Easy Cathe?

Antonym!

Just don't see those 2 words - easy & Cathe - in the same sentence. Sorry to be a smarty. I gave my sister the much recommended Wedding Tape as a starter. But I believe there are some other step tapes that are good intro's to Cathe. I don't do much stepping, but I'm sure someone else will recommend a few Cathe starter tapes.

Cathe's tapes are usually divided into three sections each one getting progressively harder. So I would start by getting a couple of her tapes such as Step Heat, Step Max, Mega Step Blast, or the Wedding tape and just doing one or two sections, because the third section is always a killer. You could even combine the first section of all three tapes. You will get an excellent workout this way and then when you're ready, you can complete an entire tape.

RE: I started with Step Jam!

I hadn't done step in many years and didn't have too much trouble catching on. I think Cathe spends a good amount of time introducing/teaching each section, I probably only had to pause/rewind once in the second section.

The wedding video is a great one too.

HTH!

RE: I started with Step Jam!

I've been working out for a long time now and I wanted to try some Cathe videos. So I bought MIC, Body Max, and Interal Max. But after reviewing them, I don't think I'll make it through them!! I was just looking for some different tapes to ease up to those harder ones that I already bought!

SOOOO, given: Step Jam, Step Heat, Step Max, Mega Step Blast, or the Wedding Video what would you say is a good Cathe video for an intermediate to start with?

RE: I started with Step Jam!

I really like Step Heat. I just got it a few weeks ago and it is the only Cathe step video I own, so I can't make a comparison to her others.

I nearly got it the first time through, which was a surprise! I am a little older, as the number after my name says, so I really didn't want to strain anything and stop me from trying to get fit.

Others talk about how intense Cathe's tapes are, and it has put a caution in me to stay away from them, but Step Heat is so much fun and her cueing is so good, you'll have a great time I'm sure.

If I can do it, I know you can do it! Just keep having fun with it.

Hi Daffy,

There isn't really an easy Cathe tape, however, with some modifications, even an intermediate exerciser (like myself) can do them. Since I tend to suffer from back pain and sore knees, I choose not to do anything hi impact. I switch every move to a low impact one, no jumping, and it is still intense enough for me. I have also used a 4" step since anything higher causes my knees to feel sore afterwords. I'd rather lower the step and be able to do the whole workout (or most of it) than to have to stop in the middle because the intensity is too high. The bottom line is that even the hardest tapes that Cathe has can be adjusted to your level and your needs.
It works for me !!! I have been doing Cathe's tapes for the past few months between 2-3 times a week - and I am NOT an advance exerciser !
Good luck !

those were my first tapes too, Daffy!

Well, second, third and fourth Cathe tapes. Previous to that I had been using Kathy Smith, Karen Voight, and some Firms. Needless to say, acquiring MIS, MIC, Body Max, and Interval Max blew me away.

While I think it would still be great to get some of her older step tapes (I'm still slowly acquiring these), I don't really think you need to wait to start using the ones you have. Just don't do them all the way, and don't feel like you have to do the moves exactly the way Cathe and crew do!

It took me a while to work up to doing Body Max all the way thru. When I was starting out, I'd only do the step one day, then the circuit and UB the next, or even split it into three workouts. I've NEVER done MIC yet in its entirety. I did do IMAX all the way thru the first time with modifications, but really, you don't even have to do all the intervals when you're starting out.

One thing that's nice about these tapes is that the choreography is less complex and less dancy/more athletic than some of her other tapes. So they're still a good intro to her style.

Anyway - don't be afraid to use the tapes in the way that suits YOU best. Modify to lessen impact or intensity if you need to, maintain good form, and enjoy yourself. There are no video police around to insist you do it all the way thru the first time!

take care,
Sophie
