Does anyone get up in the night to pee?

Only very irregularly, but definitely when pregnant, sorry. Wayne: I thought you were going to check up on a possible anxiety link? Did you get any results/joy from any physician on this one?

Clare

Wayne,

It really depends on how much liquid I take in between 5:00 and 10:00 or how much fruit I've eaten. Sometimes I will wake up once or twice, sometimes not at all.

Because of perimenopause, I tend to hold water, so I feel blessed when I do wake up to go. Luckily I can get right back to sleep.

My doctor doesn't care. Fact. Sadly. I have noticed that when i'm really anxious or upset i can pee all day long. I can feel that my bladder/ureatha is not emptying. I can just feel it. I don't actually wake up at night...isn't that funny. All day long i'm bothered yet at night...i can sleep. Don't you think thats wierd? Surely if it was a real problem then it would bother me 24/7 but it only bothers me when i'm wake...sigh.

Stress me thinks. And my life is soooooooo stressful at the moment.

Clare - Love you for caring honey!

I go to bed everynight with a big jug of water filled with ice. Gosh that did not come out right, but you know what I mean.;-) I get up I'd say about 2 to 3 times, and I always take a drink of water.:7 I remember Oprah saying she did not drink anything past 6pm:eek: I can't imagine not having my water:7

ALL the time! It drives me nuts! And, if I'm doing long distance driving - i really have to watch my fluid intake, otherwise I'll have to stop at some run-down gas station to pee! I even went for some tests to see if there was a problem with my bladder - turns out everything is normal! But yes, every night about 2 times I get up to pee. During my two pregnancies it was about 5 times - CRAZY.

And, If I drink coffee, forget it - I may as well just sit on the toilet and drink the stuff - 'cause it comes out so frequently!

Always at least once per night. I try not to drink anything after 6:00, but I get so darned thirsty it's hard not to.

I get up once or twice a night to go to the bathroom. All depends on how much I drink in the evening or how cold I get at night.:+ :7 I rarely go an entire night without getting up at least once.

HTH :D

Of course, I drink about 64 oz of water a day, I usually get up a couple times a night....... Rhonda

Yep -- I get up at least once per night depending upon how much liquid I consume close to bedtime.

I also go a lot during the day. A lot of my friends/family make fun of the fact that I am constantly going to the bathroom. It *is* somewhat inconvenient especially when traveling because I have to make quite a few stops (if driving) or time things just right (if flying). I have rarely met anyone that goes as much as I do (even pregnant women).

However, I suppose I do drink quite a bit of water and other liquids (at least 4 liters per day). I have noticed that reducing my caffiene intake helps a little. Drinking coffee and/or diet soda makes the problem worse.

I recently found a new lifting partner at the gym who has the same problem. So we both joke that we have a "baby bladder". It is just something we have learned to deal with even though it can be uncomfortable.

Anyway -- I know you've been dealing with this problem for a while now from reading your previous posts. I hope you find something that helps!

Shonie - can you expalin something to me please. You say you go alot to the bath room? How much? Also, do you just get the urge to "go" or is it really a burning desire to pee? Thanks for being so frank about this. For years i went to the loo alot, especially when i was out and drinking alot, could go to the loo then 10 mins later be back again...etc... but only recently has it been this bad. So any info you might have would be of help to me. Thank you.

Wayne:

just so you know, you said recently you were going to email me and then were disappointed that I did not reply, well, I just wanted to let you know that I never got your email and if I had I sure would have replied almost immediately!!

Send it again!

Clare :)

Okay, Wayne, this may sound kind of weird, but do you think you may be worrying so much about peeing all the time that you're actually willing yourself to pee all the time? You know, like worrying about it is perpetuating the peeing.

Your observation about not peeing at night is interesting, because if it is physical, you'd be waking up to go too, right?

i know for me, i have to go! i really have to go! its not nerves - i'm always going and like the previous posts - its a bit of a pain because i'm always having to plan ahead. When traveling, i always count on stops on the way and even at work. If i'm heading into a long meeting, i watch my fluid intake, otherwise i'll have to leave the meeting to run to the washroom (always embarassing.)

Wayne-
All depends on how much water I've drank before bed (and if pregnant, forget about it!) but since we have different plumbing I'm not sure that will help you. I know you've had this problem for a while- did you end up getting a second opinion? Please do so if you haven't- I'd hate to see you in any more discomfort if this is something that can be taken care of by seeing someone else who can figure it out. It seems unbelievable that in this day and age you could be having this problem for so long- surely there must be someone who can help you. I hate to see anyone having any medical problems without resolve, it must be terrible. :-(
Just thinking of you,
Brenda

Hi Wayne,

Like many others, getting up at night to go to the bathroom depends on how much water I drink at night.

Have you thought about seeing a urologist? A specialist should at least be more attentive to your concerns.

You said that you have been under a lot of stress lately- sorry about that. I'm thinking that frequent urination might be your physical response to stress. Stress works in mysterious ways! For example, my mom gets bumps all over her chest when she is stressed. For me, my neck gets really itchy. Some people may get a pimple or lose their appetite. I know that even if you do determine that stress is the cause, you won't feel any better about the situation. I wish there was something more comforting I could say!

Does exercising help the stress? Are there possibly any relaxation techniques you could try?

Hope you feel better.

Gina

My old dog, cat and myself get up fairly often.... Good for the guinea pigs, they have a bathroom right in their suite.:7

Ype seen a urologist. Lot of help. He said "you don't have cancer" be happy. Its probably stress and all in your head! Nice! But of course it may be partly in my head, but other parts of my body tell me differently. Sigh...

I'm sorry to pester you guys so much. I really am.

Clare - i will forward e-mail again my lovely x

Wayne- NEVER a pester! If you think something may be wrong go and get another opinion or get another PC. If it is actually caused by stress there should be some way to relieve it so this doesn't continue... HTH:)

Wayne,

Sorry I didn't answer before now. I've been out of the office for a few days. Okay...now to answer the personal questions :) When I say I go to the bathroom a lot -- I'm talking at least a couple of times per hour. If I'm slightly dehydrated (normally by choice because I know I will be in a long meeting or traveling) then it will be less (maybe once per hour or every 2 hours). When I am making an effort to drink lots of water, I can go as much as every 15 minutes.

It is an actual urge to go. It is worse when I drink carbonated beverages or anything with caffeine. It is also worse if I have not eaten very much that day.

I haven't kept track of everything you've tried (although I've read several of your previous posts about this issue). You might want to try elimating caffeine, carbonated drinks, and alcohol to see if it makes a difference. Also -- like the other posters have mentioned -- see another urologist. Sometimes the first doctor (or 2nd, or 3rd) won't have a good answer. Keep trying until you find someone who really listens to your concerns and tries to work with you to find a solution rather than simply saying "well, you don't have cancer. be happy".

Although I am not a doctor (nor do I play one on TV) -- I think there are other health problems that may have frequent urination as a symptom: UTIs, bladder conditions, kidney conditions, prostate conditions, diabetes, etc. I'm sure you're probably already aware of all this information. Has your doctor tested you for all of these possible problems?

I believe there are also some prescription meds that are supposed to help with "overactive bladder" problems.

Good luck Wayne! You will eventually find the solution to this problem.

Shonie
