Creatine

Help me out here, ladies! :D

My husband mixes this stuff into a drink.... looks like KoolAid and the first ingredient is sugar. Can't be good. What does creatine do? All over the tub it says muscle growth. Also says not to take if you've had a heart attack. His response? "I haven't had a heart attack so all's well". Um, no. Me thinks it's gonna give him one.

I guess what I'm looking for is reasons he SHOULDN'T drink this stuff.

I finally for him to quit drinking shakes with casein. Help me get him to quit taking creatine!

Thanks so much!

Hey lady!!

Are you referring to creatine alone or N.O. Explode (which my DH takes)? My DH takes the latter and I do NOT like the effects it has on him...he turns sorta angry and aggressive and I don't feel it is worth the extra pre-workout energy it gives him (also expensive as heck!). He used to take creatine in the army at age 19-20 ish. He was told by a drill sgt to no longer take it as it could cause a rage of emotions, aggressive behavior, etc.

Furthermore, it raises your cholesterol big time. HTH...it is all I know about it.

C ya!

Tricia, thanks so much! needless to say that freaked him out! me too!

Clarissa, He takes straight up creatine, not the NO Explode. Mike definitely isnt aggressive but the cholesterol thing was good for him to hear!

he said he would quit taking it! yay!

Your body needs the sugar to absorb the creatine. In very basic terms it allows more muscle work - lets you work longer/harder to get greater muscle work. Actually, in Tosca Reno's book the Eat Clean Diet, it's one of the supplements she highly recommends. It can be hard on the kidneys - does he drink a lot of water?

Ha Ha. IF he were going to continue to take it, tell him to up his H2O intake. Creatine IS found naturally in the body. I mentioned Tosca's book - and she has a general good discussion of it. My trainer does NOT like it as it "pumps up" the muscles too much, at least for women, in her opinion. There are a bunch of different theories on it, but if he's decided to shy away from it, no real need to look into them. Why was he taking it?

He takes it because he wants his muscles to be bigger. Funny thing is his muscles really are HUGE.....he just reads the fitness mags and is comparing himself to the sterroid pics.

I've got some progress pics on the computer of him.... I should post one... but he'd be soooo embarrassed!:p
