Definitely not in love with Jari Love

My conclusion, she is wayyy to sedate, plastic and insincere. She throws around certain phrases that are intended to make her sound "intelligent" like she actually knows what she's talking about, but she just doesn't pull it off in my mind. I'll probably get flamed for this, but she comes across as a dumb blond who happens to be in great shape and uses "big words"!:p

I'm really regretting buying her DVD's before trying them. I did Workout 1 of Get Ripped Extreme 1000 and it just did not get me all pumped up and excited! I feel that way about all of the DVD's. Lesson learned on my part, I guess. I have not regretted any of the Cathe DVD's I've purchased! Love ya, Cathe!!

So, to make up for that totally lackluster workout (and yes I did put my all into it), I turned to my good friends and REAL workout guy, Shaun T.!! Thank you, Shaun for making me sweat that great drenching sweat and feel like I got a REAL workout, got my heart-rate up and feel totally satisfied!!!! :D:eek::cool:

Gonna go clean up and head to the pool.

Happy Sunday!

Not every instructor is everyone's cup of tea! I've not done any workout dvds by anyone other than Cathe, except for Tony Horton's 10 Minute Trainer before I found Cathe. I found him extremely annoying. I guess I'm just spoiled! LOL!

Sounds like you are too! It's a matter of geniuneness and real knowledge. It really does show!

I have never done any of Jari's workouts, but I have never bought one based on how she looks. I don't know if I can explain it.

Cathe looks fit..solid...looks and sounds competent. Jari is ripped, but she doesn't look solid...her outfits often look cheesy...she just really doesn't look what I call FIT to me. Something is just off about her. I don't know if that makes any sense.

Very few instructors out there have Cathe's "feel".

I thought the same thing!! I actually did watch several of her video clips and thought it might be worth trying! Wow!! Once you workout with Cathe, there is just NO comparison!! Jari is almost robotic, she's so impersonal! I'm glad I'm not the only one. Jari seems like that gorgeous pair of impractical shoes that you thought you'd fall in love with, but it turns out, they were just not worth the money! hehe!:p

I like Jari's workouts.

But then I like a variety of instructors. I really enjoy having many options to choose from with my workouts. :)

I used Slim and Lean / Get Ripped to the Core for a while because they got the job done with minimual fuss/equipment. But I never felt the need to get more of her workouts.

Awww, that's a shame you bought all the workouts and can't use them.:( I wish I would have known you were looking for Insanity intensity. I could have told you that Jari's circuits are not like Insanity, but I don't know of many workouts that have the same level of intensity as Insanity.

My body always responds to Jari's super high rep training. I think it's because it's because it so different from Cathe's style. Switching things up for more muscle confusion. Her Ripped & Chiseled workout is very close to the 100 rep training. I'm using Tonique Method which uses super high reps for lower body, and my thighs and butt are shrinking fast.

I think the bicep track in R&C is something like 200+ reps.

I have and enjoy Jari's workouts, but I have to tune out a lot of the blather about 'burning carbs' (who cares if I'm buring carbs, I want to burn fat, LOL!) and her 'motivational speaker' chat.

Pam, I haven't done any of the 5 workouts I bought, so I'm still hoping it will be a good workout to work in occasionally, but I've GOT to ask...did anyone else notice how freakishly tall the women are in Extremely Ripped 1000? Seriously, I wouldn't normally think anything of it. But I felt like the only human in Avatar next to them. Like, half their height.

A couple years ago, when I started working out, I started with Jari and got a lot of definition. I have all her dvds, but always seem to reach for Ripped and Chiseled. Then I discovered Cathe and she took it to the next level. I go back to Jari sometimes on my light days. But I can see how going from Cathe to Jari would be a bit of a downgrade. :) Linda

I have become a fan of Jari, I love high rep low weight workouts. They really seem to work best for my body type.
I don't think you can equally compare Cathe to Jari, they use totally different workout methods, imo, and I really like Jari because she is not intimidating and I have no dread factor for her workouts like I do for some of Cathe's.

I do not use any instructor exclusively, variety is the spice in my life!:)

Okay, I think I'll give her another try on a lower-intensity day. I was just super ready yesterday for a butt-kicking workout! The Avatar comment was very funny, Jonezie!! I don't know if it is the camera angle that makes them look sooo extremely tall of if they are just that way in real life!!

Thanks for all of the feedback, ladies!

I did Ripped 1000 on Thursday and enjoyed it. I liked the change and cool cucumber attitude. One thing that I really like is how they all take turns with the modded versions of the exercises.

Jari has a soft spot for me because she is Canadian!

I always do Ripped 1000 the day after Ripped & Chiseled.
My week looked like this...
Monday R&C
Tuesday Ripped 1000
Wednesday- 60 minutes Cardio Coach
Thursday R&C
Friday Ripped 1000
Saturday- 60 minutes Cardio Coach.

Your thread made me feel like doing R&C this morning! I added in Tonique squat segment after R&C. My biceps and quads are fried!:D

Don't get me wrong, Cathe is my favorite instructor.:) Jari has a totally different lifting style, and I like to throw her in during the summer months when I'm shedding my winter bulk. Lifting heavy weights makes me too hungry, and I can't control my appetite like I can with high rep workouts..

I have to say that I agree with both sides. Variety is the spice of life, but Jari is not that spicy!!! LOL.

This reminds me of a part on her video, Ripped to the Core (title?) in the cool down section where she does a neck stretch. As she's stretching, she tells us to 'think of wonderful things' while her face is all serious and stern looking. LOL! It always cracks me up because she must have practiced that phrase many times, but forgot to get her face to match!

I think her videos are effective, but I will not buy anymore of them. I always have to force myself to do one of her videos, although I like the concept of them. I wish Cathe or Amy Bento would do a similar repetitive weight lifting video with great music --- ahh, perfection! I thought I was the only one who felt this way about Jari. Glad I'm not alone!

Rule Number One of doing a Jari Love workout: When she speaks, do not listen to the words! ;)

That's pretty much my rule for ALL exercise videos!

I am just not that interested in what any of the instructors have to say. It's all about the work out and how effective it is for me.

I like Jari's DVDs, but I get them from Netflix

Rule Number One of doing a Jari Love workout: When she speaks, do not listen to the words! ;)

Hilarious! And true. Jari definitely lacks Cathe's knowledge and charismatic personality, but like Fit44 and others my body responds to variety. Sometimes I need a break from high weight/low rep work. Jari's DVDs meet that need for me.

Oh, and even though I like Jari's DVDs, I don't own any and I don't think I will buy them because I just wouldn't use them enough to justify the purchase. I always get them from Netflix.

I don't think Jari's workouts are for a light day at all! Not if you are choosing the correct weight.

The best things about Jari's workouts besides being so darn effective, are that they are inexpensive ($8 or so?!!), and they are simple enough to turn her down and listen to something else while doing them.

I just wish they had a "silence and cues only" option like Beach Body has for folks who need less Tony!:)
