Demand NIKE drops Michael Vick

Done!!!

I also made sure to mention that I do spend a considerable amount of $$ on sporting apparel/gear, which won't be theirs until they ditch him.

I agree that the allegations are horrible. Animal abuse is tops on my list of things that should be punished to the full extent of the law.

But... what happened to having a fair trial? IF Vick is guilty, then have at it. He hasn't been proven guilty yet though. I can't help but think about the situation concerning those Duke Lacrosse players. Everyone jumped on the bandwagon with them too, and look what happened.

I emailed them. I saw the story on CNN while I was at the dentist yesterday & couldn't watch, it was one of the most sickening & saddest things I'd ever seen. The dentist kept telling me "I need you to turn your head this way" & I kept saying NO!

That man is a disgusting excuse for a human being & this is not the first time his behavior has gone way over the top. I don't know what makes him think he's above the law & can get away w/this crap. No, there's been no trial but from what I've heard from the news there's no question he's been participating in reprehensible behavior.

Frankly I wish they'd skip the trial & put him in a cage w/a couple of those dogs, let him experience what he seems to enjoy so much.

"But... what happened to having a fair trial? IF Vick is guilty, then have at it. He hasn't been proven guilty yet though."

I never declared he was guilty of anything. I e-mailed Nike and laid out my terms but even to Nike, I never stated he was guilty.

If there is a fire and your standing there with a can of gasoline and a pack of matches, chances are you're guilty. This was taking place on his property, involved his family, and he has a breeding center for pit bulls. He is well established as being involved in these activities. The evidence in this case is overwhelming. He is guilty as sin. I have emailed Nike, as well.

>didn't they turn up mass graves of dogs on his property? i
>agree he's guilty as sin.

Eeeeewwww. Really? Who is this person? Can someone post a pic of what he looks like? I read the earlier link about his home being raided but I don't have anymore information about what went on in his home.

I agree....comparing this to the Duke case is like comparing apples and oranges. These dogs were COMPLETELY innocent. They had no choice in how they were treated. While I know that I'll be showing a preference for animals over people here;-)...all the parties involved in the Duke case made their own choices and they all made bad decisions. I'm not saying that what happened was right but I'm pretty sure that by all accounts those boys have admitted that they believe they made some bad choices and should have done some things differently.

Unfortunately, these dogs didn't have any choices nor did they have the ability to make any decisions for themselves. That's what makes this so much worse. Plus, Michael Vick is a much more high profile athlete than those Duke lacrosse players. He has many young fans that look up to him--his punishment should be severe

Whether Michael Vick actually committed some of the heinous acts described in that indictment remains to be seen, but without a doubt this was happening on his property. That's enough for me.

I thought you guys might like (wrong word, probably) to see Nike's charming response to my email about dropping him:

Thank you for contacting us regarding Michael Vick.

There is no change in the status of the agreement between Nike and
football player Michael Vick. Nike will continue to monitor the situation,
but has nothing further to say at this time.

I replied back saying that's certainly their prerogative, but they can count on my making no further Nike purchases until their policy changes. It's unbelievable who some of these companies choose, and maintain, as their "representatives."

Jeez, I didn't even get a response! I did include in my email that I spend literally thousands on Nike shoes & apparel on an annual basis, & that if they continued a relationship w/him in any way, shape or form I would never purchase anything from them ever again.

And I mean it. Not even a pair of socks!

Here's an idea--we should also start emailing retailers asking them to stop selling Nike apparel until they drop Vick (Sports Authority, Bob's, Nordstrom, etc.).

Thank you for the link. I emailed them and if I get the same reply as others have, there will be NO Nike products in this house. Both my husband and my two adult sons cannot even listen to or speak about this. It is so horrible. Question--won't he be going to jail?

Kristin,

Thanks for the update.

I just sent an e-mail telling them that I've already seen their standard response to the "Vick situation" and that, no matter what they do now, I will not be buying another Nike product.

Laura, I really like your idea and will send some emails to a few retailers. One of the things I said to Nike in my email is that the guy hasn't been found guilty yet, but that's the standard for a court of law, not for having someone out there as the "face" of your company, and thus presumably as at least some kind of role model (!). The guy doesn't have to be convicted before it's appropriate for a company to remove him from a (very lucratively) paid role representing the company, for pete's sake!
