Ebay RANT!!!! LONG

My DS wants a certain toy for Christmas, and everytime I am out shopping the shelves (yes shelves) of it are empty. It's a simple but apparently popular little toy for a 7 year old. So I saw Toys R Us ad and went at 7 am for the sale. Get there an you can only purchase 2 of the pieces!!! I ask the guy, "What's up with this" and he says, "Well all the ebayers buy them up the 1st day and then there are none left" I say, DUDE, I am here in my PJ's at 7 am for a $6.00 toy set. I don't want 50 of them, just 4!!! :mad::mad:

Now, I tell my boys(other DS is 4)that Santa only brings what is age appropriate and not too expensive for his elves to make. So my 7 year old will realize that $6 is NOT expensive!!!! He and his brother are legally blind and have some other health issues, so I do really try to get them something special that they can use and SEE!!!! Just a little happiness. :)

So being the pushy bitch that I am,I say "Do you have the other pieces in the back? He reluctanly pulls out just what I am looking for and hands me 2, I said no I only need one. The little guy likes another toy set. So this VERY KIND Toys R us guy let me buy whatever I needed. Which was really not much. But I was sooooo happy

Anywhoo, my RANT is that why do the ebayers have to take toys from a little boy? Why take a $6 toy and make it $26 plus shipping?? Isn't that a little over the top. I know they want to make money too, but come on, it's for LITTLE KIDS!!!! Go scam your concert tickets and sports tickets and your Wii fit stuff and leave the little ones out of it. I personally am boycotting ANYTHING on ebay. What about the poor people that want 2 little $6 items. They need to pay $80 bucks to get it. That's bull shit. :mad::mad::mad:

So I asked the customer service rep and she said that they (the ebayers) know the 45 day rule and return things on the 45th day if it doesn't sell online. Which of course falls right after Christmas. I told her they should change their return policy And not take back 100 or 200 of the same items. She said they are trying to find a way to do that. Seriously, it's driving me crazy. I thought the manufacturer wasn't making enough to create the supply/demand thing, but that's NOT the case!!!

Mind you, I can afford to get them thru ebay, but I refuse to do it. No ^%$%^& way. That's greed and robbery in my opinion. I got what I could and DS will be very happy with that thanks to the wonderful guy in Toy's R Us.

But this left a very bad taste in my mouth. Very bad. And I'm too pissed off to even say the name of the toy in case any lurkers are here.

I'm going back tomorrow and buying what I can and donating it to a child who requested this toy from our poor family charity. So there ebay, you just lost some more!!! (The guy said to bring my receipt in the am and he will let me look thru some more).

That stinks. I got some great stuff through E-bay a few years back. Alot of my workout stuff, golf clubs, etc. all gently used and ligit. It seems that it's become a way to unload illegal bootlegs and extort $ for $6.00 toys lately. I've stopped shopping there. I got sick of the down right shadiness of the whole thing.

I realize there are legitimate sellers (and buyers) out there. I just ran into the slimeballs too many times.
 
In the past I have found some sweaters for the boys for Christmas etc, but now it's just gotten out of hand. I don't mind buying gently used things, especially for kids who outgrow them so fast but not brand new $6 toys.

I can totally relate and understand how this happens. When I was in college I used to love childrens book illustrations. I took courses in illustration and was introduced to a coloring course that focused on comic books and animation of all things. I had not read a comic book since I was a kid but realized that there was this huge following of grown adults who love the stuff. Well, what happens is that these adults that are into these comic books and toys, . . yes the toys that go with them surround the toys r us and toy stores like vultures buying up these things hoping that they will become highly collectable and worth money. What makes this so bad is that the kids that the toys were made for don't get the opportunity to get them because the adult fans that have the money buy them and sell them for more money than what they are worth. It makes me so sad. My son's birthday is tomorrow and he wanted a lego star wars set that I have searched high and low for but could not for the life of me find. No doubt a bunch of Star Wars collectors have beaten me to the punch. Then there was last year when my son wanted a Jurrasic Park truck from the movie. I ended up having to pay $75 for a used and old dinky truck from e-bay since I couldn't find it anywhere else. I love and I hate e-bay. I've been burned so much from buying stuff from there that only if I HAVE to have something do I even bid. As far as these people raiding the stores and robing children of their toys, . . for as long as there will be greed there will be someone out there finding a way to make a profit. Sad but true.
 
