DVD sales...

I cannot help but notice all of the recent emails promoting DVD sales and I am wondering...is this the beginning of the end of DVDs for Cathe?
I am thinking it may be. Cathe was the last of my favorite instructors still making DVD's but from the first LMR release, I recall there were issues with the DVD's. Not Cathe's fault. Plus shipping out of the US has skyrocketed. Seems EVERYTHING is going to streaming. For me, that makes it harder because I don't have reliable internet. It disconnects a lot & buffers almost all the time, especially during peak hours (which is pretty much all day). I'm thinking I'll have to do thumb drives.

For us living outside US, DVD are no longer an option. My internet buffer is not better either. Download is the way to go for me. I am missing out PREMIXES but it is time to invest in spending time to create my own premixes within a reasonable amount of time. I do not want to spend too much time seating on top of daily work. DVD era is sadly over!

FitSaxe, you have inspired me...I need to get that one back out - it has been a while.
Awwww;) I believe the name of this workout was not chosen lightly --- INTENSITY in capitol letter lol:D This gem has teeth and it is pure FUN.Well for us at least :D. I can read we reach out for similar FUN.
This DVD does not get enough praise/acknowledgment for what is offers. It is versatile. Enjoy;)

DeannaTS, yes, I believe Cathe has been one of the few instructors that continued to serve those of us who still love our DVDs. I understand the world has transitioned to streaming - and I have begun doing the Cathe Live downloads which has worked really well - nevertheless, DVDs are still my favorite.

FitSaxe - you are not kidding that the title fits the workout - it is very intense!

Yeah, I think Cathe has held out as long as possible for us! I'm very grateful!

I'm sure tariffs are just clobbering her (or making her have to pass on the costs to her customers). It's not just shipping costs - I'm sure everything else is getting expensive - such as the cost of blank DVDs, the cases, etc.

I'll be sad, too, if she eventually drops DVDs altogether, though I understand her reasoning.

I tell you, there's nothing more frustrating than being full-tilt in a workout and then suddenly having it lag-out or some other disruption like dropping on you entirely. I have really good internet, but I had occasional disruptions while streaming when I had OnDemand - part of why I decided not to renew.

Please share with us how you set yourself up at home. Thumb drives, External hard disc etc......

I am currently using a flash drive and it requires some files transfer after downloads.
So far I am fine, all my free bonus are on my flash drive. I also have other downloads including LMR1.

I have been grateful for the sales, because I'd discovered that more of my Cathe collection was missing than I'd original thought. The sales have helped me to replace workouts that I'd missed. It had occurred to me, though, that the sales might be for a reason. I've been choosing to be in denial about DVDs going away though - my internet is awful, and I'd never stream anyways. I am hoping the sales are to give new Cathletes an opportunity to check her out or to make room for what's needed for when LMR comes in (DVD cases or something?)

I don't know that downloads are going to be an option for me either. I was soooo excited that I figured out how to download the freebies that came with the LMR2 pre-purchase and I was going to do the partial upper body one but it turns out my computer isn't reading my DVD drive... so, I have no way to burn it onto a DVD and actually use it. So, the list I made of downloads I'd like in the future... I won't be purchasing them until I find a way to use them. I'm not great at tech stuff, but I do know that my ancient TV isn't equipped to "cast" or any of that, even if I did know how to do that. I think people use their phones for that stuff, but my landline doesn't do that fancy stuff. lol I have a large monitor laptop, but I won't workout to a laptop - I like my much larger TV screen - it feels like I'm part of Cathe and her crew when I turn it on and put in a DVD.

I stopped buying DVDs when Covid hit and the costs of shipping skyrocketed. Before that all my DVD purchases came with free shipping. Also, the last series I bought on DVD took a month to arrive here in New Zealand, previously they had taken 6-7 days. Fortunately, around the same time our main Telco started upgrading the internet in my area, so I was able to get OnDemand. I load up the workout on my laptop and connect my laptop to my TV with an HDMI cable. I do occasionally get some buffering but not as much as when I first started using OnDemand.

