DVD sales...

I am Glad Hazlady has replied before me.

You're right you do not need to rely on wireless internet connection setting up to play downloads.

Thank you for mentioning black Friday. I will make my small list since I literally own the entire collection. Well what I need. I skipped STEP BOSS launch thinking it was a cardio set. There are interesting abs bonuses. Plus at some point I will do some of low impact step To keep variety in my rotations. I am a versatile individual, quite open . So yes will add these as downloads. I do not need Basic step and Body fusion therefore won't purchase it.

I am also visiting PERFECT 30 as a add on ....the flow one. Because I workout an hour, I am reaching out for premixes. HiiT are to be done for 30 minutes. IMHO.

I love Cathe's ab bonuses - so much variety. I used to dislike core work, but I don't mind it as much with Cathe, and some... I actually look forward to.

I remember a previous thread where you'd asked how to use that yoga workout. That sounds like a great way to use it!

Can you use firesticks where you are?
I looked into this a while ago along with other devices. At the time there wasn't a lot available down here in NZ and it was questionable as to whether or not they would work. They were also quite expensive. Using my laptop didn't cost me any extra as all I needed was an HDMI cable and my brother had a spare one. I know that the availability of streaming devices and supporting technology is much better here now, but I just never bothered to look into it again as the laptop works for me.

Braillie, I simply wanted to add that as Debinmi and FitSaxe mentioned the USB port on a DVD works great for downloads. Last fall, this great group of Cathletes taught me that trick.

During the black Friday sales, last year, I purchased a new DVD player for $50 and i also took advantage of Cathe's download sales at that time (and since). I could not get over how easy it was.

I still prefer DVDs; nevertheless, using the USB port on the DVD player is a great alternative.

Hello Deanna,

Do you plug your flash drives directly to the tv through a usb slot?
What file format AVI, MP4..... your tv recognise?

Few people on the forum mentioned plugging it to dvd players, not sure if it works though:)
Following various posts above, I would like to update on this topic regarding setting up to play downloads.

My current set up is: upload downloads onto a flashdrive after convertir mp4v files to an AVI files. I have to convert Cathe's download before uploading them because my tv does not read mp4v. This is what works for me and I do not intend to connect my android laptop to my workout space. I am aware of this option but it is just not convenient for me. I do not want to drag my laptop to my workout space on daily basis.

My flash drive is connected directly to my TV which is about 5 years old. it is probably not the best option to skip through chapters. For this reason I will look into setting up through my old dvd player and eventually replace it. Another option convenient in my view would be setting a tablet, flash drive and connecting my TV.

Hope someone who is already set up using android device chime in.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

$50? I paid more for mine than that a couple of decades ago. I had no idea you could get a DVD player for that. Mine is so old it doesn't have that USP port. Okay, this is going to sound stupid (lol), but USB port is where I stick a flashdrive, right? Like on my computer, but it's on the DVD player? If that's the case... I could do that. Money is tight, but I can save $50. I won't be able to buy as many downloads right away if I buy a player, but I've replaced my missing DVDs and will always prefer them, so I was only going to use downloads to add a bit a variety here and there anyways. So, the 3 from LMR2 (haven't done them yet) and a couple more would be plenty, because there will be more sales. :) If my nephew comes before then, I'm going to have him hook up the HDMI thing for awhile, because I have been just itching to do that 3rd bonus download (upper body split) and I know I'm going to be just as antsy about the 2nd half (I'm guessing that's what's coming next) of that. So excited! :)

I tried looking at the back of my TV, but I can't reach the DVD cord to disconnect my current player - the cords are tangled behind the heavy stand that everything is on, so I can't move the DVD player (it's on a shelf under the TV on the stand) forward to get the cord unhooked from that end either. Basically, the cords are tangled behind the stand, and when I try to get the TV off of it, it doesn't have enough cord loose to let me move it to the floor (stand isn't deep enough to just slide it forward). The stand is heavy and on carpet... so, I can't move it without help - it's trying to drag the carpet with it. My youngest nephew helped me set it all up, and I think the stand might be ON one of the cords. lol My oldest nephew is the one I'm hoping will help me. He's patient and will take his time in setting it up and explaining what he's doing and showing me how everything works.

Do all new DVD players have that USB thing, or do I need to look for one that specifically has one?

I don't even know what an mp4v or AVI file is. Uggggh! I've tried youtube videos, and I'm hopeless. lol I have a feeling I'm getting in over my head with this stuff, but I'm bound and determined to find a way to learn enough to make Cathe downloads show up on my TV, even if the frustration of trying to learn turns all of my hair grey. lol

Braillie, you are correct the USB port is where you insert the flash drive -- the same as on your computer. I would suspect , at this point, most all DVD players have USB ports; nevertheless when I purchased mine last year I specifically looked for one with the port.

@Braille , not all players have a USB port, so be sure to look for one with. Your TV is about the same age as mine. It also has a USB port but it does not play movie files (mp4v), only photos (jpeg). I understand many newer TVs now play mp4v from the USB port. So you might look at either. A 32 inch TV may cost about $80 during sales, while the player may be around $50. But that was before these dang tariffs, so could be considerably more now. (And dang those cords! Can be quite the nightmare lol.)

