Disc jacks

Does anyone find the disc jacks kind of hard or awkward? I'm not sure if I'm doing them wrong or maybe they are just working a week spot (ie inner thighs)?

What surface are you on? Are you using Cathe's discs? I find using the discs with the pads on my hardwood floors much easier than the discs with no pads on my carpet. My home gym has carpeting though so that's the surface I'm usually using. I don't find the jacks particularly challenging but you may want to experiment with flooring to see if that makes a difference.

taterkc, I feel the same way. I can't seem to keep my feet positioned correctly on those discs during the disc jacks. I don't have problems with any other moves. Just those darn jacks! I know it totally defeats the purpose of the "low impact" title, but I always just do normal jumping jacks as a substitute move instead.

I was just wondering about this the other day - I always do regular jacks (and mountain climbers etc) - but was wondering whether the disc versions are SUPPOSED to be harder? Are they supposed to add resistance? (My inner thighs could do with it ;) )

If you are on carpet, put some Pledge on the disks to make them more slippery. Be careful, though. I tend to over-apply and a couple times, I took a tumble when the disk slipped away from me. Happened while doing the cross country skiing, not jacks. Luckily, I was taken by surprise, didn't tense up, and hurt only my dignity. :p

I find it easier and more comfortable to have my toes turned out slightly, almost like a plie jack but keeping my feet on the floor. So my inner thighs do feel it more, but I don't mind. I hope this helps.

Disc jacks hurt my knees something fierce. I always modify by doing jumping jacks on my rebounder when they come up in workouts. If the pacing is such that it doesn't work to quickly go to the rebounder than I'll sub by doing low squat jacks usually.

Really any move on the discs where both feet are on them and the move is "vertical" is a problem for me. This includes jacks, cross country ski, swimming lunges, etc. I always sub for those moves. Better to be safe than sorry!
