Early pregnancy spotting

I have not posted a question here before but I am hoping someone can give me some feedback. I am 35 years old. I am 7 weeks pregnant with my second child. My first child is 9 years old so it has been a long time for me since I was pregnant. I had some spotting 2 weeks ago for a couple of days along with some cramping, so they did an ultrasound and everything was okay. That went away. Now I have it again. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it something to worry about? I was piling wood a couple of days ago, quite heavy 2 1/2 feet to 3 feet long logs. I was careful though. Maybe that is connected. I don't want to worry my husband about this so I don't want to make a fuss, but I am a little worried. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I was about 6-7wks when I had some slight spotting that quickly went away by week 8.I STRONGLY recommend that you get some help with the wood,I think it is making it worse.Take care and good luck

I have no desire to alarm you as spotting can mean many perfectly natural things early in pregnancy. However, I STRONGLY encourage you to contact your doctor. There are many questions that they can ask you to help determine what is going on. How frequently are you spotting? What color is it? Are you cramping? How consistent is it(do you spot one time and then have nothing else or are you spotting on consecutive days)? All of your answers to these questions will help your doctor determine why this is happening.

I realize it is the weekend so it is your determination whether you feel the need to have your doctor paged or not.

Please know that spotting can be/is often perfectly normal early in pregnancy but your doctor should ALWAYS be notified of it happening.

HTH!:)

Hello there,

I would have to agree with Pippa. Although it could be nothing, I would contact my doctor immediately - if for no other reason than to (hopefully) have some peace of mind. My 2 miscarriages started the same way. If you are spotting red/pink call ASAP, especially if you are having any cramping. Brown, or darker colors suggest it is old blood - which could mean it is old - but again, you won't be able to interpret it on your own.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you ... hopefully, it is just some normal spotting and that's all!

Take care,

I concur with the other posters. Talk to your doctor. Most women who spot go on to have a normal pregnancy. When I was spotting at 7 weeks, I called my sister who has two healthy daughters, and she said she spotted with both pregnancies. I breathed relief. However, I did go on to miscarry at 13 weeks, and I think in retrospect the spotting may have been a precursor to it. That said, spotting is in most cases not a harbinger of trouble. As Pippa says, you want to talk with your doctor and take into consideration the color, frequency, duration, and intenstiy of the spotting and/or cramping. I'm praying for the health of your baby.

P.S. My friend had recently had cramping and spotting at 6 weeks, and she is now happily into her second trimester.

I spotted with both of my pregnacies as well, both turning out just fine. Around week 8 and then again around week 12. I definately agree with the others. Keep in touch with your doctor, especially if you do have cramping. My mid-wife said that some women spot and it is remnants of blood in there from your last period. I have never heard this before. I would spot brown for about 4 days in a row. Nothing heavy, just spotting, but I did wear a light pad. But it is natural to get concerned. I would definately take it easy though. No more lifting that wood!

I will be praying for you as well!

Thank you guys for all of your input. I did get the first round of spotting looked into with an ultrasound. Now this second set I will also have looked into and tell her what I have been up to with the wood and maybe I shouldn't be doing it. It is good to hear that some have had spotting and everything has turned out okay. I don't want to think about the other. Thanks guys!
