Diagnosis - enlarged thyroid

Well, here's an update to my thyroid issues. You might have read my post last week where I initially voiced my concerns about this. I saw my doctor on Friday, and after an examination, she told me that my thyroid is larger on one side. Now I've got a whole sheet of bloodwork to get done (possibly Tuesday), and I'm scheduled for an ultrasound on Wednesday morning. The odds are in favor of the enlargement being non-cancerous, but the possibility still exists that it could be cancer. I'll know more on Wednesday.

I've been so tired, though! I just don't feel like doing anything, which is so unlike me! I'm usually able to coax myself out of bed by 6:30, even on the weekends, but as the past few months have ticked by, I hit the snooze button longer and longer. Now I have to force myself out of bed by 8:00 on the weekends. During the week, I'm waiting until the last possible minute to get up...if I stay in bed, I'll be late for work, so "gotta get up" -- but I don't want to.

Needless to say, I haven't been exercising. I don't even feel like cooking. I just want to sit down and rest! I try to study or read, but fall asleep.

Somebody on here suggested getting my adrenal system checked, too. I told my doctor about this, and she said that we'll focus on the thyroid first, and if we don't see results there, we'll look into the adrenal system. I'm hoping she'll refer me if that ends up being the case.

I hope I get some answers this week!

I have hypothyroid which I am on medication for. I have to adjust it every once in a while and I know when I need to because I get very moody, overwhelmed feeling and tired. As long as the doctors can control your hormone levels you will be fine. I have had the best luck with Armour Thyroid medication which is more natural then Synthroid but you have to get the name brand not the generic. Ask your doctor about it, hopefully he will work with you and listen to your concerns. A lot of the time doctors will do what they want to not what you feel is best for you.

Thank you to everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and advice.

Today has been the best I've felt in a while. I actually had enough energy to come home and wash some dishes and cook a quick dinner. But now I'm starting to feel a bit sleepy/tired. That's good, though, because I've got to get up earlier in the morning to go get my blood work before heading into the office.

I've been doing some research...surfing the Net and looking on Amazon.com for books on thyroid disorders and how to treat them. I would prefer treating my situation (whatever that may be) naturally. I don't like the idea of being on medication the rest of my life, but that may end up being the case. The only way I'll know, though, is to do my homework. I'll start off with some generic books and once I know what I've got, I can focus on that.

Catwoman - I went through pretty much the exact same thing in November/December. It's scary - I was a nervous wreck - ask anyone here! But the thing to remember is that even if the absolute worst does happen and it is cancer (although the odds are less than 5%), this cancer is easily treatable by the removal of some or all of the thyroid.

That being said, you'll probably just undergo a ultrasound guided fine needle asperation - which is not fun - not really painful but not comfortable. And they will send the results to the lab. If your thryoid levels are not normal (mine were, which surprised me), then you will be put on medication. Sounds like you might have a lot of the symptoms, though.

You're in my thoughts are prayers. I do know how scary this can be. I'm not good at waiting, and this is a lot of waiting, unfortunately...
