Does heartbeat really predict gender?

I know it is an old wives tale, but I am pg with my second and hoping for a girl. My son followed the heartbeat tale cuz he was in the low 140's thru out the whole pregnancy. How many of you girls has this been true for? What are your genders and heartbeats?:)

I didn't hear about this until my last pregnancy. The baby's heartbeat indicated a boy, but I had a baby girl.

When I was pg with my son, his heartbeat was really all over. The first one was high, so I was thinking a girl. The second time, it was low. Then thereafter, it was up and down from there. I believe the same was true with my daughter. What was the heartbeat at your last appt.? Mine was 160.

It is funny that you asked this because at my last appointment my doctor actually commented on it. We have had several ultrasounds and they are all sure that we are having a girl, but at my last appointment the doctor said if she went by the heart rate myth, she would swear that it was a boy! I think alot depends on whether they are moving around or sleeping, just like us! My son's heart beat was all over the place, too. How far along are you? Hopefully you will be able to find out soon! Good luck! ;-)

I am not pregnant but when I was pregnant with both my girls the OB always said when he heard the heartbeat,"sounds like a girl to me" and I could never tell in the ultrasound, they were not that co-operative LOL but they were definatly girls LOL

My girlie is 18 months old now, but she always fit the "girl" profile. Can't remember what her heart rate was, but I do remember that it was usually pretty fast. Somewhere on the Web I found a quiz that sort of compiled all the wives tales into one quiz, then gave you a percentage estimate of what you were having (for example, it said I had a 65% chance of having a girl). Probably meaningless, but it was fun.

The tale has held true for both of my angels. :D

Was completely irrelavent for mine as well!!

Everyone had an opinion on what it would be. I had one old man walk up to me and tell me I was carrying a boy because I was carrying HER so high up. Hard for me not to say "what on earth do you know about it!!!", but he was REALLY very sweet and I told him I appreciated his input :7 :7 :7

Hi Marci (waving smiley inserted - if I was Debbie H I could make this a reality)

The heartbeat was correct with my daughter, but it is in the 150's this time and the ultrasound sure looks like a boy.

Everyone seems to have a method for determining the sex of a baby. Briee, I had several people tell me the ultrasound was wrong... I was having a boy because I was carrying high. Well, the ultrasound was right.

When I was 8 1/2 months pregnant with my son, a woman came up to me and insisted that I was carrying a girl because of the way I was carrying. We had an ultrasound earlier and it was very obvious that the baby was a boy. I told the woman that and she wouldn't believe me - she wouldn't stop insisting that I was having a girl. I don't understand why people think the way you carry the baby has anything to do with the gender.

I've heard two doctors - one of which is my own - say that heartbeat does not determine gender. The baby's heartbeat will fluctuate, just like ours does, depending on whether he/she is active or at rest. As long as the heartbeat is somewhere between 120-160 during your check-up, it's a good thing, boy or girl.

I was just at my 16 week appt. and when the Dr checked the heartbeat, it was 150. She said, jokingly, so you're having a girl. I said how funny it was as both my children heartbeats varied throughout, etc. and she said that there was actually a study just put out by the New England Journal of Medicine that tested all of these so called "wives tales" and that they discovered none of them to be true. The only one that she buys into is that if your skin is breaking out more than it did prior to pg., you are most likely having a boy, due to the different hormones, etc. Who knows...?
