Does pilates make anyone else sweat?

I swear if I'm the only one who breaks a sweat during pilates I'm just going to crawl in a hole and close the hole around me!

Now, it's not the same kind of sweat (profusely) as in a cardio workout or weight training, but I do "bead up" quite nicely from less than an hour's worth of pilates! It really is harder than I thought, and in just 3 weeks of doing it just a few days/week, I could swear it's helping to flatten my lower abs! The area is starting to take a different shape from the bottom up (if that makes sense?), and it has helped strengthen my abs overall, which I can appreciate during some of Cathe's ab work.

It'll never replace my normal cardio and weight training, but I am really thinking about including some pilates (probably in the evenings) a few days/week more routinely.
Does anyone else do it on a regular bases? And if so, what results have you gotten?

Donna

Hi Donna, I try to do Pilates about three times a week and have seen some good results in my abs. Traditional ab work never really did anything for my lower abs. Pilates gets at that area better. It's also strengthened my lower back which helps during squats. It makes me feel more flexible and relaxed.

Sweaty? Yes, sometimes during plank work & my nemesis: teaser.

I've done Pilates for serveral years for core strength, flexibility. It supplements my strength work. The push-ups are those nasty tricep type, the rotater cuff gets some work, & the side series (legs) usually isolates muscles that usually get an assist during traditional leg work. Most of all I feel great after a Pilates session!

A Pilates bonus, all of that rolling on the spine builds/maintains bone mass in the lower spine. That area usually loses bone density faster than the hips/pelvis & is tough to work with traditional exercise.

I haven't done any pilates, but a woman on my check-in on another board has been using pilates a lot since taking a pretty good fall this summer. It was about all she could do & said she was afraid she wouldn't see any results but she did! She has seen a tone in all of her muscles that wasn't there before. She swears by pilates.

Hey GettingFitAt38 how's your walk/run routine going. I recall your posting on it and I was curious!

My daughter does lots Pilates and runs and she looks like Madonna so it must be doing something GREAT!!

Donna, which vids do you do for Pilates??

Just curious. I love Pilates and am always looking for a new video. What ones do you like?

Kelly.............

I only have 1 at the moment, the Denise Austin Matwork video. It's 2-20min workouts, 1 pilates, the other a yoga/pilates blend. Since I know nothing of pilates, I wanted a beginner video, and several descriptions at videofitness and collagevideo said that it was a good instructional video. She does explain things clearly, especially the breathing.
I just ordered yesterday a 2-video set (beginner & intermediate) from collagevideo.com. The "Living Arts" pilates workout with Ana Caban. The reviews were good, others seem to feel the beginner workout was informative while still being a good workout, and that the intermediate video was a good follow up. So I'll have to let you know how they are, but the set was only $26. for 2 videos, so it was worth a try. :)
