I'm rather late checking in today. Did I even check in yesterday? Don't remember. But today I had a 10K run planned + MM legs.
I wasn't sure whether to hop on the treadmill or hit the asphalt. As I changed into my running clothes I decided on my winter tights, so out I went (only 3C, BRRRRBBBRRRR). That wind was very frosty. As I started running and my hands were "freezing up" I realised I forgot my running gloves. Now I knew my hands would be warm after 12 minutes or so, but that's like forever ... Cause my calfs were bothering me yesterday, I decided an easy long run pace would have to do for today!
Anyways, picked my route, 5K out and then a U-turn and 5K back again. At some stretches I was protected from the wind and that was nice with a Spring feeling to it. As I came upon the dyke at about 4K, I realised that if I went back the way I came, I'd be battling that cold wind from my left instead of my right. So, once up on the dyke I turned left instead of going back, and ran along the dyke. They closed it off last Summer for a couple of months for maintenance and I hadn't been back since. But they did a nice job on the cycle pathe, smooth asphalt, flat and no more holes. They also put some extra big boulders in at the waters edge. As I ran there with the wind in my back, the sun in my face and the water rolling into shore, I was in my own personal day dream... Great running, great day, great life. I so left this earth!
Then I came upon the cross roads where I had to take a left and leave the dyke. It sort of made a U-turn and I suddenly had that icy wind in my face, waking me up to my own version of the twilight zone: I entered .... the "tree tunnel". A 2.5K stretch of cycle path totally overgrown by trees turning it into a tunnel with a never-ending effect. You never seem to get any closer to the other end. It's where I try to avoid looking up. I keep my eyes fixed on the road, just a couple of feet ahead of me. As I met up with a woman walking her dogs I looked how far I had to go, BIG mistake, I must have wandered of into a Stephen King book or something, I wasn't even half way yet. Somewhere up in the trees a bird (or other animal) was making these loud noises. Is it me, or are these trees talking to eachother? After what seemed like forever, the trees let me go and I was back in the real world, where cars sped by and a cyclist cursed at me for making him swerve around me. After another 10minutes, I ran up the bridge and finished right in the middle, walking home. I'd actually ran a 12K.
Still have to do MM-legs so off I am.
