Daily check-in 08/07/2005

Good morning ladies...

Wendy...I feel a barbell is definitely needed...especially if you up the weights for leg exercises...much easier to hold a 40 lb barbell than 2 20lb dumbbells...

Kali...I also about died reading your post!!! I mean I am a cardio junkie and all but WOW!...thanks for clearing it up...:)...I have read many debates on this forum about blasting fat on the thighs. Some feel excessive cardio doesn't do it. Ultimately you find what works best for you!

Carla...I think some people do get wacky during an emergency! my thoughts and prayers will be with you...

I am skipping my freestyle leg workout as tomorrow morning I will head up to Oregon for a beatiful 15K (9.3 mile) trail run at the Ashland Ski Park. I do this run about every year! So today I'll do one of the Coremax segments and shoulders, tris and chest. Have a great day...:)...Carole

hey ladies! happy friday!

Carole: enjoy Oregon! You sound excited!

Emily: you crack me up! i skip those lunges too. All lunges as a matter of fact. i will be standing there in the strength class on Sat. smiling at all of you when it is time for those:p

Laurie: have fun and please take pics. we went several years ago(but ours is in the fall i think)needless to say i drank lots of wine and got to ride an elephant! it was great!

yesterday i did MM and the challenge from SB. my ankle was bothering me too much to do any more cardio. i may take it easy on cardio for the weekend so i don't injure myself before the trip;-)

my new rykas came in yesterday right after i finished my cardio, so i haven't gotten to test their roclet capabilities yet}(

i got up this morning to discover that Bella has ruined half of my puzzle mat floor. I'm gonna kill herx( not really, but i was quite pissed! luckily i have extra packages and she will be in her pen at night from now on!! little vixen!

today i am going to do a stretchmax segment and HC chest and tris. does anyone know which stretch would help my lower back the most?

have a great weekend everyone!!!

Good morning,

This morning I did KPC.

Connie - IMAX2/CW or KPC/LG? That's a very, very tough decision! You won't regret either purchase. Heck, buy them both and save yourself the cost of shipping :)

Annette - very interesting kickboxing mish-mosh yesterday. You must be feeling it today!

Katie - you remind me of myself! I try to talk myself out of workouts all the time, yet somehow find myself doing them anyway. It must be an addiction. I didn't have a chance to try IMAX3 unpregnant. I like to think that I could have gotten through it unmodified, but I guess I'll never know. I *do* know that it's going to take me some time to get back to that level! But the challenge of improvement is half the fun. You're brave to lend out any Cathe dvd from your collection! I hope SB was a Blast for you today! Fun fun!

Wendy - great work in doing BC! Usually the workouts you dread the most are the ones that make you feel the best when you're done, n'est pas?

Debbie - I sincerely hope that Aiden is a baby, and not your DH LOL!!!!! Very cute!

Christina - good work doing LG with ankle weights. Those thigh/glute sweeps are brutal, aren't they?

Jane - wow! You must be very happy to have done so well with RS yesterday! Some of that choreography is pretty tricky! If you need pills for vertigo, then you would need an entire bottle to do a Christi Taylor workout. She spins every chance she gets (but always has background exercisers who keep things front-facing).

Laurie Mac - "Break a leg!" I hope opening night goes well!

Emily - keep working on those power lunges, and eventually you'll get them. I started by just doing a few at a time, then doing the scissors that Hope does, then doing a few more lunges, then some scissors, etc. Eventually I was able to do them all, although they have never felt "easy".

Jes - aren't you sore enough from MM yesterday? You're going to do a GymStyle workout today? Ouchie! Can you do me a favour and bring that little Canada backpack I sent you to the Cathe weekend? That way I feel that a little of me actually managed to go along :)

Have a good day, everyone!
Sandra

Morning ladies! Last night I decided to add some extra ab work to my day, so I did the abs from All Step. This morning was SB. I did it on a 6" step again instead of an 8". I can't really decide which one I like more. When I do it on the 8" I am really huffin and puffin and sweating like crazy, but when I do it on the 6" I'm not as winded and I can concentrate on the technique. I know technique is more important, but I don't want to sacrifice the amount of calories I've burned because I'm not getting my heart rate up as high.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Katie

