situation. I'm going to call and make an appt w/ my dermatologist today but it takes weeks to get in to see them. Is there anything out there that is just a great product? I've looked into Proactive but saw lots of negative reviews, so probably won't go that route.

This is something that we have been battling for over 5 years with my 18-year-old daughter. She has had severe acne since around 14 years old. We've tried every OTC item (nothing was effective). We tried Proactive (nothing). We went to the dermatologist several times over the past few years and he would put her on antibiotics and prescribe creams -- sometimes they worked for a while, but not for long. We were about to put my daughter on the pill (which is what the dermatologist said would have been one of the last things to do -- I didn't want to of course!), but before doing so he prescribed another antibiotic that so far has cleared up her face almost entirely (she's been using it for about six months now). The scars from her previous acne has finally cleared up. Maybe your dermatologist can prescribe a good antibiotic. You may have to go through a few before you find the perfect one, but we're really excited right now that her face has been clear for so long. My daughter is not home right now and she has the prescription with her, so I can't remember the name. But I will try and remember and pass it on to you.

Good luck because at your son's age, things like this really affect their self-esteem, etc. My daughter got extremely depressed when nothing was working. But keep trying and hopefully you will find something that works!

Acne.org - Acne treatment and community is a great website. It was started by a guy who had a tough case of acne himself, and developed his own treatment for it. He sells his own products, at a pretty reasonable price, but his site also includes reviews for many other OTC products as well. Since I had my son, my face has cleared up, but I found his method helpful before that.

Just remember, most acne treatments need to be used at least a month before you see results. (Think of it as a skincare "rotation" )

have you tried shifting his diet? so many of my daughter's friends have pimples but not her (yet).

when i was in my 20's i dated a young man (whom I'd known throughout high school) who had acne for years. so did his brother. when he discovered food combining around the age of 22, and applied its principles - his acne cleared up for the first time in years - and pretty much overnight. food combining, the hay system, however you want to call it - you can google it or get a book on. i wish you luck. it's sad when our kids are upset. i hope you can help him.
