Did anyone else have this?

So I have my first Dr appt yesterday w/my pregnancy & I've gained 10 pounds!! I know that I have been eating more than usual & I have not been able to do the workouts that I use to yet (still not feeling good). The Dr didn't say anything about this, but every where I read they say that you should only of gain about 3 pounds. I know everyone is different but when I'm feeling crappy food somewhat makes me feel better?? Does anyone have any sugg on how to make sure that I don't gain another in the next month?

Thanks

I'm only 5 1/2 weeks along and I've already gained about 6 pounds. How far along are you? I don't know if it is water weight or what, but it is really freaking me out. I'm in the same situation, I've cut back on the exercise because my heart rate seems to soar and I just don't feel that good (exercising almost everyday, but only for 30 minutes). I'm also soooo hungry all the time. I keep telling myself this is just getting me ready for the morning sickness that is sure to come my way, so that I don't lose too much. HeHe..yeah right :)

I'm on my 7 week & the sickness started about 2 weeks ago for me & is not fun.. All I want to do when I get home from work is eat & sleep!!!!!

It's hard when you feel sick and tired, or if only certain foods taste good to you, and they aren't exactly healthy ones! Sometimes the early weight gain is (at least partially) water related. Your body is still getting used to a whole new set of hormones, and that can cause some water retention (kind of like TTOM, only worse) Bad food choices can add to that, too, though, so the less damage you can do with that, the better.

For me, it helped to avoid salty foods, and anything that might make the water retention worse. It seemed to get better after 14 weeks or so, but I still have to be careful with salt. You can try making sure you're drinking as much water as you can handle. That helps flush everything out. That might help with sickness, too.

You can ask your doctor for some tips, too. They might be able to refer you to a nutritionist or something. (I know my group has this, but don't know if it's a common thing or not.)

Don't worry - you will feel better! ;-) It may not be tomorrow, but it will happen. You just have to take it one day at a time and do the best you can. Hang in there!

Yes, I always tend to gain a bunch of weight right at the beginning. Then, as I'm able to eat better & workout it stabilizes again. Obviously, you wouldn't want to gain 10lbs/month... ;)

You know I think it is totally normal. This pregnancy I have not gained much at all and I can't figure out how..lol Wtih my son and my dd I gaied 10-12lbs right away. Then for some reason both times in the second trimester I barely gained a thing. I was able to just stay the same or gain 1-2lbs at each visit. I ended up gaining a total of 27lbs w/ my son and got right back into shape and I gained 40lbs w/ my dd and while it was a bit harder I still was able to get right back into the swing of things. I know a lot of women eat more in the first trimester because it keeps the m/s away so that could be it or like a pp said water weight is big.. bloating and all that. I wouldn't worry about it unless you see a pattern like you are gaing 10lbs at each visit. I also wouldn't worry too much about the working out. I had a few weeks this time as well in the first trimest that I had major fatigue and some days I could workout and some days I just didn't. It does get better as well! Remember you are growing a precious baby in there nad your body will talk to you! If you feel really tired then rest. Good luck to you!

Stacy--I know the "experts" say to gain 2-4 lbs in the first trimester and this has also caused me stress as well, because I usually gain about 15 lbs in my first trimester due to just feeling sick and only being able to eat what I can eat.

You should be feeling better by the second trimester and then you can have a bit more control over your diet.

I have come to the conclusion that women are just different when it comes to weight gain patterns during pregnancy. Try not to compare yourself to others and what they gain. I am a big gainer and sometimes I am very discouraged by the small amounts others gain.

However, that being said, I have been able to take off my baby weight each time (except after my 4th child--long story). And I expect to be able to do it again after #6 with portion control and exercise.

Hang in there and don't stress and know that things will probably slow down in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters....

Maggie:) :)
who is NOT going to reveal how much she has gained at 25 weeks;-) :9 ;-)

I definitely know how you feel. I had a 10 pound gain one month (it was early on and I don't remember exactly when). I walked out of the doctor's office crying and convinced that I was going to have a 90 pound weight gain over the course of my pregnancy! Of course, I have'nt. I'm due in 10 days:) and am at 35 pounds and have held steady for the past couple of weeks and everyone tells me how I don't look at all like I'm ready to deliver (even though I feel huge!). I also am still working out 5 days a week-with modifications of course- and I feel great.

I actually think it was good for me because I realized that I hadn't exactly been making the best food choices. For me, it was definitely a good "reality check". I just started eating better and my weight gain leveled off. Don't worry about it just watch what you eat and exercise when you feel like it and you'll be fine.

Hang in there. I know it is tough watching yourself gain weight. I had A LOT of trouble dealing with this at first but it gets easier as you go through. Just take care of yourself and most importantly, listen to your body. Besides, after your little one is here, Cathe will have you back to your former self in no time..

This is my first so I'm no means an expert, but I agree with what others have said.

Each body -- and each pregnancy -- is unique.

That said, the advice I have been following is from my girlfriend. "The books are only a guide. There is no one size fits all pregnancy book. So relax and enjoy. Your doctor will tell you if there are concerns."

So relax!!

Once you're feeling better, you'll be more mobile. Certain smells might not be so offensive anymore either. I had a hard time cooking -- favorites suddenly made my stomach churn.

And I have a new-found love for Cheetos, of all things. How unhealthy is THAT?!

I lost in the first trimester but gained 10 pounds in 2 weeks! My doctor has got on me a few times about my weight gain but she is not using any specific guide. She just tells me to lay off the carbs.

Every body is different. I have gained or lost totally different amounts at every single appointment. I am up 30 pounds so far and will probably be unduced in about 3 months so I will probably gain about 35 pounds or more but oh well :)

Hope you feel better soon!
