Do You Ever Feel "Chilled" During Long Cardio Workouts?

A sort of quick question. When I do longer cardio sessions (over 50 minutes) at first I sweat like a pig, then towards the end, I start feeling "chilly" almost like my body is starting to shut off.
My energy is high, I drink a ton of water (one quart per workout)but I sometimes need to put on a sweatshirt for the last 20 minutes or so. Is this a problem for anyone else? I actually remember this happening to me years ago when I was seriously training to compete and had to do 90 minutes of cardio every AM

And no, I am not sick, I just remember this happening especially during the Cardio Fusion premix-the 80 minute workout.

I thank you ahead of time for any input you all might have?:) I thought someone else may have briefly mentioned this in an earlier post..

Yes, I've had this happen. I'm not sure why it happens, either, because-- as you mentioned-- I'm well-hydrated and energized.

It only tends to happen to me if I do cardio workouts that exceed about an hour.

For instance, when I did 90-minute advanced step classes at my old gym in California, I'd have to put on my sweatshirt at about the 70-minute mark.

Weird. I'd be interested to hear if anyone else has any insight into this.

IMO, it's the evaporative effect of sweating. Your body is doing its job and doing it well. I get "cold" when I do any kind of circuit (LIC and C&W come to mind right away) because my wet clothes feel cold toward the end of the workout. I bet if you put on a dry shirt you'd warm up right away.

I read or heard somewhere that the more "in shape" you are your body's natural cooling system (sweating) will happen quicker than if you aren't in shape. I know when I get my heart rate up I sweat so easily, which is good I guess but kind of annoying when walking at work & before working out like I do now I didn't sweat much! Anyway, I would think that going the other way then, cooling off, would happen quicker the more in shape you are... but don't hold me to it!

I don't feel cold DURING work outs but will cool off fast and feel a chill shortly after I am done if I don't change clothes or hop in the shower right away.

Do you all think Cathe may have some insight into this? I know she rarely answers posts, she is sooo busy, but maybe she could shed some light?

I don't know about that, but I get something like goosebumps when I go much heavier then usual..I just feel a surge run thru my body similiar to a cold chill, but not. Hard to explain.

Yep, it's happened to me before--I've even gotten goosebumps! :( I wondered if it was from being a little dehydrated? I would be curious to see what Cathe had to say. :)

I've had this happen and I think it has to do with the fairly cool water I am sipping during the course of my workout that starts to cool me down a bit. It happens only during the longer workouts which of course I consume more water that I would a short workout.

I've never experienced the chills after a Cathe workout, but if I take a 40 mile bike ride, this phenomenon happens to me too. And not just while I'm still sweaty. I remain cold long after I've taken a shower and stretched out. It also happens to my dh, so it can't be the old "women always whine about being cold" theory. I'm relieved to hear this happens to others.

Yep, me too! I had this happen this last year when running the Peachtree 10K. The heat index was in the low 100s and I don't think I have ever been so hot. Towards the end I experienced that chilled feeling. It's heat exhaustion.
