Downloads in ITunes

Hi! I apologize in advance if this question has already been answered. I am still
New to downloading but had a wonderful experience with my first. I would love to download more but am hesitant due to a potential risk of losing them as I have had a computer crash before and lost everything, so I don't want to invest a lot in downloads. I was wondering if once they are in ITunes if they can always be accessed from my iTunes account even if I am on a different PC. Thank you!

That's a good question and honestly I'm not sure, but I wanted to mention that an External hard drive is a great investment - they have gotten very inexpensive and are worth the piece of mind.

I have a LaCie from Tiger Direct (from several years ago).
You just plug it into a USB port and you're good to go.

By the way, regarding your other post about negative comments - you do look fantastic! Keep it up!

If you have an account yes. My computer crashed a month ago. But I got itu es downloaded and put in password that was for apple that's iTunes and it all came back.

Thank you!

Thank you Renee and Jennifer for your prompt replies! I will be downloading away now ;) I will def look into an external hard drive also, thanks for the tip!

Hello REMeeks,

The Cathe Download files will not be accessible from any computer except the one that you copy the videos onto. iTunes stores the videos within its database on that computer only, so if your hard drive crashes, you could possibly lose the files. It is always a good idea to back up the video files onto an external hard drive in case this happens, that way you can always copy them back into iTunes. If you have an iCloud account and make purchases through iTunes directly from Apple, those files can be redownloaded, but understand that only the files purchased from Apple can be redownloaded, not videos that you have purchased elsewhere and copied into iTunes. Hope this helps.

Wow! Is that cathe dvds only? Because when mine crashed they had all my stuff I bought stored somewhere in my iTunes account so when I got the new computer I just got into my itunes and downloadrd it agan from there. All the stuff I purchased was there.

Hi Renee,

Any content that you purchased in the iTunes Store can be re-downloaded, however any content that you copy into iTunes, whether it be music, videos, etc., that you have purchased anywhere else will not be able to be redownloaded since it only resides on your machine. The only exception to this is if you pay for iTunes Match, in which case music that you purchase elsewhere and copy into iTunes is converted into the iTunes version, which you can then redownload at any point. This is not offered for video, and probably will not be.

Here's another plug for an external back-up drive. Mine has saved my rear more than once. And once you have a substantial Cathe downloaded library, you want to protect it. Such a great investment, and not too expensive. (And much cheaper than re-purchasing anything that gets lost in a crash!