Katie, we need someone who has a nifty HRM/calorie counter to do the workout twice, once on 6" and then on 8", to tell us whether there is a significant difference in calories burned. Jaaaaaaaaannnnnne???????? :) :) :) :)

I remember Cathe posting a veeeery long time ago that when she moved to using the 6" step she didn't lose any conditioning because she was able to jump better and control her technique better, as you mentioned. I used to use the 8" step for all my workouts, but a sore knee made me start using the 6". Once my knee got better, I started doing 1-2 workouts a week on the 8" step (to maintain that fitness level), with the rest on the 6" (to give my knees a break). My fitness levels maintained quite fine doing that, and I haven't had to take an "injury" break in 3 years. And as you said, my technique improved.

Hope this helps a bit,
Sandra

Thanks Sandra. I've thought about doing this as well since I tend to be having a problem with shin splints if I do too many hight impact step workouts too many days in a row. I have found that with the step lower it doesn't put such an impact on my shins and I don't have as much of a problem. So, I have only been using the 8" step when I do my 30 minute cardio session after my weight workouts. I just don't want it to affect my fitness level, as you said.

Katie

Hello again.

My work out is done. I did SJP and SB step minus the SB Challenge plus I did ME abs and I did both the SJP/SB & the ME stretches...I really need to start incorporating Stretch Max more...I also want to put Pilates back in the mix but how? I'm going to need to work out for 2 hours a few days a week to get it all in I think!?! I'll have to think about this one...

I'm getting a HRM very soon. When I do, I will do the SB test for you:) I do it on an 8" step, but I'll try on a 6" too and see what the difference is!

Sandra, yes it was an interesting workout yesterday and I only really feel it when I stretch a muscle group that got worked. My legs are a little sore.

Today I did PUB chest and back, then for my freestyle workout I did MIS' first 10 min. of the legwork, then did L&G side leg extensions and both calf raises segments, and for abs I did All Step and Leaner Legs abs for a total of about 62 min. of weight work. This is day 4 of legwork, and I can feel my legs really aching at times especially when I walk up and down our stairs,LOL!!

No cardio today, taking the day off from that plus with all the kickboxing I have done this week, my legs really feel it too with all the kicking.

Have a great day!!:7 :D

Good Afternoon Ladies,

I am late checking in, but I did KPC, and BC core section only. We had a lot of rain here and we had no electricity in my office this morning, so I didn't go.

As usualladies you rock! I see some great workouts, it is inspiring not mention that it keeps me on my toes.

Enjoy your weekend!

Hi everyone,

Once again I win the prize for last post in this thread! *blush* :p

Yesterday I did PLB pyramid down only + the floor work + 86 walking lunges. I was able to bang out 10 more walking lunges than last time. Whoohooo! :D

Today CTX upper + Body Fusion is on the schedule, but I'm feeling more like a cardio- only w/o. I'm thinking about giving Step Jam a try, or do all of Step Max.

Connie :D

Sandra... I have the HRM, just not SB nor an 8 inch step. I am being given one by my DIL when they get their things out of storage when their house is completed....just not sure at this point when that will be.

I am looking forward to doing workouts on an elevated step. Right now all I have is a studio size club step with one set of risers. I've actually been using my Firm Box recently since it has a bigger surface area.

Well on to the work out. I went to pick blackberries this afternoon and am just now getting to work out. I still don't know what I am going to do. I guess I'll go stare at my w/o's and hope something jumps out at me.

I did HCXtreme w/o #3. I've done the other two but not this one...WOW. They should call this HCSuicide.... Putting those KickMax Blasts right after you finish IMAX3 blast #10 is pure evil. What a workout, I feel great even though it is 9:15 p.m. I got in my leg w/o I wanted with those punishing leg conditioning drills off KickMax.

Here's the numbers....AvgHR 141 MaxHR 174 calories - 570

That was a burner..... 70 minute w/o.

I need to do abs but I think that'll have to wait until tomorrow.

Night all...

I did a late workout today. I just got done doing pyramid upper body. I always feel so strong when I get done doing that workout!