When you say load up the workout on your laptop... does that mean the same thing as download? Or can you do the same thing with an HDMI cable and a flashdrive inserted into the computer? I'm trying to figure out how to use my bonus downloads (for LMR2), and I think I remember something about an HDMI port on my TV, but it's too old of a TV for most of the other methods. I was wondering if I could put my downloads onto a flashdrive and hook my old computer up to my TV (just so I don't have hook and unhook it each time) and just insert a flashdrive. Do you think that's possible? I am so bad at tech stuff that even when I try to Google in order to figure it out... I don't really understand the info I found out. lol

I know what you mean, when it comes to tech, I can only do the basics. I take my laptop into my living room and use an HDMI cable to connect the laptop to the TV. When I turn on my TV, I have to use my remote to switch the input channel from TV to AV and then select the channel that my laptop is connected to, in my case it is HDMI 1. This then shows everything on my laptop on my TV screen and the sound comes through the TV only. For OnDemand, on my laptop I go to Cathe's website, log in under the streaming tab and then select the workout I want. I can then select play on my laptop, and the workout will play both on the laptop and the TV. You need a good wireless connection to do this though. My house is quite small and on one level, so my living room isn't that far away from my office where my modem is. I have done downloaded workouts the same way where the workout was saved to my laptop and this doesn't rely on an internet connection. I connect my laptop to my TV the same way and then navigate to the workout on my laptop and open the file. However, this should also work for downloads on a flashdrive plugged into your computer. You just need to navigate to the flashdrive on your laptop and open the file of the workout you want to do. To adjust volume, I need to use my TV remote. If I want to pause a workout, I have to do this on my laptop. Hope this helps.

Thank you so much! I do not have good wireless, but it sounds like I wouldn't need it for a download or flashdrive. I'm thinking about trying flashdrives, because that way if I can figure it out and it works... I won't fill my computer memory up with downloads. I have the 3 LMR2 downloaded to my computer, but my computer is ancient, so I'm worried I'll lose them when the computer kicks the bucket. If it works, I've started a list of Cathe download workouts that I'm hoping to buy on the Black Fri sales. The list is getting longer, so I'm pretty sure they won't all fit on my computer, so I'll use flashdrives. Thank you for all your help. :)

I am Glad Hazlady has replied before me.

You're right you do not need to rely on wireless internet connection setting up to play downloads.

Thank you for mentioning black Friday. I will make my small list since I literally own the entire collection. Well what I need. I skipped STEP BOSS launch thinking it was a cardio set. There are interesting abs bonuses. Plus at some point I will do some of low impact step To keep variety in my rotations. I am a versatile individual, quite open . So yes will add these as downloads. I do not need Basic step and Body fusion therefore won't purchase it.

I am also visiting PERFECT 30 as a add on ....the flow one. Because I workout an hour, I am reaching out for premixes. HiiT are to be done for 30 minutes. IMHO.

Exactly. And my internet does it daily, usually several times a day. It usually takes about 5 minutes to reconnect so by then I have totally lost momentum. I would even get frustrated watching the previews of lives, which is what has kept me from becoming a Cathe Live/On Demand subscriber, as much as I keep wanting to. To be in a workout & then have it buffer is bad enough, but for it to completely drop connection.......I may as well not do the workout. I don't exercise to get frustrated! I'm older though, so I do love my DVD's too. VHS tapes & then DVD's have been my workout world. I do understand the trend to get out of making DVD's but I sure wish it had waited a little longer!

The flash drives is what I'm trying out now. Started doing that with the free downloads too. At least it's an option to deal with my internet interruptions.

Hello Deanna,

Do you plug your flash drives directly to the tv through a usb slot?
What file format AVI, MP4..... your tv recognise?

Few people on the forum mentioned plugging it to dvd players, not sure if it works though:)