ETA: I think your plan to use your old laptop is a good one too. I'm thinking if I replace my current laptop this fall, (it can't update to Windows 11) I might do the same as you can download an app to play the new bonus workouts through and it will be chaptered with it. If Cathe stops dvd sales and does downloads only for new workouts, I'm assuming she'll still chapter the new workouts for the blender for On-Demand subscribers. That way I will still get chapter stops by using my laptop. Chaptering makes a big difference in my enjoyment of a workout. And the nice thing about using your old laptop is it won't cost you any money and you still get some use from it instead of giving it to Recycle.

Do Cathe's downloads have chapters if one does NOT have On Demand (that's the streaming thing, right?)? I read that her LMR2 bonuses were chaptered, but I was under the impression that the downloads she filmed with the live class weren't? If they are, that would make it so I'd use them a LOT more often. If moving through chapters is as quick on a laptop as it is with a remote... I'll love it!

I won't be buying a new TV, because mine is 55" and I'm too spoiled to go down in size and don't have the money to go up in price. lol I picked it up for $129 bucks a long time ago, because it was on clearance (last of the non-smart TVs I think). lol I forgot about the tariffs - VCRs aren't very big, though... wondering if stores have already stocked up on them for the Black Friday sales for this year? Maybe they'll still be cheap (fingers crossed).

Thanks for the reminder on Windows 11 - I forgot I have to figure out how to get that done on my newer old computer. lol

@Braille, this is the app for a Windows computer that was suggested to get chapters:
Thank you. I don't know much about apps, but this is where I might run into problems... the old laptop I was going to hook up is Windows 8.1. I'll have to look that up and see if the app will work on that old of a Windows version. It's a REALLY old computer. lol Still works too - just has broken hinges, so I can't ever shut/open it. lol

Thank you for all of your help. The laptop is Windows 10 and I keep getting pop-ups saying I need to update to 11 - I think by sometime in Oct. I do know how to do the updates myself (if it works on this old of a computer). I've been putting it off, because I heard some people's computers were messed up after they upgraded, and a messed up computer is not something I can fix, and I need it for my at-home job.

I really hope I don't need a new computer, because since I use it for work... I can't wait until Black Friday to upgrade it. So, it will wipe out whatever I manage to save for a DVD player and downloads. Uggggh!

But, at least if I do have to buy a new computer... I'd have this one that I could use to hook up to the TV so that I'd know the app would be compatible. So, even worse case scenario would have at least one positive aspect to it. :)

I was able to replace the DVDs that were missing from my collection with the recent sales Cathe had, but if she goes solely to downloads in the future... I do want to be set up for that. The no chapters in Cathe Lives is going to be a pain - Cathe has us spoiled. lol When they are on sale for only $5, though, they would be good for the variety. At full price... the no chapters thing would definitely make it not worth the money for me, though, because I definitely won't use them as much. BUT, maybe the no chapters thing will keep my spending under control. lol I REALLY had a hard time not purchasing some of them last time around. I don't even have a set-up yet to use them, but I wanted them anyways. lol

I have a feeling the next time I see my nephew will be Thanksgiving, so I'm sure he's going to really appreciate the long list of items I need help with on a holiday. lol I'm going to have to send ALL of the deserts home with him to make it up to him. lol

I've been using LMR quite a bit on my active recovery days, because I'm needing so much recovery time. I can see why you'd wait on LMR2 though until there is more info. Once I get my body where I want it... I'm hoping to go back to only 2 days a week of active recovery, and I use Tai Chi, Jessica or Cathe's yoga, and Classical Stretch/Essentrics for that. I'd be more interested in adding short mobility workouts to the end of a strength workout. I pre-purchased, because I know I'm at a place where I'll use a lot of it now, but as I get stronger... my needs and goals are going to change, so if it's a lot like the first LMR... it likely won't meet those needs anymore. I hope we start getting updates on it soon - I'm so curious as to what she has planned. I watched the bonuses on my computer, and I was really impressed. If LMR2 is anything like those... it might end up being used a lot more frequently in the future than what I'm predicting.

lol Still works too - just has broken hinges, so I can't ever shut/open it. lol
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
Lol I can not stop laughing cause I have an window vista computer (hinge problems --- I can not close it) I am refusing to part with and another Window 10 asking for window 11 updat. Well We have similar decisions to make lol.:D:eek:

I apologise if I confused you asking the question about file format mp4v and AVI. At this point if you only need to run cathe download on your computer just use VLC player. This has already suggested to you above. I confirm it is simple to use as previously advised by forum admin. I think you can at least do that.

What you can do later is ask your nephew to help setting up files in a flashdrive if you need one. From VLC you can convert file from mp4v to mp4, mov,AVI or mpeg . All the best.

ETA : If your TV has a USB port and you have a flashdrive, ask your nephew to convert cathe's file from mp4v to mp4. mp4 is one of the most popular video file format. To convert you can ask your nephew to look into VLC Player. I have just discovered vlc player has a convertion option. This is a free tool you can use without internet connection. There are other tools which I am not going to mention because they require fast internet connection. Converting a file on vlc require running the full video. It is a long tedious way of convertir a file but it is free.
