Any suggestion in a nice dinnerware set that can be put in dishwasher. Too nice for everyday but not nice enough for formal dinners? I mean not these big mugs and deep soup bowls. I would like the little mugs with its plate that goes underneath and a nice soup dish with main dish and desrt dish.
I just can't seem to find one I like. I would prefer square with not too much colors but if round is nice, then I don't mind.

Just checking if there is any you like... maybe I will fall in love

thx

I like Pfaltzgraph. I don't own any (yet) because my house is too small for any kind of entertaining that make the purchase worth while but my mom has a set and I love it! I do believe the stuff is dishwasher safe cause I don't think she would have bought it if it weren't!

I have Crate and Barrel dinnerware that I use for occasions that are not formal, but a bit nicer than everyday. They are made of porcelain, so they are dishwasher safe and won't chip as easily as stoneware does. They have great designs and colors that are simple but with just a touch of elegance.

Good luck on your search!

I like to change the theme of my dinner table for holidays so I do not spend a lot of money on nice dishes.
I have several different sets, but I started with a basic white with silver trim. I would think you could fine some in square.
I bought the entire set @ Macy's for $300.

Basic white is great because I change up my color scheme with linen and flowers.
My stemware is from Target. I don't like to spend a lot on crystal because I like to use my dishes instead of preserve them so they won't break.;) My sister keeps her expensive china tucked away. I could never understand that. If I break a wine glass, I'm not heart broken because I didn't spend $100 a glass.

I've also found nice dishes and Pier One Imports and Target.

I suggest Fiesta Ware. It comes in all kinds of colors. It has a good weight, no busy pattern, it can look casual or dressy, and it makes your food look good! You can buy the basic dinnerware in a set or buy individual pieces. The serving pieces are wonderful! You can find Fiesta Ware at Kohl's, Macy's, Herberger's, and probably other places I don't know of!

Good luck with your purchase!

HTH!

I just got a bunch of fiestaware in turquoise.. just cause I like it. ha. I thought about mixing colors. may still I don't know. I'm not into entertaining often and I don't have space for anything real fancy. I have three boys so want tuff everyday stuff. I think the fiesta is fun/sturdy but could look nice too if you fixed up your table. One day I'll get some that is more "fine". I saw a set I really like at Target: http://www.target.com/Medallion-16-...archSize=30&id=Medallion 16-pc Dinnerware Set

actually they have a lot of nice sets. (typing with baby in arms sorry if messy typing)

I LOVE LOVE the quality of William Sonoma!
I really like those dishes Sparrow.:)
I have a weakness shopping in that store. I can never leave without buying something. I have almost all of their baking pans. :D
This pan makes perfect brownies every single time! (note I rarely eat brownies:p)

This is a tiny bit off subject, but thought that I would go ahead and add it. When I got married and bought my house eight years ago my grandmother came over unexpectedly. She told me that she had something for me. She had my grandpa bring in all these boxes and I was kind of confused. She told me to open them and in those 9 or 10 boxes was all of her old antique china she had purchased 40 or so years ago. She told me that she wanted me to have it. I was shocked and flattered as we had never really been close. I had it packed away in storage in my basement until about two years ago. Two years ago I decided I would be more likely to use it if I brought it upstairs. I put it in this antique armoir that was in my sunroom that is right off the kitchen. I still never used the china because I never hosted anything that I felt was worthy of it. One day I decided to get out one cup and saucer and use that for my coffee. I love how the china makes clink noises! Well a couple of months ago I decided that better yet I would move it into a really high up cabinet in the kitchen. I have to get on my step ladder, but at least it was moved to the kitchen. Well guess what? Last weekend, I moved my everday and semi-nice dishes to the high cabinet and loaded all my gradma's china into my everyday kitchen cabinets. I still to this day haven't hosted a nice event and would prefer to use the nice beautiful antique dishes. I have decided that I am worth it!

Last weekend I had a big bunch of in-laws over for a pot-luck and gosh darn-it we used china. Everyone acted really uncomfortable asking if I was sure. I said of course I am sure! Every thin that we ate and drank from the china felt that much more special. The store bought cake I served just felt more special eaten off of china with real silverware instead of paper plates and plastic silverwear that would fill up multiple loads to the trash dumpster. I even put the cream and sugar in the china servers. Not one dish was broken, and it if did happen - oh well!

By the way - in St. Louis there is a shop in our antique district that is a china finder, so I can always replace some items (for a price).

Anyway - I just wanted to share that I am now using antique china every single day and loving every moment of it!