I have used eBay since 1999 and it seems like there has been so much deterioration since then. I was not aware of this type of problem, so thanks for the warning. I have always been as honest as possible, but due to bootleggers and whatnot, for the last few years it seems like it also unfairly reflects on the decent users. I now hesitate buying or selling at all.
 
How will they sell for $26 if they are only worth $6? I usually research prices before buying and only get something on ebay if its cheaper. Like gently used or something. and yeah for $6 you might as well get it local and not pay s/h.
That stinks you couldn't get it though. :(
 
They get $26 because they are impossible to find and some parents will pay it just to have it under the tree. That's how they got away with selling Wii Fit on some sites for over $500.

I went on to look and found that 108 products listed (of this toy) were all from the same seller. So he/she bought over 100 products from the local stores and now are re-selling them. I think it's awful

Ebay has become ridiculous over the years. So many times it's cheaper to get what you are looking for at Amazon or some other online place. It used to be that ebay was the place for good deals, and you can still get some things for a great price but now there are so many dealers and pros that it's hardly worth it.

I think that with e-bay you have to be very careful. Some sellers are totally legit; some not so. I just purchased a Hanna Montana Halloween costume for my daughter at a reasonable price. I really had to weed through quite a bit to find it. Some of these costumes were being offered for $90:confused: Are you kidding me? For a flimsy kid's costume worn once??? Yikes! I guess there are some desperate parents willing to pay that, and some unscrupulous sellers are banking on that.......
 
I was trying to buy a Wii Fit and finally a store that had them. While I was there purchasing mine, there was someone there with 10. I figured that person was going to put them on e-bay and was thinking that really should not allowed. I had to look, look and look to get mine because I did not want to wait until too close to Christmas otherwise I know I would not get it all. AND since I bought the Wii Fit so early, I ended up bringing it out on Thanksgiving (Canada) and the whole family enjoyed it.

I can't believe that they are doing this with $6.00 toys as well.
 
Ebay has some hard to find items, but it also has a ton of counterfeiters and people who milk buyers for shipping charges.
 
I know what you mean about the Wii Fit. I wanted on for so long and couldn't find it in any store. To make matters worse I live in a small town so Wal-Mart is the only place I can shop. I kept checking online stores (that's how I buy most of my things) but couldn't find it anywhere. I refused to pay double on ebay. I just kept checking back at Wal-Mart until I finally found it in stock. The really sad part is I've had it for over a month now and it's still sitting in it's box:) It is a terrible thing that people will buy up an item (toys especially) and sell it on ebay for double what it's worth.

What bothers me about eBay is if you are just an occasional shopper like me, you have virtually no chance of winning anything in an auction unless you have a sniping bid program on your computer.

And it's usually for items that have one low-ball bid from a bidder with a strange name like m***6t or something like that. Whenever I see any bizzare names like that bidding on something I might be interested in, I just totally forget about the item and try something else.

In fact whenever I (rarely) shop on eBay, I only shop for "Buy It Now" or "Make an Offer" auctions.
 
i just so sick of ebay anymore. with their lack of doing anything to stop counterfeits to things like this. we are getting creative with xmas this year. some small toys(probably can get most at ross or tj maxx extra cheap) but we want to decorate viola's room. my mom is good with ebay and never really had a problem but i just can't stand it. i go through amazon sellers or something first. on rare occasions if i have to use ebay i get my mom to do it b/c she is good at bidding and never had an issue. usually its for when we are finding viola that hard to find care bear character LOL.
